  Windows 8 Pro supports up to 192 GB of RAM, but you should check the manufacturers Web site to find out how much your HP can support. You can also go to http://www.crucial.com and use System Monitor to determine how much is supported.

  If you have JUST performed a CLEAN INSTALL of XP and you are at the SP1 level, you can do the following (somewhat tedious):

  Download the SP3 installation files (SP2 is not necessary if you already have SP1 or SP1a!), IE8 and Microsoft Security Essentials, which is an effective antivirus/antimalware program.
