I currently have vCenter 5.5 under Windows 2008 R2.  I've been thinking to replace my Windows with the appliance vCenter vCenter virtual.

I have read the documentation on the SSL certificates for vCenter.  I bought a RapidSSL SSL certificate on my current server vCenter.  It seems that everything is working correctly, but the documentation I read says I need a different cert for various services such as inventory, Journal browser and AutoDeploy Service.

VCenter requires there really that many different certificates?

Yes, each component of vCenter server requires unique SSL certificate:

Hello and welcome to the forums.

Information on p.14 means that Windows 2000 SP4 is not compatible with (in other words, you can not install) the Client vSphere, vCenter Server and VMware vCenter Update Manager.

Specific versions of Windows 2000 Server can be verified to support in the Compatibility Guides.  As long as you plan to run the Client vSphere, vCenter Server or VMware vCenter Update Manager on Windows 2000 virtual machines, you'll probably be fine.  It depends on which version of Windows 2000, you have, but just check the compatibility guide to be sure.

Thanks in advance for any response

In order to run the 64-bit clients, you need to enable 'VT - x' in the system BIOS. In addition to this I also recommend you activate "Execute Disable Bit" and - if necessary - disable "VT - d" as well as "Trusted Execution". Once done, save the BIOS settings and the power of the system (power power off) cycle. If this does not resolve the problem, thanks for posting the latest vmware.log of the virtual machine.

To configure DNS on the vCSA change the Type of address to SLAAC-IPv6 first and you can add DNS server address and the host name.

  • vCenter Server with vSphere Essentials best practices for small business

I hesitated to post this thread for fear of redundancy, but I wasn't able to find an answer in previous discussions.

I read the installation documentation for vSphere Essentials vCenter Server installation.

Is it a good idea to install vCenter on my ESXi host as a virtual machine?  I don't understand how the server can be installed as a virtual machine if she must always be on.  What happens when I do the updates of the hypervisor, ESXi (4.0 to 4.1)?  This would not cause the vCenter Server to disconnect?

Because I have Essentials, I don't have a HA and cannot migrate the server vCenter Server to another host as shown in the installation documentation.

    Thank you

It should not be a problem - if you manually perform the update using either the esxupdate or vcenter command vihostupdate does not at all in the game - if you use VUM he actually intitiates the vihostupdate order - when restarting the host to be reconnecting to vcenter once it is running.

  • VMnic changes do not replicate in Vsphere Client / Server vCenter Server

    Hello

I have a vmswitch0 and vswitch1, I did the nic teaming vmnic0 and vmnic1 in vswitch0 more far, I have removed the vmnic1 vswitch0 and even connect to vswitch1 but in client vsphere or vcenter server, it always shows the vswitch0 contains vmnic1 and vnminc2 plase help me how to solve the problem.

    Concerning

    MrVmware

I think that you have made these changes through the Service Console or RCLI. In this case, you must restart management services for the changes reflect in vCenter.

    service mgmt-vmware restart

    restart the vmware-vpxa service (optional)

(I know, this basically triggers the vCenter to re-read the configuration files of the host for example esx.conf)

  • Update Manager & virtualized vCenter Server

    Hello

Kind of a chicken and the egg here problem.  How you clean up a with UpdateManager ESX Server if it is installed on vCenter server is virtualized on the same ESX box?  I only ESX Server at the moment, so I can't vmotion whatever it is turned off.  I tried to update in any case say, but may not enter maintenance mode since my vCenter server is still in place.

    Hey,.

Looks like you yourself in trouble.

You can still use other ways to patch your esx hosts.

    1. using the update of the VI, installed with the client.

2 patch ESX host with esxupdate or use one of the many scripts online fixes (look for esx patch.pl)

  • Upgrade a undersized vCenter Server

A vCenter server for a small farm (4 hosts and about 200 VM) has been installed originally on the undersized material and should now be moved to an appropriate host more.

I see two options, implementation of a crowd to dedicate or a virtual appliance.

    • If I select a dedicated physical host and perform the procedure on the page http://kb.vmware.com/kb/5850444, RAM-how much should I be implemented, given the same host must act as vCente and Update Manager? Based on the documentation, I'd than 4 GB, but from my experience I'm not sute 4 GB are enough: can someone please suggest good memory sizing?
    • If I select a virtual appliance, can I migrate the vCenter cuttent leave the host physical currend to the virtual appliance?
      • Given I can migrate the current vCenter to a virtual appliance, what are the disadvantages of the implementation of a virtual appliance instead of a physical host?

    • As can a last chance, I use VMware converter to convert the current vCenter to a virtual machine and install it inside the vSphere infrastructure?

    Concerning

    Marius

The steps you mentioned should work ok. After the conversion of the virtual machine, make sure you reconfigure the IP settings and remove any material about the drivers and services that have been installed for the physical host and then install VMware Tools. I still suggest stop you the vCenter Server services and SQL-Server (in the case of a local installation) on the physical host computer before you start the conversion.

About HA, vCenter is required for HA configuration. HA itself independently on the hosts, vcenter Server. While the vCenter Server is turned off the VMs system will continue to operate and some features such as vMotion, DRS,... which are initiated by vCenter Server is not available.

I guess you don't have any other feature as View Composer,... installed on the server vCenter Server!
