vSphere Edition 'compatibility' and upgrade from v4 to v5

Salvation;

We have an environment v4 'Business Plus' existing with two ESXi hosts in a cluster (a 8 CPU license) split in two with distributed switching and HA.

We have another host, that I raised with the v5, but it's only the edition of 'Enterprise '. (4 CPUS).

The plan was whole environment V5 upgrade, using the new host as a Manager, but do not know how I could do this job.

Anyone know if the two editions (Enterprise Plus / business) can coexist in some way?

Thank you.

Gregg

The upgrade to vCenter is relatively simple and safe, but like any change, always take backup before starting the upgrade process. There is no problem if vCenter is a physical box, but if it's a virtual machine will be an advantage take a snapshot of the VM before starting the vCenter.

DVS to migration from VSS, you can do even without interruption of service, create a new standard switch, just move some NIC this VSS, create groups of appropriate port and migrate virtual and VMkernels computers.

A final word on vCenter, if your physical box run a 32-bit SO you can't do a upgrade vCenter on-site, from the vCenter 4.1/5.x runs on 64-bit so.

  • Upgrade from ESX3.5 to vSphere 5.0

    Hi all

I have a project to upgrade on update my old host ESX 3.5 and VirtualCenter 2.5 to the most recent and vSphere vCenter Server 5.0 and 5.0.

After having read in the doc upgrade and because of the environment is small, I decided to build a new vCenter Server from scratch rather than go through the upgrade process (mainly due to wanting to put vCenter on a virtual computer, upgrade the operating system to 64-bit, separate the VCDB on an external SQL Server etc.).

I'm hoping to do an orderly migration where I vMotion VMs off-a former host, upgrade to vSphere 5, and vMotion the VMs, then turn it back on for her.

My question is quite simple (I hope):

Can I add vSphere 5.0 ESXi hosts and ESX 3.5 hosts in the same Cluster HA (assuming they are configured the same way in regards to the vSwitch and vMotion) after I added all hosts in vCenter 5?

This is so that I can vMotion VMs ESX 3.5 hosts former on the new 5.0 vSphere hosts after an upgrade of the host.

Virtual machines are all alive and I can't afford to have downtime...

    Thanks for your time...

    -Anthony

    Hi Anthony,.

-There is no direct upgrade from ESX / I have 3.5 to 5.0

-See link that has the checklist of HA and on ESX 35 x patch requirement inorder to add to 5.0 HA cluster

    http://pubs.VMware.com/vSphere-50/index.jsp?topic=/com.VMware.vSphere.avail.doc_50/GUID-BA85FEC4-A37C-45BA-938D-37B309010D93.html

-If you upgrade VC25Ux, make sure that host certificates enabled, other wise HA configuration breaks down, link above has this info also

-Yes, VMotion works between 5.0 ESX hosts and ESX35x whether network, CPU compatibility are according to the needs.

  • Upgrade from Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 Professional and I have a few questions?

I'm about to upgrade to Windows Vista 32-bit to Windows 7 64 bit, but I'm very nervous (stupid - I know).  Currently I have Vista on a SATA internal hard drive, but is planning to install Windows 7 on my much bigger and 2nd inside SATA hard drive, which currently has no importance to this subject?

    1. Is it possible to install Windows 7 on an internal hard drive with Vista on another?  I have no intention to use Vista more so once Windows 7 installed will not need to keep if it is possible to do.
    2. Assuming that I can install Windows 7 on disk more while Vista is a smaller, I cause operational problems by removing Vista once Windows 7 has been wing not unhooked?
    3. Assuming the above is possible I will be able to "faithfully" copy/move/import (not sure of the method - help please) users existing file structure and data from the old files of user profiles of Vista on the smaller disk to the new files in user profiles Windows 7 on disk more nothing lose or create compatibility problems?
    4. If not, should I just stick with the installation of Windows 7 over Vista and use the larger 2nd disk to store users.  I chose this option will data being stored on the disc more to maintain its security between users.  That is, if Winodws 7 is intalled on the smaller C drive and I connect like me, can I keep my data of user on the 2nd drive internal more all ensuring that other users cannot access the data just by accessing the 2nd disc via "my computer"? I hope that makes sense!
    5. It is even possible to store data of the user safely on another drive to the operating system, but still maintain user security principals / separate secure?
    6. It is possible to install Windows 7 on the 2nd largest drive I can (before deleting Vista) user folders simply drag - move in new files of the user, I create in Windows 7 or is it more complicated than that.  (I'll try to find the simplest method to keep user files structures and existing Vista and import/copy/move data in new user profiles in the new operating system).

Sorry for all the questions but the family counts on me to get it right.

Show stopper, is that you can do a upgrade in place of a 32 bit OS (Vista in your case) to a 64-bit (Windows 7 64 bit) OS, you must perform an installation "Custom"and clean. "

This means that you should backup your media files data external 9to) before starting and reinstall all of your applications after installing Windows 7 64 bit.

Question: Did you buy an "Upgrade" version or the "full version" of Windows 7?

Regarding the drive to use, either will work, but the procedure is different.

  • Issue of license associated with vSphere upgrade from 5.5 to 6

I want to improve my environment to vSphere 5.5 to 6.

I have several ESXi servers and 1 vCenter server. Some servers ESXi serving direct environment and a test environment.

I want to upgrade, step by step so, install the new server vSephere and upgrade test environment 6.0 ESXi servers. and then run a few days test environment.

Upgrade needs, I need to convert the license keys to 6.0.

Can I run then simultaneously the two environemts two or three days? (living environment using license keys 5.5 and 6.0 keys environment converted from 5.5 test keys)?

Some key ESXi are used in several ESXi is used according to CPU sockets associated with these keys.

Believe me, it does not, it may seem, but you pile up errors for later.   It would be a better option to generate a vCenter 6 in eval mode and go that route.

  • vSphere replication upgrade from 5.5 to 5.8 active server (not accessible)

I was doing a vsphere replication update today from 5.5 to 5.8 and upgrade part seems to be okay.  After restarting the device however my vcenter reports that the server is not accessible.  I did something wrong?

I followed the steps here. VMware vSphere replication 5.8 Documentation Center

I searched a bit, but the only solution I found was to ensure and powering of the device and the Tower back on rather than just restart it a fix, but that has not seemed to help in my case.

    Thank you

If anyone is curious who don't end up fixing it was the certificate as I feared.  So after all this ironed out, which was still two days of work because of how long I would have this vcenter install go.  Everything has been fixed after replacing my old self signed cert with a new.

  • Upgrade from ESX 3.5 to the pain of VSphere 4.10

    Very well...

I was able to make a storage VMotion of VM running on ESX3.5 of our old SAN in the new NETapp san... No problem... Power off the computer virtual, cold have migrated the host VSphere 4.1.  Improved VMtools, turned power off and upgrade virtual hardware... Save power-> reset the NETWORK card using DHCP!  Virtual network adapters are of type "flexible." I have reset the settings of network adapter originally static IP address and windows complains that another adapter that is hidden and not installed is configured with the IP address... I've seen this before... But the problem is that the old adapter is the exact same AMD VMware Net Adapter like the one recently developed to date.  Attempted to delete the thing hidden devices, but the device that is hidden is not - it is the same thing as what is currently in use...

    .. What's going on here?

    did you start DEVMGMT. MSC

This must be done in the command line.  It appears your screenshot not started from the command prompt.

  • Question on Vsphere upgrade from ESX3.5 update 3

We currently have our VCServer and race, but I'll be upgrading for Vsphere 4.0 Update 1. To do this, I need to build a new server, because our current server is not compatible with the hardware requirements. First of all, is there an easy way to migrate the settings from one server to another? Also the networks I will build as my local lan and my dmz, network adapter settings, etc... be there when I take my guests on the new Vsphere server. Are the specific server VC parameters or appearing in ESX boxes themselves?

    jkoelker wrote:

So since I only change my virtual Center Server and without changing the physical material of boxes ESX but upgrading from 4.0 I still need to worry recreate all my settings. Depending on your position, the parameters are all specific to the ESX boxes and not the server Vcenter himself? I read that correctly? The only thing that happens is my Vcenter server. I'll put as the utility to update on what will update my esx boxes and Vsphere.

If you do an upgrade to ESX4, so yes all the settings will be retained.

I was under the impression that you have been rebuild the ESX host, that would be my choice of the upgrade.

  • "show my windows and tabs from last time ' does not work after upgrade to 8.01

After I've upgraded to the latest v8.01 I lost all my tabs sites and even trying to add them and save them with the tools > Options > general > start > when Firefox starts selected have to "show my windows and tabs from last time" she does not hold registered sites and browser restarts it always loses all tabs and shows only a tab with Firefox home Web page. I need to open several sites to work and the only way to do it now is to make sure, I click on the current use in "pages" under General Option of the tools. It's getting very boring because I keep changing my tabs to different sites in a meeting and I am used to simply close the browser, based on making them all back in when you restart Firefox.

Have you tried to delete the file or move it to another location?

There should also be a file sessionstore.bak that contains the previous session, i.e. the sessionstore.js file found at the beginning of the current session and is used to restore the previous session via ' history > restore previous Session '.

Also, make sure that Firefox is closed correctly and that there is not any suspended the process Firefox

  • I NEED TO KNOW WHY THE _ THERE IS NO COMPATIBILITY FOR WINDOWS XP MODE 7 HOME PREMIUM EDITION. AND WHY HAVE WE NOT "WAGES" TO ASK FUNDAMENTAL QUESTIONS AFTER THAT WE PAID HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS FOR THE SOFTWARE?

I PAID A LOT FOR NEW WINDOWS IN NOVEMBER LAST, AND I ARE NOT ELIGIBLE FREE SUPPORT?  THAT BREATH!  TEXAS INSTRUMENTS GOT GREEDY IN THE 1980S AND TOYOTA IS GOURMAND RECENTLY, NOW THEY'RE LOOKING AT BANKRUPTCY!

SO MY QUESTION IS IS THERE A DEMO FOR LATER VERSIONS OF WINDOWS 7? BECAUSE I NEED OBVIOUSLY BUT XP COMPATIBILITY MODE I WANT TO BE 100% CERTAIN THAT THIS WILL FIX THE PROBLEM OF MY GAMES CRASHING THE SYSTEM WHICH REQUIRES A REBOOT.

FOR MICROSOFT REAL, JUST HOW GREEDY YOU NEED BE?

I ARE NOT ELIGIBLE FREE SUPPORT?

If you buy retail (non OEM) then Microsoft generally taking care for the first two free incidents. Please consult the documentation provided with your copy of Windows 7.

IS THERE A DEMO FOR LATER VERSIONS OF WINDOWS 7?

I think that the only DEMO of Windows 7 available currently is approved specifically for the IT professionals. The demo lasts 90 days, but I "think" that Microsoft recommends that you be part of a company to participate. I don't know how they would feel if the average end user participated in the demonstration program.

I NEED OBVIOUSLY BUT XP COMPATIBILITY MODE I WANT TO BE 100% CERTAIN THAT THIS WILL FIX THE PROBLEM OF MY GAMES CRASH THE SYSTEM

I don't 'think' the XP COMPATIBILITY MODE in Windows 7 will help you a lot. I "think" it uses Para-virtualization, which is unfortunately too slow for almost all games. I was able to run some software in a virtualized copy of Win XP, but the software was not a lot of resources like computer games is.

I am surprised that your games break in Windows 7. I run 32 Bit Win XP Pro SP3 here at home, but I have recently built a machine Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit with 4 GB of RAM for my mother and it seems to work. My mother runs a Sims 3 and Sims 1 without problems, but Sims 2 gave here a few rendering problems that I don't think are associated with Windows 7.

I recommend that players stick with Windows 7. Although there are other available operating systems, Windows 7 is probably the best operating system currently available to players. High compatibility and DirectX 10 + Support + 4 GB of RAM (or more) supported in Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit make Windows 7 a good set of OS. Trust the creators of the XBox of world-class, Super Sidewinder Joystick and high-speed Direct X technology.

BTW: Now you can upgrade to Windows 7 Home Premium to Windows 7 Pro for only $ 90

Probably upgrade will not make your game better, but it will give you the possibility to have a safer computer.

    Final note:

I wish Microsoft could release a Version of Visual Studio 2010 Standard... Who doesn't have my feathers ruffled a little because I can't see paying $800 for a compiler...
