  I have no idea what could cause this but I recommend to update the audio driver.
  Download the latest driver from the Toshiba driver page.
  Then go to Device Manager and uninstall the old audio drivers.
  Then, go to downloaded new driver sound and install it.
  Restart the device and test the sound plays an MP3 for example

If you do not want to change the browser, you already have IE 8.0, so I see no reason to change, then close the window and have no other problems.
