• Impossible to clone virtual machines to VSAN datastore

  Hi all

  Whenever we try to clone a virtual machine using vCenter vSAN not store data to the vSAN data store fails with the following error.

  File /vmfs/volumes/540024e7-2d8bb59e-0bef-40a8f0305c2c/blr7-dhcp-1/***.vmdk not found.

  It is a cluster of vSAN 3 node with 1 * 2 SSD * magnetic disk by the configuration of the node.

  ! 0 gig uplink connected to vDS with one vlan separate tag group of ports (Distributed Switch). Multicast IGMP snooping is enabled on the VIRTUAL LAN that is used for the VTEP.

  Storage strategy is: tolerate 1, band 3, 70% cache read

  The number of disks is harder once you start adding bandwidth, because you also have to take into components witness account.

  Each band will require a disc, and you increase FTT, you will need to double the number of disks you want to mirror any of the components score. And then, of course, welcome the witnesses.

  With VSAN a disc is an object. An object exists several components. A component is located on a disk. However, VSAN can have 1 VMDK which is an object consisting of several components. These components can cross physical disks, disk groups, and hosts even if necessary. So there is a lot of flexibility.

• Disk groups are not visible cluster. vSAN datastore exists. 2 guests (on 8) cluster do not see the vSAN data store. Their storage is not recognized.

  Do not know how even tear it down and rebuild it if the disk groups are not visible. The discs are in good health on each host storage adapters.

  Currently the latest version of vCenter 5.5. Hosts running 5.5 build 2068190

  Just built. Happy to demolish and rebuild. Just do not know why it is not visible on the two hosts and the disk groups are only recognized 3 guests when more are contributing. Also strange that I can't get the disk groups to fill in vCenter. I tried two different browsers (chrome and IE).

  I have now works.

  All the identical 5.5 relies on ESXi hosts. All hosts are homogeneous CPU/sum of the prospects for disk controller / installed RAM/storage.

  I have work. I had to manually destroy all traces of the vSAN on each single to help host node:

  (1) put the hosts in maintenance mode and remove the cluster. I was unable to disable vSAN in the cluster, I made on each node host (manually via the CLI below) then disconnected web client vCenter and return to finally refresh the ability to disable on the cluster.

  esxcli vsan cluster get - to check the status of each host.

  esxcli vsan cluster drop - the vSAN cluster host.

  storage of vsan esxcli list - view records in the individual host group

  esxcli vsan storage remove-d naa.id_of_magnetic_disks_here - to remove each of the disks in the disk group (you can ignore this using the following command to remove the SSD only falling each disc in this host group).

  esxcli vsan storage remove s naa.id_of_solid_state_disks_here - this is the SSD and all the magnetic disks in a given disk group.

  After that, I was able to manually add hosts to the cluster, leave maintenance mode and configure the disk groups. Aggregated data of the vSAN data store is correct now, and everything is functional.

  Another question for those of you who still read... How to configure such as the VM storage strategy that migrates towards (or inspired) the vSAN data store will immediately resume the default storage policy, I built for VSANs?

  I built my vSAN6 lab and added the ESXi hosts nested to it.  the drives are displayed as Flash (SSD active and active flash capcacity) but when I add them to the cluster of vSAN and try to create groups of disks appear as disk HARD ordinary (screenshots)

  Since the beginning of the vsan sofware, we introduced the diskgroup concept

  where a diskgroup consists of layers of flash and ability. level Flash was SSD and ability level HARD drive in the case of the hybrid

  To prevent that coherent and simpler for all the flash, we have introduced the concept of additional promotion SSD at the level of the ability. but still the initial requirement to have 1 SSD assigned for the flash layer is a must

  So what you have to do in your case is

  keep 1 SSD for the layer flash without their promotion to the level of ability. You can delete the rule ATAS

  use esxcli vsan storage tag to remove the capacityFlash for one of the SSD drive (as shown in the connection of cormac)

  that will fix your configuration

  What I believe "groups of hybrid mix discs and All-Flash is not a good practice" because we cannot control the vm to the location of data means data should go in such or such group of disks is not possible.   Hi all

  When I build a vSAN test and no additional parameters (only enable HA and DRS), when I create a virtual machine, then I check vsan datastore, I find an extra folder, its name as "20717053-ac16-85d5-e146-00101806080d", and check the content, the content is my VM... I know vSAN might create duplicate a VM, but I have not done any policy or setting.

  If additional VM file is automatically generated and can not turn off generate it?

  We will deploy a cluster with hybrid and a cluster with all the Flash under the same vCenter.

  Guests contribute by using the network of 10 gbe, hybrid hosts connect to 10 gbe (A logic) and the flash to 10 gbe guests too (logic B). Switch with logic a logical connection b with 1 gbe (between switch)

  Blog I found, when to use not contribute hosts, make sure that the we even create a vmkernel who could connect to vSAN.

  But for my scenario above, a vmkernel would be used for hosts contribute and also not contribute hosts (ie: when you use the vsan datastore in hybrid hosts flash)

  Any advice for us, when we want to use the flash in the hosts hybrid or hybrid in welcoming all the flash? (vice versa)

  The goal is to create the storage layer (hybrid and all the flash)

  Hybrid and all cluster flash will be more that 4 welcomes everyone.

  I have a cluster HA (5.5) newly created using vSAN as a data store unique. HA cluster is configured with das.ignoreInsufficientHbDatastore, but when I select vSAN datastore in the favorite heartbeat datastore, I get the following error:

  The userHeartbeatDs setting is not valid for the cluster NOMCLUSTER

  Google could not find a single post/page mentioning this error.

  Any help would be much appreciated!

• SAN virtual Licensing

  Following the update of my vCenter to 5.5.0 U1, I tried to move the hosts of the updated beta version build (1439689) GA (1623099) and the first host that comes out of the upgrade has been suspended to this 'free charges successfully' screen for hours. I was able to perform a recovery of the host and to restore the Beta Refresh version.

  

  I think that this may be due to the fact that my Virtual SAN beta key has expired. So it would seem that if your license expires, you can not add guests, upgrading of the hosts, or manage existing storage strategies (following an upgrade to vCenter). So the moral of this story is to get a valid key. Which brings me to the next point. I just signed up for the evaluation of virtual SAN so that I can at least continue to work in the short term in my lab. When I look at the trial for Virtual SAN, it says there is no required license key. I believe that you must in fact a key valid for function of virtual SAN, so, how am I supposed to evaluate the GA version without a key?

  Seems that you can not upgrade vcenter 5.5 5.5u1 when you plan to use VSANs with it after the upgrade.

  But maybe I got it wrong. Am I wrong? Someone please clarify that? You * really * need to do a new installation of vcenter 5.5u1 use VSANs?

  Since vSAN 6.0 support max 1 datastore by cluster and the maximum volume size for VMFS is 64 to.

  It means to 64 is the maximum value for a single vSAN cluster?

  No - of course not.

  The VSAN data store is not VMFS or NFS. It is an object store.

  The maximum rates are discussed in several documents VSAN, but is an approximate calculation for the maximum size (number of hosts x number of capacity x size of the device capacity)

  Yes, you can have vSAN accommodation your VMs on the vSAN and protected site used as the data store target for vSphere replication to the site of DR. You can also use the data store vSAN on DR site as a placeholder data store, however in this case, as Mr. Khalsa remarked "you want to make sure that your replicas are placed in folders and your placeholders in a different folder."

  You can also use another store of data shared on the site of DR spaces reserved, assuming you have a. This could facilitate the configuration and management, but that could be associated with an additional cost.

  Placeholder updated VMs on the data store local / non-shared, if my memory serves me right, would result in VMs started only on host (s) who can see the placeholders when you press the red button. Normally it is therefore proposed to put placeholder VMs on the data store shared.
