vRA upgrade sequence

Hello

I plan for the upgrade of vRA 6.2.1 of the vCAC 6.0.1. I understand there is no way to upgrade directly but to vRA first then vRA 6.1 6.1 will be promoted to the vRA 6.2.1. I read the following article http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/search.do?cmd=displayKC & docType = kc & docTypeID = DT_KB_1_1 & externalId = 2109760 which has sequence support for vmware for its products, which says: -.

1.) vRA would be improved first of all then followed VCD of vCenter and vRO

However, I read an article not vmware on which the author has followed the following sequence: -.

Upgrade vShield Manager latest version

  1. Installation/update or configure vCenter Orchestrator to latest version
  2. Install the plugin NSX for vCenter Orchestrator (such as his need for POSSIBLE)
  3. Optional: vCenter Server Appliance upgrade to the latest version
  4. Optional: upgrade on ESXi hosts
  5. VCAC coffee device to 6.1 upgrade
  6. Upgrade the Database vCAC to 6.1 using the dbupgrade script
  7. Upgrade the IAAS vCAC to 6.1 Server

What is the best way to do this, please suggest.

Hello

I personally used the method of VMware and it worked perfectly fine for me. Just take your machines backups before the upgrade just in case something goes wrong (not that it did in mine)

    I'm upgrading from WorkStation 6.5.3 to 7.1 on a Dell 690 (dual quad-core).  Current host OS is Redhat WS4 (smp - 2.6.9 - 89.0.26.EL), 32-bit, running WorkStation 6.5.3 with Guest OS XP PRO SP3 (32 bit).

I will be upgrading the host 32-bit WS4 WS5 64-bit RedHat to RedHat.  I will then migrate the exisitng Guest XP/installation software for Windows 7 64 - bit (running on Workstation 7.1 64-bit), but I need to maintain existing access to my client for 32-bit XP, so I can continue working while checking out / debug Setup 64 bit comments (and maybe I need to keep installation archived/usable XP for a while).  I think my two options are:

    (1) is it correct to assume that 64-bit Worksation 7.1 will run a 32-bit client?

    (2) Alternately, the 32-bit Workstation 6.5.3 (and 32-bit client) will run on 64-bit RedHat WS5?

    Thank you.

    Hi Bruce,.

VMware Worksation 7.1 is able to run a 32-bit client (check compatibility guides to know exactly who is supported)

Manual Workstation 6.5, RedHat WS5 64-bit is supported as a host.

  • 6.1.4 NSX upgrade to 6.2.0: DLR fails to upgrade with DHCP relay message

Hey all, in the middle of an upgrade of non-prod to a greenfield 6.1.4 6.2. Did the Manager NSX, and follow-up of all controllers. Then after the VMware recommended upgrade sequence, I did the GSS. Then began the DLR. When you try to upgrade the DLR, I received an error message

The "Upgrade Version" operation failed for the entity with the following error message.

[DHCP] To enable DHCP Relay, DR instance must be created with a single connected LIF.

    NSX-Training2015-09-07 13_06_51.jpg

Also, the router now displays status in the NSX edges pane: "failed to create/update edgeAssist interface for edge edge-3.» 404 not found. »

    NSX-Training2015-09-07 15_03_09.jpg

So I tried erase the configuration of DHCP on the DLR with the button relay remove, no dice. Tried to redeploy, fail with the same message. Tried to force synchronization, changes in status to "impossible to force synchronization. NSX Edge edge-3 is in poor condition. Try the operation again. The DHCP configuration disappears, but the change seems never commit, because when I browse the bracing or routing section and browse to the DHCP relay page, the original configuration is still there. It is a simple DLR with no configured HA. I have attached the newspapers of DLR tech support in case there is any support curious people out there. Note, vCenter 6.0.0 2741530, ESXi 5.5 Patch 5 reissue 2718055.

He was just going to remove the DLR and re-create it since it's a lab, but if it wasn't a lab I just want to know why it's a failure.

After reading more carefully, I apparently missed a step in the upgrade (hosts). I suggest that whoever does the upgrade follows the upgrade guide in pubs located here: 6.2 NSX VMware vSphere Documentation Center

    • Manager of NSX upgrade to 6.2
    • Upgrade of the Cluster controller NSX to 6.2, check the status of cluster control
    • Upgrade the cluster hosts for NSX 6.2
    • 6.2 the NSX border upgrade
    • Guest Introspection to NSX 6.2 update
    • Remove the NSX data security and redeploy

So I tried a lot of things to work myself back from that. I tried to upgrade the hosts but that didn't fly, esx-vxlan has been blocked to version 5.5.0 - 0.0.2691051. To return to a viable State in the end I had to nuke basically the GSS, logical switches, DLR, TZ, manually uninstall the NSX vibs and unsubscribe manager the NSX to vCenter in the cluster take-off of the State of "uninstall." From there, re - install the 5.5.0 - esx-vxlan 0.0.2983935 (6.2) vibs on the cluster worked OK, and I rebuilt the gateway routing and dashboard. So read before making anywhere near prod. : )

  • An upgrade to Vcenter of 5.5upd2 to 5.5upd2e is easy

We have only 5 all current 5.5upd2 to run esxi hosts. Very basic maybe 20 guests, no HA.    We use the VCenter unit also running the same version.  My question is updated all these.   I see the UPDATE tab in the web interface of devices and it seems very easy.   Then risk I'm running this minor update. And what precautions should I take to ensure no problems, or a fallback position?   Because this is the device I know that it is one thing to chickens and eggs.   Just Flash it?   Clone or both.    Or am I worrying too much because the update is so minor (just 'e' version)?

Also.  I update the device correct first of all, before the hosts?

    Thank you

    HMorris

The upgrade sequence is first the vCenter, and then the hosts, but since this is a minor update, if you upgrade your hosts, first they will still work with your old vCenter.

Here's a KB on vCenter update: KB VMware: VMware vCenter Server Appliance 5.x update

Take a look at the note:

    Notes:

    • Before you start the update process, as a best practice, VMware recommends that turn you up or take a snapshot of the VMware vCenter Server Appliance virtual machine to facilitate recovery if need arise.
    • Make sure the clocks of all machines on the network of vSphere are synchronized. For more information, see the section network to synchronize the clocks on vSphere vSphere Upgrade Guide.
    • Make sure that all users and administrators are informed that all vCenter Server services are not available during the update process.
    • For monitoring the status of the update, see the /opt/vmware/var/log/vami/updatecli.log file.
    • The update process can take 90-120 minutes. Do not restart until the update is complete.
  • VMFS2 or VMFS3 - how to tell?

    All,

I inherited a VMS environment that has servers to 1.5, 2.5, 3.0 and 3.5 ESX and trying to get my arms around how bring back to 3.5. U3.  Some of the virtual machines residing on SAN FC, and others are on the local disks.  I see that the upgrade sequence is: VC, host Datastore (VMFS2 to VMFS3), VM, then Tools.

My questions are: how will I know if the filesystem is VMFS2 or VMFS3?  Command line?  Are there different versions of VMFS3 (i.e. making changes to the host have no impact on the data store)?  Also, any big pitfalls to watch out for?

  • 9.3.1 to 9.3.3 of the system

We intend to upgrade our system on several nodes to 9.3.3 9.3.1 patch level. When we installed 9.3.1 initially, we used manual deployment and have Oracle Application Server 10.1.3.1.

I went through the hsys9_install_start_here_933.pdf guide (updated: November 2010) chapters: System requirements and the upgrade sequence.
And also on individual READMe files of each product.

    Question:
    ======
    (1) anyone out there have also use Oracle Application Server 10.1.3.1 as a Web server?
    (2) the readme for the other modules (except schedule) do not have clear instructions on the question of whether we should redeploy existing war/ear files after upgrading to 9.3.3. I only started to apply the 9.3.3 Group patches yet but I was wondering if it is necessary to transfer or make adjustments when we have OAS 10.1.3.1 in use.
    (3) I know there are sections known issues in each of the individual product readme. Does anyone have problems other than those mentioned in the README.txt file. I will share my experience after the upgrade is performed in this post, if we encounter on our environment.

Thank you for your time of reading this post. Any suggestion is appreciated.

Hyperiondba, have you ever configured Hyperion? Never deployed any java application? You have unpacked the fix files? You haven't seen these ear and war files? This document, I pasted earlier and apparently you read is very clear and fast. If you want to ask your question more specifically and directly (ie. How to deploy or configure Hyperion) can do. Vague questions and inquisitorial comments would not help I guess.
    See you soon,.

  • vRA 6.2.3 Commons component catalog uninstall before upgrading to vRA 7

    Hello

a sine qua non for the upgrade to vRA 7 is uninstalling the catalogue of common components. In the documentation is written:

"information on how to uninstall, install, and update the catalogue of common components, see the documentation for common components catalog."

I could not find that the documentation when I searched on the web at - it someone now where? When I searched for common components catalogue I found only a few explanations which belongs in the foundations and the manual concept but nothing that explains how to uninstall them. I actually tried to upgrade without uninstalling then because I couldn't find any hint how do - in vain the upgrade then of course when it came to such amenities that AFAIK are part of common components catalog. That's when you run Setup of IaaS.

    Thank you and best regards

    Jens

    Jens,

Catalogue of common components belongs and is used by VMware Professional Services, so if you have not deployed your current environment by a commitment of PSO you have probably not installed the CCC.  If you have installed and takes advantage of components in your current deployment, you must contact PSO directly or through your TAM and request a copy of the CCC that corresponds to the version of vRA that you migrate as each version of vRA has a matching version of CCC.

If you have installed the CCC today, it appears in Add/Remove programs on the servers that host specific components of IaaS (assuming that you have a distributed deployment):

    • Model Manager
    • Each host providing the web service and that contains the data of the model Manager
    • Server Manager

You simply run the uninstall after stopping all services of vRA.

    Hello!

After the update for Premiere Pro 2015.3 (of 2015.2), I can't add video files on my calendar, the only thing I can add to the timeline is the audio stream of the video.

  • dv5-1010us upgrade to Windows 7 sequence issue

I have a laptop dv5-1010us under Vista Home Premium. I bought Windows 7 Professional and want to upgrade. My question is of two parts: (1) should I upgrade all the drivers available for Windows 7 compatible versions before upgrading the operating system or after? and (2) is there a HP Web site that shows all the drivers that must be updated for my laptop model and allows me to download?

    32-bit Windows drivers:

  • Single Sign-On sequence 5.1 to 5.5 upgrade (multisite mode and bound)

    Hello

I have trying to find SSO upgrade documentation that describes the options I have to choose for the following upgrade scenario:

    Before the upgrade to 5.5:

    • 2 x 5.1 vCentre servers (Windows 2K8R2) along with related modes.
    • Each vCentre has its own local SSO server that runs on the same server vCentre. Both have the same deployment ID.

My understanding of what the upgrade for authentication UNIQUE and related modes cannot function after update 5.5 should go as follows (obviously related modes has been removed before the upgrade):

    1. On the first SSO server. Switch from 5.1 to 5.5 using the MULTISITE option. (Web Client follow-up, inventory Service & Server vCentre).
    2. On the 2nd Server SSO. Switch from 5.1 to 5.5 using the MULTISITE option. (Web Client follow-up, inventory Service & Server vCentre).

The problem is the first SSO server when I select MULTISITE option on the next page, I get the details of the host partner and password I was do one of the following errors:

    1. Could not get the server certificate, or
    2. Unable to get the host name

And cannot proceed with the upgrade. The only option that works is the AUTONOMOUS vCENTRE SSO SERVER option which I think related modes don't work after upgrade.

Any help pointing me to a document that stresses the good options if bound mode is preserved after upgrade would be great.

    See you soon

You use the 2 vCenter 5.5 Update Setup or an older version? Because there are a few changes on the descriptions of the modes of deployments between vCenter 5.5 GA/starting at day 1 and 5.5 Update 2, take a look:

The deployment modes available for vCenter Single Sign-On are:

    For 5.5GA for vSphere vSphere 5.5 Update 1 b:

    • vCenter Single Sign-On for your first server vCenter Server
    • vCenter Single Sign-On for an additional vCenter Server into an existing site (formerly Cluster HA)
    • vCenter Single Sign-On for an additional vCenter server with a new site (formerly Multisite)

For vSphere 5.5 Update 2 and beyond:

    • SSO Server vCenter standalone
    • High availability
    • Multisite

For your first vCenter, you must select "vCenter Standalone single authentication server ' and the second 'Multisite' option, see this note:

Multisite | vSphere 5.5 Update 2 and beyond

This option installs a vCenter Single Sign-On additional server in a new site of logic. Single Sign-On Server vCenter are created using this option, they will all be members of the same domain of authentication vSphere.local. As an improvement on vSphere 5.1, provided Single Sign-On (policy, users of the solution/application, sources of identity) are now automatically replicated between each vCenter Server Single Sign-On in the same field of authentication vSphere.local 30 seconds. This mode should be used after the first Single Sign-On Server vCenter is deployed using the vCenter Single Sign-On for your first server vCenter Server or stand-alone vCenter Server SSO option, depending on your version of version 5.5 of vSphere .

  • Why is not possible to upgrade to Sierra?

My original Mac Pro OS was Mavericks or Mountain Lion.  Mac Pro is end of 2013 current version, 12 GB memory, Yosemite (10.10.5) with Windows XP (SP3) within the 10 version of Parallels.  At Yosemite's original operating system upgrade went well.  A year earlier, when you try to upgrade to El Capitan, download and installation is complete but resulting Mac Pro has been completely non-functional.  Technical assistance from Apple then able to help access Time Machine and restore it on a working machine.  Apple technology has theorized that the problem may have been caused by the Norton Antivirus program running in the Apple environment (which was then deleted).  Two days ago tried to upgrade OS Yosemite Sierra.  Similar result as we have.  Power on the Mac Pro seems to be running with Sierra.  In configuration iCloud and other applications, the environment has hung up and the machine had to be restarted.  Turned on, the Apple logo appears along with the sound chime.  Nothing else.  Same sequence repeated constantly.  Apple support was able to help (with some difficulty - keyboard randomly not responding) to get pressure on power-up/alt keys to work and generate a recovery screen.  Backup Recovery Time machine produces a work, an original machine of Yosemite.  Question - what needs to be done to have a Mac Pro expandable to Sierra?

First of all, you must make sure that all applications and hardware drivers are

up-to-date and compatible with macOS Sierra.

If you run any Antivirus application, applications assistance, speed up the apps, haxies,

cleaner for apps, or anything else that claims to improve performance, remove them

    by directions of app developers.

If you do, download and run Etrecheck (http://www.etrecheck.com/).  It's a

application developed by one of the contributors here and can give us additional info

about what can be potential problems.

In addition, if you encounter any problems at all now, no matter the size, they get usually
