vSphere 4.1u1

I am looking for a RAID card with 4 external SFF-8088 which is certified for vSphere 4.1u1. I have had no luck the research so far and I was wondering if anyone has found such a card.

Thank you

I would say to do the reverse - identify cards with 4 USB ports and see if they are on the list - HCL

  • Will vcloud Director 5.5 compatible with vsphere 5.1U1?

    Hey,.

We vSphere 5.1U1 running in production and we look at vCloud Director 5.5 for the deployment. But VMware does not have a virtual Director 5.1 appliance and we do not want to buy a server, Redhat enterprise server (we could upgrade vSphere 5.1u1 soon, but due the Veem, we cannot now). Since VMware provides the virtual appliance for vCloud Director 5.5, so I got this question that I can't answer in VMware documents:

Will vCloud Director 5.5 compatible with vSphere 5.1U1?

    Thank you

Yes vCloud Director 5.5 is compatible with vSphere 5.1U1.

  • vSphere 4.1u1 ESXi upgrade

Hi all, I need to upgrade farm vi3 to vsphere, ESXi 4.1u1.

I'll install a new virtual centre, so I migrate not old.

My problem is to migrate without downtime (except of course for VMware tools and VTM who is scheduled later for a few nights after the full migration of vSphere).

In my mind that I would consider to disable HA and DRS on vi3 actual cluster, then disconnect and remove the old virtual hosts.

Once done I would connect servers ESX vi3 on new virtual centre 4.1, then I'll start ESXi4.1u1 new host moving VMs before installation in order to keep their and running.

Is this possible? Is there a warning or risk?

    Thanks in advance. Massimo.

Without interruption of service, ok, you have more of a host with resource to maintain the virtual computers running DRS and HA? or with media do VMotion?

    You are essentially:

    1 - update virtual center

    2 evacuate 1 host

3 - put in maintenance mode

4 make a new installation on that server

    5. set up and add to vcenter

  • Rename the vMotion Portgroup? (vSphere 4.1u1)

    Hello

Before moving to ESXi, we had the VMkernel - also called "VMKernel" vMotion portgroup.

When we went from the hosts one by one, we kept the name of portgroup.

But as it is now only used for vMotion, we would like to rename it accordingly.

    Is this possible without problems?

(I realize that there will be no vMotion while we are in the process of name change)

According to this guy, it is nescesarry to delete and recreate vMotion on all hosts trade?

    http://emeirell.blogspot.com/2011/08/drsvmotion-sudently-stops-working.html

But of course, it would be easier to simply rename.

    Best regards

    Martin

    Hi Martin,

never happen to me, I don't have that operation of hundreds times on version 4, 4.1 and 4.1U1 4.0.3

what you can do is write down the current configuration in case of problems and vMotion portgroup simply recreate vMotion exchanges on the hosts

  • No guest for CentOS 5.6 in vSphere 4.1u1 OS customization

    Hello

I created a basic (bare BONES, VMware tools) model for the deployment of CentOS 5.6 VMs, but when I try to deploy from it, I get:

Customization of the guest operating system "centos64Guest" is not supported in this configuration...

Followed by something on LVM is supported only on these latest ESX and tools.

I have the newest ESXi available and there is no LVM in the virtual machine.

When I convert the model of a virtual machine and run it, VMware tools show a status of "OK", so I don't think that the problem is related to that.

    Kind regards

I spend my template CentOS 5.5 to 5.6 a few days ago and the deployment jobs.

But in my case, I have a 32-bit version and the OS type in the model is RedHat 5 (when the VM run it show Centos 4/5).

  • vFoglight storage is extremely slow!

    Hello

I'm under vFogStorage (v 1.6) on a virtual machine (vSphere 4.1U1) with 2 vCPU, 6 GB of RAM and 4 vDisk (on a Netapp array with 17x15K SAS drives). The virtual machine itself works well, but vFogStorage is extremely slow and unresponsive for moments.

I tried using the console installed on the server of vFogStorage and also with the help of the office of the administration remotely. In both cases, the console freezes randomly and after a while, he returned to answer, but when using the desktop of remote administration that it is virtually unusable as frost periods are larger than on the local server.

It is possible to set the system to speed it up?

vFoglight storage has a fix that resolves this problem.  This problem has been taken offline and the problem has been identified.

Version 1.6.1 will be this "patch" included and has solved several problems of performance.

I usually clean install when upgrading of ESXi. This time I want to do with Update Manager. I imported iso "VMware-ESXi-5.1.0-Update1-1065491-HP-5.50.26.iso" custom HP Update Manager. And analysis of the host, he founded the iso upgrade. My question is I want to keep my config of switch standart. And second concern, upgrades of the driver should be made. That's why I downloaded iso custom HP. Do with the Update Manager, it'll he keep the config of switch standard or I have to do the config after upgrade? If I don't know, I will be installaation CD by selecting upgrade with preservation VMFS datastore.

    Thank you

I've updated our HP ESXi servers to vSphere 5.1U1 with vSphere Update Manager with no problems. Switching virtual and standard configurations have been preserved. The drivers have been updated.

  • Troubleshooting the political power (power off)

    Hey all,.

I have a related cloning pool.  I can't get the power remote desktop policy to work.  I want Virtual Machines off when not in service.  For testing purposes, I put the number of desktops online spare to zero.  Then I logged on all virtual machines, and they are still running.  I waited for 15 minutes to see if there was a closing delay built in, but they are still running.  I checked the logs in vCenter and the view connection server, but I don't see any errors or trying to stop the virtual machine.  I also tried to restart the view connection Server Service.

My environment is: see 4.6, vSphere 4.1u1, VM of Windows Vista SP1.

    Thanks for troubleshooting ideas.

  • vSphere 4.0U2 to 4.1U1 with the SSL certificate has expired?

I want to upgrade our vSphere vCenter server and ESXi 4.0 4.1 U1 U2 hosts, but my vCenter SSL cert has expired.  If this cert has expired a negative impact on the upgrade?  Will be the upgrade of mint a cert again for me?

If the cert has expired will not harm the upgrade, in order to obtain a new certificate in place, it would be better to do it now or wait until I'm in 4.1 U1?  I expect to use free signed certificates.  Thank you.

the expired cert will not affect the upgrade. It is advisable to do the update/change certs after that you are on 4.1U1.

    Hi people:

I tried to update the server vcenter 5 hardware. 1 b to 5.1u1, and the update will fail.  The log (/ opt/vmware/var/log/vami/updatecli.log) is full of errors like the one following that simply keep repeating:

I tried to do the update as well via a Web download and downloading the iso file and applying from there.  Same result both times.  Had to go back to the snapshot before the upgrade.   Anyone has any success applied this update?

Currently, I'm using ESXi 4.0u1, so I think I should use vSphere CLI 4.0.

Or I try to update to ESXi 4.1u1, so I think I should use vSphere 4.1 CLI.

    Just use vSphere 4.1 CLI

It is backward compatible with the older versions of ESX

  • VSphere Edition 5 free

Estamos planteandonos fornuis UN conjunto of 4 blades as tenemos instalados con version Vsphere ESXi Free Edition 4.1U1 a Vsphere 5.

ESTOS tienen blades 4 processors (4 Sockets). He read the version 5 of vsphere en su edición free limited has 2 Sockets (2 processors).

¿Esto significant por tanto as the aforementioned los otros back potencia perderiamos're como if el servidor solo had 2 cards?

    Gracias

    Hola,

free del vSphere version 5 (o como lo llama Vmware, vSphere hypervisor 5) no tiene una limitacion don't Sockets fisicos (y menos of hearts) por servidor.

What if tiene're una limitacion 32 GB of RAM (y vRAM) por servidor.

Tiendo than each of the esos blades more than 32 GB of RAM cada uno tiene...

If quereis usar (con Vmware) esos mas 32 GB in each of the esos 4 blades, deberias buy 16 (por una decision) licenses como minimo standard. Only bones would use 32 GB vRAM por socket (128 GB vRAM por servidor).

Are alguna Combinaciones mas barata a nivel of license, pero implicaria no usar todos esos 4 blades y half of CPU.

Espero acercado aclarado you duda :-)

  • Upgrade to ESXi 4.1U1 to 5.0 - lots of questions

    Hello

I have a standalone ESXi system 4.1U1 (Build 433742) (free license) which works really well.

Material: DEL PE2900 server with RAID DELL PERC5i controller and two RAID 1 arrays defined.

    Discs: 4x256GB = > 2 x RAID1 with two drives = > 2 logical drives each 256 GB

-Two tables contain an ESX/ESXi installation

    - First RAID arrray has an ESX 3.5 installation that is old and I no longer use it since ages (starting from the second matrix Raid in BIOS)

    - Second RAID array has an installation of ESX 4.1U1 (Build 433742) . The one I use.

The two Raid arrays contain an about 250 GB VMFS datastore

Now, I want to move my box to ESXi (free) 5.0 using the CD-ROM. According to several of the videos from Youtube, it's as easy as making coffee.

But I had some problems during the upgrade that brought me to cancel and ask first of all you guys. I am very familiar with ESXi/vSphere, but I

I just want to ask some friends admin of course :-)

    1. problem: drivers incompatible:

I started the upgrade and was confronted with an error message regarding the 3rd third-party drivers that will be removed and could adversely affect system

    stability if deleted wrongly.

    The drivers are:

    OEM-VMware-ESX-Drives-net-vxge

    OEM-VMware-ESX-Drives-SCSI-3W-9xxx

Some googling showed that "vxge" seems to be a network of 10GB Netirion card and '3w-9xxx' is a 3Way SCSI card. None of them belongs to

my hardware configuration, so I guess I can safely ignore this and say installation force.

    Is this correct so far?

    2 problem

Setup identifies my two matrices RAID (logical disks) and asks me to choose an update. They have exactly the same same name :-(

Based on (F1) Details shows me the first disc containing my old installation of ESX 3.5 and the VMFS data store and the second of my current installation of the 4.1U1 and the other data store. So far so good. I would choose the second disc that contains updated 4.1U1 and press ENTER. <>.

    Now comes the big question:

All the videos and guides for upgrade on the internet show a screenshot that list possible upgrade scenarios:

[x] upgrade ESXi, preserve the VMFS datastore

But my box shows (and I found a video on youtube) the following as first option:

[x] force migrate ESXi, preserve the VMFS datastore

What is the difference and can I safely go the update? Just to remember, I chose the drive containing the installation of 4.1U1 not the

    container ESX 3.5.

Who would have something to do with the old installation of ESX 3.5 m on the RAID array other even though I chose the disk containing the curretn 4.1U1 install?

I really appreciate it someone could help me

    Kind regards

    Oliver

The installation program does not level you VMFS 5 3 VMFS datastore.  You will need to separately after the upgrade completed.

The message you see is related to your first questions about different package names.  Given that the installer does not know how update this package, it is just to tell you that he's going to migrate everything on and you may be missing some features.

  • With the help of vMA in vSphere 4.1 Environment 5

    Hi all

Can I use the latest version of vMA in my existing vSPhere 4.1 with mixed 4.1u1 4.0 ESX and ESXi?

    My goal is to

1 Deflate/convert the disk VMDK of EagerZeroedThick to enable MSCS support

    2 Syslog for ESXi hosts

    Thank you.

Yes, vMA 5 is fully compatible with vSphere 4.x & 5.x environment and recommend it especially if you use vi-fastpass/esxcli which has some bug fixed - http://www.virtuallyghetto.com/2011/07/vi-fastpass-esxcli-and-resxtop-bug.html

    (1) Yes

    (2) Yes, if you are not using vi logger as was with vMA depercated 5.
