wake the computer after the installation of the new motherboard

Gateway has recently replaced the motherboard on my computer and now windows vista needs to be re-activated but I don't have the product key.  Gateway told me to restore the computer to factory settings, but this will remove all my programs.  Y at - it anotherway to do it without losing my programs?

In these cases, you will need to follow the advice of the manufacturer of the computer.

It's their product.

See you soon.

  • Will I need to re - install Win 7 after the new motherboard

I have a 'new' machine unfortunately screwed up. (It is refurbished, but many questions).

I probably get a new motherboard. The technology will be able to transfer the credentials to Win 7. I ask because on the Thinkcenter and my Y480 I reinstalled Win 7 NINE times and have now good things.

Basically, I really want to start rebuilding this machine with a lot of software, but if I have to reinstall after the new motherboard Tuesday I could wait as well. :-(

    DRM for pointers.

For anyone following the answer is NO (less if done by the engineer).

I asked support if the engineer should be port on my serial number for the new Board of Directors (Windows now finds the system not on a sticker card serial numbers). I was told 'no '.

Of course, the engineer DID. My data has been flashed to the new Commission and Windows never saw a difference.

Another wasted a few hours back up things.

  • VM Wkstn issues after the new motherboard

    Hello

I am a developer of software that uses VM Workstation to emulate client machines, servers, sharepoint etc to deploy code to and test it before you download. I use a Dell M6600 with ram of 16 gigs of the month running last win7

Recently, the motherboard is out but I was able to access the HD and support everything including my VM. After replacing the motherboard the ATU. host OS win7 would not start. Tech., making mboard said I had to reinstall I did and everything works and GTG on the host again.

I have installed VM wkstn 9 (what I used before) copied the VM to host and open. The first vm "resumed" without doubt as he ran to the death of mboard. The resume worked except that shortcuts etc. would not not open and what I tried to do has crashed. So I thought that a reboot may be in order.

Well, after it reboot charges but he "APPEARS" I don't have any video as the screen is empty except the mouse you can move very well.

If you start in safe mode you get video but everything (characters) is garbled code as the squares, slashes, circles etc. I can connect because I have this pretty well memorized screen and get on the desktop... once again only in safe mode.

I am assuming that the new motherboard really threw the VM for a loop. I don't mind creating a new virtual machine and migration but I was hoping that there might be something I could do to my old to do a little more functional otherwise migration is going to be very difficult.

    TIA

    JB

Here's so what finally fixed it. I copied the VM backup source again. Remove the vmem & VMS files suspense. Then, I unplugged all available hardware devices. Machine turned on and everything worked perfectly. I then added hardware devices back and all is good.

  • BSOD when trying to install Win7 64 bit with the new motherboard

    Hi all

I have the following BSOD problem:
I installed a new motherboard in my system (a MSI P43 C51). Before that, I got a Gigabyte G41MT-S2P. The rest of the configuration is: Q9650, Thermaltake truespirit 90 cooler, 2 x 4 GB DDR3 1333, GTX 470, 750W PSU, case name, SATA HDD 500 GB, Windows 7 64 bit.

Well, the problem started when I tried to boot into windows with the new motherboard: I got BSOD 1 second after windows starts loading. I thought... new motherboard, install new windows, so I tried to install windows 7 64 bit DVD and USB stick, I get the STOP: 0x0000000A error during installation. I changed the HARD drive, thinking that it could be a bad sector problem, but no, the other hard drive behaved exactly the same thing. I got BSOD at 40% extraction, extraction of 90% and for the moment "Complete the installation..." ». I also tried to install with the stick of memory only one, spent between ports, everything. The material I have works, as I played on my PC every day in the last month and received no. BSOD, also had a small overclock the CPU and the GPU (100 MHz on the processor, that the old motherboard supported more than 343 fsb and about 100 MHz on the GPU). It was stable, no errors, no nothing.

My thoughts are only, after asking some knowledge that work in computer support, it could be a problem of version of the BIOS (BIOS is 2005..) and the fact that my Win 7 installation kit is without Service Pack 1 (a colleague told me that he had this problem for the PC more than once and after trying to install SP1 It went smoothly and without errors)

I just got a new "blank" DVD of Win 7 64 bit with SP1. What I'll try today is to Flash the bios with the latest version and install the OS on a HARD drive new, sealed. He could not be my system components, because they are compatible and they worked 1 day before with no problems! I have literally NO IDEA what could be the problem. Today, I'll try the installation of the new DVD and with the new version of the BIOS. If this does not work, I have no idea what I can do... It is a sucky situation.

If you have any suggestions, please, don't keep it to yourself :-D

    Thank you!
    Alex

    ==============================================

References to Vista also apply to Windows 7.

Drivers could be at fault, however the problems of disk or security/antivirus/antispyware products are
just as likely to be the root cause that they can force a driver to corrupt or go out of bounds.
The video driver or something affecting it would be questionable.

At the end of this message, I'll post a bluescreen generic and in the next convenience store
How do to update the drivers and BIOS but also to check memory message.

    -----------------------------------

    BCCode: 0a 0x0000000A

    Cause

This bug check is issued if the memory paged (or invalid) is accessible when the IRQL is too high.

The error that usually generates this bug check occurs after the installation of the faulty device driver or service system, BIOS.

If you encounter a bug 0xA control during the upgrade to a later version of Windows, this error can be caused by a device driver, system service, an anti-virus or a backup tool that is not compatible with the new version.

    Solve the problem

If a kernel debugger is available, get a stack trace.

To resolve an error caused by the faulty device driver or service system, BIOS

    1. Restart your computer.
    2. Press F8 to character-based menu that displays the choice of operating system.
    3. In the WindowsAdvanced Options menu, select last known good Configuration . This option is most effective when a pilot or a service is added at a time.

To resolve an error caused by an incompatible device driver, system service, virus scanner, or backup tool

    1. Check the system log in Event Viewer for error messages that may identify the device or driver that caused the error.
    2. Try disabling the cache in memory of the BIOS.
    3. Run the diagnostics of equipment provided by the manufacturer of the system, in particular the scanner memory. For more information about these procedures, see the manual of your computer.
    4. Make sure that the latest Service Pack is installed.
    5. If your system has cards (SCSI) small computer system interface, contact the card manufacturer for updated Windows drivers. Try to disable sync negotiation in the SCSI BIOS, check the wiring and the SCSI ID of each device and confirming the proper termination.
    6. For devices (IDE) peripheral electronic integrated, set the built-in as only primary IDE port. Also, check each IDE device to the right setting master/slave/stand alone. Try to remove all IDE devices except for the hard drives.

If the message appears during installation of Windows, make sure that the computer and installed devices are listed in the list of the products tested Microsoft Windows market.

    Comments

Before upgrading to a new version of Windows, remove all third-party device drivers and system services and disable any antivirus. Contact software manufacturers for updates of these third-party tools.

  • Transfer by car to the new motherboard with OEM wind 7 on it

So a few days ago, I asked a similar question, but I think I found a method more efficient and I was wondering if it was possible.
My father and I built a 2nd computer and bought another copy of OEM Windows 7 HP 64 - Bit SP1, which is the same operating system on my current computer. This new computer has specifications of superior material, including the motherboard, so I would like to transfer my drive with my OS on it to this new card a mother. Since the product key binds to the motherboard, it would be possible to ask Microsoft to temporarily remove my product key of my current motherboard (without uninstalling my OS with all my files and applications on it), so I can transfer this SSD with my OS on it to the new motherboard and then pass the product keys?
We will always keeping this former/current computer and so I would be to reinstall the original product key to my original motherboard.
    Thank you

When the disc authentication fails in the new PC with the old key, right click on computer and select Properties.

At the bottom of the screen properties, it must give the authentication status and because he missed one of the options would be to get a new key. If this fails, you may need to call. This is the 1st time you used this key so should work

There is no process to allow off-a key, when you come to install Windows on the old computer go through the process of normal authentication that will probably succeed. Only if you have reinstalled Windows on this computer with the same key too often and, recently, it fails and you must call the authentication Center. If you have both connected do not all selections and waiting and an operator should come online.

  • Hard drive Windows 7 to transfer to the new motherboard without reinstalling

    Hey all -

So, my goal is to transfer my old hard drive to a new motherboard without reinstalling my OS. I heard that it is possible, but difficult.

If I find it's too intimidating, anyone know how I can do to reinstall my windows 7 if I don't have an installation disc? I got it through the .edu email and I don't know that I have the original installation file, is it possible for me to re - download without paying again?

Install everything on the new motherboard, and then turn it on.  It should be like Windows Vista, it will take some time to sort itself, go online to get drivers etc (so ensure you have the new drivers for motherboard on hand like LAN, graphics etc. where it cannot find them online), but you shouldn't have to reinstall.  You will have to reactivate.

Needless to say that the pci card no longer works.

Can it be fixed, I'm not so sure?

Then someone know where I can get my hands on a new motherboard? I've scanned the internet but come in white.

    See you soon

    Hello

This model of laptop is fairly new, and I imagine that it will be difficult to get the new motherboard. Of course, you can order one by authorized service provider, but it will be expensive.

Have you checked eBay? With a little luck, you'll find a L40 with faulty display or any other hardware problem. Maybe using two defective notebooks, you can have one that works correctly. ;)

By the way: I assume you want to disassemble without maintenance manuals. Be careful!

I was planning on using the same hard drive, but I found that I can not boot into Windows 7 more. The operating system is to see what he thinks, it's a brand new computer?

Have I not the license right credentials to run Windows 7 on this computer 'new '? The old motherboard is of no use to me, and the operating system only and will only ever be used on a hard drive. If it is all ok - how can I get my Windows installation to work, keeping in mind that I only have a Windows 7 upgrade disk?

    Best regards, jazznaz

Yes, it's a brand new computer, but you should be able to use, the license would be out of respect and you would just set it using a key of Windows 7 Edition Home Premium full version.

Because you used the Windows Vista OEM license as a basis for the Windows 7 Home Premium upgrade qualification, this license is more in use since you changed the motherboard. This means you need to get a full license.

Releasing it's easy: with Windows | ActiveWin | Laptops | Microsoft MVP
