Vs FAT FAT32

I need to format a USB drive in FAT32. apparently other versions of FAT are not going to work for that particular thing. However, utility disk in El Capitan (10.11.4) only gives options of FAT or ExFAT. Is the FAT that there are in fact listed FAT32?

Yes

Difference between material FAT & FAT32?

First, note that there are three varieties of FAT: FAT12, FAT16, and
FAT32. Many people call just FAT16 FAT, because before that FAT32 is out.
FAT16 is the only variety used for hard drives, so just
    The FAT was not enough.

FAT12 (hardly any more used) had a maximum volume size of 12 MB.
It has been used almost exclusively for floppy disks.

FAT16 was used on hard disks (or partitions) up to 4 GB and had a
cluster size which varied from 2 KB to 64 KB, depending on the size of
the partition. It serves almost never again, because almost nobody does
a as small as 4 GB partitions.

FAT32 FAT16 succeeded and has a maximum drive size of 2 TB. His
maximum file size is 4 GB, which explains why you can't copy a file of 5 GB to
it. its cluster size is 4 KB up to an 8 GB partition. Beyond 8 GB the
cluster size develops up to 32 KB.
NTFS, that's what almost everyone should use on their hard drives
today. Its maximum volume size is 2 ^ ^ 64-1 and its maximum file size
16 × 1024 is ^ ^ 6 bytes (much more than the bigger hard drive available
today). Cluster size is 4 KB, regardless of the size of the volume.

I have a disk full of files, and it is in the FAT32 file system. As I can't copy large files (5 GB +) in this player, I intend to fix this by changing the file systems.

    Good! You should.

Apparently, it is not possible to do it without formatting.

It's not correct. To convert to NTFS, use you the CONVERT
command. But first read http://www.aumha.org/a/ntfscvt.htm , because
There is an important question about the size of cluster that is not obvious.

Also note that conversion is an important step, touching everything on your
drive. When you take a big step, no matter how unlikely it is
always possible that something can go wrong. For this reason, there
careful to make sure that you have a backup of everything you can not afford to

My current file system is FAT32. My XP is installed on the C drive. Now, I've heard that NTFS is better than FAT32. So I intend to change my file system during my next XP Reinstall. Issues related to the:

2 is really better than FAT32 in NTFS performance?

  • Formatting an external hard drive to FAT32 using vista

    Hello

I own an Xbox 360 and a Windows Vista-based computer.  I wanted to store music and movies on an external hard drive and connect it to my Xbox 360 so I can make use for more then just a game.  I first tried this using a 2 GB USB key and it worked better then I could have hoped.  However, given that 2 GB does not go very far, I went out and bought a FreeAgent 1.5 TB drive external hard.  I can use it in Vista and works very well, but it does not recognize the Xbox 360.  I read in a forum that the 360 requires the external hard drive to FAT32, but Vista cannot format the disc in all except exFAT and NTFS.  How can I get the external drive in a format that can recognize the Xbox?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello, Durandal95

Please use the Forum for answers.

You can format a drive using the FAT, FAT32, exFAT and NTFS filesystems using the format command-line tool.

WARNING: Formatting your drive will completely erase it, exercise caution when you use the format features.

To do this, go to start, all programs, accessories, click with the right button on command prompt and choose Run as administrator. In the command prompt window, type the following command and press ENTER: format X: / FS: FAT32 / q
Note: Replace X: the good reader.

You can find help on the XBOX on both, the help and the community pages:

  • FAT 32 to NTFS

I have an external hard drive in FAT 32 format. Is there a way to convert to NTFS?  I can do this without losing any data, or what I need to format and start all over again? I use it as a backup drive so everything is on the original disc. but it would be a pain all copy again.

  • Utility disk and MS DOS

One of my friends asked me to try to format a 8 TB new drive he bought. He needs to FAT32 for his playstation and I think it is either running leopard or snow leopard. I've got El capitan.

    What he did:

Initially the ability to format with MS-DOS was dimmed, he partitioned the drive into partitions of 7.9 TB and 0.1 and the ability to format to MS DOS became available, he went ahead and disk utility reported that have successfully completed. I suspect that he does not check readers reported sizes in the finder at this stage, but when he turned on his PC that reported the largest partition 1.68 TB.

It has reconnected to the Mac and re-partioned into partitions of 2 x 4TB with much the same result.

    What I did:

When I plugged the drive, Get info reported volumes 2 x 1.8 TB but made each utility disk volume count volumes of 2 x 4TB with 2.2 TB of space in use. I then wiped the drive and created a 8TB Mac OS volume that has been reported correctly in the finder and in disk utility. The ability to format in the MS-DOS was available on my Mac even if it was divided into a single volume of 8 TB, I am gone ahead and utility disk has reported formatting was successful but get info reported a single figure of 1.8 to.

I tried since a 7.8/divided 0.2 TB and ended with only a volume of 1.2 to get info and 6.6 TB of space used of the CT 7.8 according to disk utility.

The thing is every book that I try again with MS DOS I seem to get a smaller usable volume.

I'm not familiar with the help of MS-DOS formatted, but we had problems when it restructured a 2 GB usb key that we sometimes in the past, although I suspect that he reformatted his PC. So I don't know if there is a problem with a 8 TB disk, disk utility or even its PC.

FWIW, Microsoft has imposed a limit of 32 GB for FAT/FAT32 partitions, but it is possible to create partitions of 2 TB. I suspect that's what you see.

You should be able to create 4 partitions of 2 TB ExFAT.

  • BDX4350KB Wifi adapter and firmware upgrade doesn't work do not

It is a sequel to my earlier question about if the WLM-20U2 Wifi adapter will work in my blu - ray player.

After buying the adapter I plugged it and a message 'not supported', if I tried to connect wireless it says there was no an adapter connected.

So I assumed that this necessary upgrade, so I formatted a 1 Gb USB drive with the FAT file system, downloaded the file level (version 39 http://www.dl.toshiba.com/player/NA/GB/EN/BDX4350KB.html) and copied the file .bin on the USB.

When I plugged into the player and said to check the disk for a file to update it tells me that "frontend file is not found"... There was only one file to download, and it wasn't in a folder so I guess I'm supposed to just copy that file on the USB drive.

I checked the USB port with a memory stick with photos on and it works fine.

How to get the upgrade to work in the hope that it will enable the wifi adapter to work?

There are known limitations when connecting TVs USB hard drives:
-HDD format is one of them: FAT/FAT32 should work, NFTS (depending on model) probably not
-in the manual for this model, only the USB keys are hard disks mentioned, none (which require an external power supply).
USB drives are USB - bus-powered and therefore does not usually cause trouble, while external power supply used by hard drives can lead to problems, this device is not recognized.

In short: there is not that you can do, in addition to changing the USB device. You can try with the FAT32 format first, but with some probability that also won't work, except for the fact that FAT32 is supported only up to a certain size of drive.

  • I can't partition my microSC card.

Hello. I would like to define three partitions on my microSD with sizes de.3,.3 and 7.3 GB. The partition utility gives this error after using these size settings. I'm doing something wrong? The size of the partition is too small for the file type? I use FAT (fat32), I think. Partitioning works with the same default sizes. The micro sd card I have is 8 GB.

Open the Terminal and run the following command

    diskutil partitiondisk/dev/disk2 3 MBR - MS-DOS P1 P2 of ms - dos M 0.3 0.3 M ms - dos P3 R

Please check that the card SDXC has/dev/disk2 as disk identifier. Change it accordingly otherwise.

P1, P2, P3 are the names of the partitions. They must be capitalized.

  • FORMAT THE HARD DRIVE

    Hello

I inserted an SD card in my Clip of Sasa 8 GB + and I wanted to format in the first place, but unfortunately, I formatted the disk bad, that the two men were mounted as the disks on my desk (I use OS x).

You can imagine how happy I am, that the 8 GB were almost entirely filled with music, but wait this is the fun part. The worst cause is what brings me here:

Now when I connect the SANSA CLIP to my computer, the drive seems mounted and totally empty (there is no more all these folders I used to see when I was exploring my Clip +) which seems quite normal since I (stupid me) FORMATTED the drive...

And when I try to start the clip + I get this error message:

    FAT is corrupted.

    Please login

    device to PC and

(I can't read the rest of this error message)

I tried to update the firmware, but it doesn't do anything (except that now I have this bootrom in the root folder...)

And when connected to a computer, the logo lights up and indicates the status "connected." But as soon as I disconnect the device it gives me this error.

I guess I need to copy in the root folder all the files that came with the Sansa when I first get.

Question: anyone could copy me this file system, so I can start my machine again?

And tell me if I need to format again before you copy these files (and what format: FAT, FAT32, something else?)

Thank you in advance everyone. I would really appreciate the help.

No, you can delete them. The firmware is not actually use any part of the user of available flash memory, it simply stores its database it (which is deleted and rebuilt on each USB insert in all cases). Looks like you have not partitioned/formatted the drive correctly. • Is it safe to buy SanDisk Ultra adapt USB 3.0 flash drive in all sizes for their part start?

    Hello

I just read your incompatible experiences regarding the ability to boot from different readers of Sandsisk.

To be more precise, is it safe to buy the discs above (North American model numbers):

    SDCZ43 - 016G - A46 - 16 GB

    SDCZ43 - 032G - A46 - 32 GB

    SDCZ43 - 064G - A46 - 64 GB

    SDCZ43 - 128G - A46 - 128 GB

at the start of one of them.

Under Windowss, you can use FAT, FAT32 for sizes 32GB or less, NTFS for 64 GB or more. Ok.

I've always wondered how to do a 64GB or more large disk bootable under Linux or Mac OS X?

    Thanks for your clarification!

SanDisk did not burst as the hard drives over the years.  Is there the sellers offering some of the old stock, no doubt.  There sellers of counterfeit discs, certainly.  Are there readers used sellers, certainly. Are there vendors selling readers and not allowing them to return if the buyer is unhappy, certainly.

So, rather than worry about the model numbers, worry to buy from a reliable source, so if you have a problem you can return. Quickly & easily.  New SanDisk flash drives are all seen as removable Windows.   And Easy2Boot will make them bootable., even on the new UEFI systems, which should be more a problem starting model guarantees.

When I insert the card into the card reader on my computer (which was the same computer and the same card reader), it shows that 1 GB of the card is full, but when I check the properties of the map on my PC it shows 4 GB...

I have already formatted (FAT32) and tried the same results, but it... It gets only 1 GB of photos...

    Best regards...

Here's something you can try to test the map. put it in the computer and format it. Make sure that the map shows the amount of space available. This should be 3.75 GB of something similar. If it's showing corectly then use computer data and copy of the card. Fill the card completely full. Then look at the properties and see if the card can be filled to capacity.
