Want DV-7373: when Windows 10 update is no longer free, what then?

I tried upgrading to Windows 10 64-bit more than 15 times for about 8 months after it became available. I have studied possible solutions until I just couldn't do more. You name it, I tried it-everything except for agreeing to erase all my data and the currently installed software. I refuse to do it just to get Windows 10.

So my question is, what will happen this summer (2016) where Microsoft no longer offers free upgrade? My plan is to use only my HP Envy running Windows 8.1 until the death of my laptop to old age. Do you know if Microsoft will stop supporting the Windows 8.1 end of 2016?

Oh and just for fun, I spent nearly 12 hours on the phone with Microsoft Support trying to get my upgraded laptop and could not even 2nd level support upgraded. They did not know why he would not be level. The 1st and 2nd level Tech support even remotely connected to my laptop to evaluate my system and run the upgrade themselves and failed.

I hold no hope that anything short of a system to destroy and the loss of all my software and data will work... and which does not occur in this life :-)

Keki

MS has announced that they intend to interrupt the free upgrade to Win10 the end of July, 2016 and after that, you will have to pay the rate for an upgrade - more than $100 USD.

It keep bouncing back in the media tech, depending on where you go, but to date, MS is not passed back on this announcement with no indication that they intend to continue the free upgrade.

Good luck

I use Windows XP SP3 & Windows 7 Ultimate. How can I get updates so that I can install it even after reinstalling windows.

I want this cause I have to reinstall Windows frequently.

A much simpler and easier solution is to do a clean install and update and then create an image of your new installation, the next time you need to reinstall Windows you simply restore your image and update the image newly installed and then create an image update for the next installation.  There are many Imaging disc out there, many of them for free.  I prefer TeraByte Image for Windows (not free) for my imaging needs.

I want to say is - this just the recent version of the patch file included the previous versions of the files in the patch.

Well, if I understand correctly, your request is that the fix in the tasks will be cumulative. For example. Fix1, Fix2 Fix3 are there for the kernel, if you applied Fix3, does include the Fix1 and Fix2. The answer is Yes. Patches for a specific vib also contains his previous patches.  But again, it comes to only specific vibs.

  • Crash when windows was updated; Cannot start windows.

After installing the latest Windows Update, and restart the computer, Windows loaded normally.  I logged my user profile and nothing happened - responsible for the background image, the stunned startup sound, but then nothing.  I waited for almost an hour.  The computer was not processing anything.  I used the Task Manager to disconnect from my profile and reconnected, and it's the same thing.  I restarted the computer, and now, Windows will not boot.

More strange failure to start - when I use F8, and I try to start safe mode, he asks me what operating system I want to use - and there are two Windows XPs listed.  Work not at all; the other comes to Mup.sys and then freezes.

If I try to boot normally, the Windows loading screen shows for a minute or two, and then the screen goes black.

The next time you get the F8 menu, try the "Last known good Configuration" option.

Thanks for posting in the Microsoft Community.

To avoid Windows 10 update on your Windows 7 computer, you can reset your component to update Windows 10. Please refer to this link: How to reset the Windows Update components.

  • When windows update is running on my machine (and updates), my screen goes down to 1024 x 768.

When windows update is running on my machine (and updates), my screen goes down to 1024 x 768.  I have a HD card of ATI all-in - Wonder and an Acer X203H LCD with DVI connection.  If I use system restore to go back, I can get higher resolutions, but Windows does its thing and I'm back at low resolution.  I can't change the settings manually as 1024 watch as the highest res available to the general public when this happens.  There must be some weird conflicts.  I tried to update the drivers, that made no difference.  Is there a setting Aero or the conflict at stake here?  In the past, I've had trouble with a display of balnk and I had to go back to the 2008 version of the driver to get things to work.  From there, whenever I update, I can keep high resolution, but after the last windows update (security of IE8 and much smaller pack that was released on March 28-30), it dates back to 1024 x 768 again.  Control Panel and catalyst control the two show that as more high resolution available for refresh rate. Suggestions?

Understanding Windows Update and Extras in Windows Vista

Download updates but let me choose whether to install them - if you select this option, Vista will download the updates on your computer, but not install them automatically. If you want to install updates, then you must install them manually. You should only select this option if you have a reason to not install updates automatically. Only advanced users should use this option.

Check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them - if you select this option, you'll be alerted when there are new updates available for download and install. You can then choose to download and install the updates that you want. This option should really be reserved for people who know exactly which updates they need, or those who have little access to the Internet.

  • I have Windows 7 Ultimate 32 - bit (Home Premium update) and I want to re - install Windows but in 64-bit. Will I still have Ultimate

I have a Toshiba with Windows 7 Ultimate 32 - bit (Home Premium update) and I want to re - install Windows but in 64-bit. Will I still have Ultimate?

I'm going to re - install from 32 to 64-bit via the loader of windows recovery.
This computer has asked ma to install 32 or 64 bit when I first turned on, I chose 32, but now I want to 64.

It depends on. Is the license of Windows 7 Ultimate, a full version license or upgrade, or upgrade Express?

If its an Express upgrade license, you will need to reinstall Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, then make the Express Windows 7 upgrade Ultimate edition using the Express upgrade key, you have.

If you have a Windows 7 Ultimate full retail or upgrade version license, you can simply by using the 64-bit Windows 7 Ultimate disc and do a custom Setup on the current installation of 32-bit.

You will need to do a clean install, there is no place on the way to upgrade Windows 7 32 bit to 64 bit.

Using the disk of 64-bit Windows 7, install Windows 7 Windows Easy Transfer Utility from the DVD (to find it, simply navigate to x:\support\migwiz, "x:" is the name of your hard drive. (In this case, you will see a collection of files, the important"that you must search for and double-click is 'migsetup'.) run it and create a DAMP (Windows Easy Transfer file), if you have an external hard drive, you can access it later when you perform a clean install of Windows 7 64-bit disk so you can stored there.

Once you have done this, just do a clean install of Windows 7 64 bit disc. In Windows 7 64 bit disk, start Windows Easy Transfer, follow the wizard screen, tap on which is stored the WET file (external hard drive) and it will restore your personal files and settings. Reinstall the applications needed.

    http://www.notebooks.com/2009/10/07/using-Windows-easy-transfer-in-Windows-7/

Boot from the DVD 64 bit Windows 7
    Click Install now
    Accept the license agreement
When the option is displayed to select a type of installation, click (Custom advanced)

Select the disk partition where you want to install Windows 7 click Next.

You will receive the following warning:

The partition you have selected may contain files from a previous Installation of Windows. If so, these files and folders will be moved to a folder named Windows.old. You will be able to access the information in Windows.old, but you will be able to use your previous version of Windows.

(At all costs, do NOT click on anything in Format, deletion or Partition name.) So even do a custom installation, your personal files are still kept. Click OK

The installation program will now begin installation. During installation, your computer will be restarted several times.

Once the installation is complete, you can complete the Out of Box experience as the choice of your laptop, create a username, password, your time zone. You can then proceed to download the latest updates for Windows and reinstall your applications and drivers.

You can then retrieve your personal files from the Windows.old folder and reinstall all of your applications and drivers.

Some of my friends told me turning on these updates can affect your windows genuine. I'm so nervous about it. Please anyone suggest me some opinions on this issue.

Might want to change your topic: activate _ updates (on or off)?  I guess that 'off' because they would be 'on' by default and given your body of the message.

Everything and nothing (electricity, heat, installed applications, antivirus, your Internet applications and method, etc.) can change your Windows installation in a way that could have an effect on your system.

While it is true that the last two months of updates caused some problems on some installations (some even which surrounds whether the reported OS is it authentic or not)-these errors were not impossible to fix, etc.  However, in some cases, the updates are released to avoid a problem that can be more of a disaster than to have to prove you own Windows and get it activated (as someone to install malicious software on your computer because you visited your new favorite web page and looked at a picture it and all your user name and password you enter on web pages are currently sent to someone ' one/something left for one) later use.)

-If you wish - set update system so that you control when and which updates are installed - but remember to check after the second Tuesday of each month and towards the end of each month to make sure that you're not going a long period of time without having to install them.  Install one or two, reboot, test, repeat.
