What I gain / lose from Expression Media to Lightroom

I use products Microsoft in general for years and as part of what I'm asking here, following Expression since Version 1. Expression Design does not anywhere near Photoshop CS5, which I just bought, but also as an editing program I need a decent asset management product. For the moment, I use Expression Media mainly to catalogue my photos, but also to use the HTML export feature to create quick slide shows for the web. Microsoft did not update Media since version 2 (not that this is a problem in itself), but also sold in Phase One, who have not yet said what they will do with it.

My questions are, Lightroom provide the functionality the same or better as Media did as a tool for asset management (since Adobe seem to at least continue to develop the programme), and what else I gain from it. It's not a huge investment at £200, but I would not think I can spend it for no real benefit.

Thank you, to an enthusiastic amateur photograper.

This is absurd. Expression Media (the old iView) is a dedicated media manager and can handle all types of files - raw files, other image as JPEG, music, Word and Excel formats, PDF etc. etc. Lightroom is not "first a Media Manager ' in every sense. It's a combination of an asset with the processing Manager and the adjustment features, and his management ability is limited to only the main image formats and video.

To the original poster, what you win is the ability to manage and adjust images in one program. You would be able to adjust the brightness and color for example or remove stains from dust, and you would still have the option to print, make slideshows, generate the HTML. What you lose is the ability to manage any type of file you want, and the other characteristics of a dedicated asset manager - for example a list view.

Who knows what I will be doing a PhaseOne with the product? Unfortunately under Microsoft he was going nowhere, but at least now it's in the hands of a company that appreciates, it's a good product.

  • Recovery of Toshiba Express Media Player

I replaced my 100 GB HDD (Toshiba made, which included Toshiba Express Media Player by default factory) with 320 GB of HDD (Toshiba). I want to install Toshiba EMP.

When I boot from the recovery EMP disc has received this message:
Recovery is not supported on this system. Press any key to exit. (my ultimate Windows 7 x 64 operating system)
Also I have this message on the old HARD drive. Also the operating system Windows 7 x 64 Ultimate & Windows XP Professional x 86.
When I install different operating systems (Red Hat, Debian) on my old job to drive HARD Toshiba EMP & not removed even if I deleted the partitions & etc.
I've updated my BIOS version of 3.00 to 5.60 to install Windows 7 a few years ago.

    Perhaps the BIOS hinder?

If I m remembering well Toshiba offered this media player there is the old models like Satellite 5200 10 years so I m asking me what model of laptop you have exactly.

What of more confusing, is that you use Win7. Something wrong here.

You have to model more recent laptop and want to use this old piece of software or you have enough old laptop designed for Windows XP Home edition and use Win7 on it. I m confusing.

Currently, Toshiba offered recovery disk disk Toshiba Express Media Player and recovery for Windows XP Home edition and only the use of these two discs worked well. Now mix installation Toshiba Express Media Player with dual boot... I really put t know if it will work.

Main problem is that you will have problem to find someone who can test it for you. Let's see.

  • Satellite U205-S5002: cannot retrieve the Express Media Player after upgrading the HARD drive

So I bought just a new Toshiba Satellite U205-S5002 I love it. One of the great features that interest me was the Express Media Player feature.

My first step was to upgrade the hard disk and 160 GB and 2 GB ram.
I placed the disk and ram in my old laptop and sold it.

Before that I did, I made a copy ghosts and ghost of the hard drive to the new drive. Well come to find out...

Toshiba is not provided with this software preinstalled, so I followed the instructions to burn my recovery disk Express Media Player and the boot on the new disk.
So this is where the saga begins...

After 15-20 seconds, I get a soothing blue screen (NOT of blue BSOD you mind) who says:

    /!\
An error occurred during the recovery of "Express Media Player".
    -------------------------------------------------------
Please pick up the image again from the beginning.
    Press any key to exit.

It is typed exactly as it is on the screen. So, I see some other forums saying: you must have the free space of the disk so I resize the partition that allows 200 MB of space. Always the same... then try 2 GB even... then the 50 GB, same problem...

OK, so obviously not a question of space. I read while I might need to erase the drive... so I delete the partition, this same error... then I run the recovery disk and tell him to wipe the drive, wait 1 1/2 hour, it ends. No dice! So I decide... ok... Well lets try another disk... I have restored my ghost image... and burned the image again... same question... so I decide to the recovery disk and I'll try to reinstall windows in the factory and make a record...

Well, it does not work as well as you think... the image is incomplete... windows works fine... but the c:\Toshiba\ExpressMediaPlayer folder is empty!

I'm happy that I have ghosts my original directory. But I decide allows to Express Media Player a shot more now that I have restored to factory... always the same error... I then decide a trial more... I'll erase drive 1.5 hours, I'll restore from toshiba dvd provided but leaving plenty of space at the end 2 GB (I have a lot about people who tell you to base just around 200 MB)

5 hours later... moment of truth... Well Yes you guessed it... I don't know anything else to try... I have a bad image?
You need one that I can download what has worked for them for sure? Or have - I have completely found myself by replacing the HDD with after market and which is originally a kind of compatibility issue?

    Thank you in advance.

    Hello

    It s a great story!
I put t know how to start so maybe first some info on the Express media player.

As you said, and has already proposed the Express media player has been preinstalled on the second partition.
If you want to install this media Express on the HARD disk drive, 150-200 MB of free space must be available. This free space must be on the end of the HARD drive and there must be unallocated.
To get these free space on the HARD disk, 3 third-party products should be used as for example the Partitions Magic 8!

I'm not going to write a story how to recover the Express media player because Toshiba has already created useful documents, which described complete installation!
I found these documents in the knowledge base of computer Toshiba:
    http://EU.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/generic_content.jsp?service=EU&ID=TIC2

  • Satellite Pro M70-273: feature of the Express Media Player feature

Two weeks ago, I bought a Pro Satellite Toshiba M70-273 'Limited Edition' (?). The model number is PSM76E-00J00QDU, SPM76, model name, production date 2006-02-21. According to the specs I found in the online user manual or in a folder with the publication references
    «TEG October 2005, art.» N0. DSSSPM70 10/05NLBE', there is a 'Express media feature' 'on some selected models "...

It is not clear if yes or no, the model that I bought it. I have an of CD/DVD "button that I use to run my built-in dvd player (WinDVD for example), but it does not work as it appears as 'a disc standalone player' who plays a dvd (movie) without the need of Windows startup.

To watch the movie on dvd, after using the CD/DVD button, I start in Windows, the connection in Windows XP, and the office at startup, the WinDVD screen presents the film.

This isn't what I expect from a stand-alone dvd player. My old laptop has a 'dj function' with which you can play a cd without booting in Windows (or turning on the laptop), simply by pressing a special button on the front. What about the promised feature of the Toshiba Satellite Pro?

Is there a feature "Express Media Player" at all? How can I check if the function is provided? I used the provided configuration, the first time I used my laptop. I don't want to use the recovery CD provided unless it would be absolutely necessary to install this missing functionality.

    Hello

Yes. Some Toshiba models use a player Qosmio (Qosmio units) and some computers laptop Toshiba supports also the Media Express Player.

I downloaded the user manual of the Satellite Pro M70 and it seems that some laptop computers in this series come with the express media player. But unfortunately the Media Express drive was not installed and delivered with this laptop.

  • Absent Express Media Player series M100

    Hello
Can someone from Toshiba help me? I bought Satellite M100-164. The main reason for purchase was Express Media Player (EMP). I was very surprised after the Windows loading, whem I have found no sign of EMP. First, I checked the EMP button assign, it was OK, but there was no such an application called EMP. So I checked the assigning HARD disk partitions, there would be no indefinite parition for EMP Web site. says "don't Enjoy the EMP button, for playback of DVD/CD immidiate", it is in the description in all series of M1OO products! What does that mean? It is very annoying for me. The next thing that bothers me is the technical documentation. Toshiba says: (I dislike this asteriks) "The EMP is available on some models", but when you want to know that you, you have no chance to find, web site or documentation! Toshiba tips their client? Could someone tell me what series M100 product have a preinstalled EMP? Thank you very much

    Hello

Each M100 is not preinstalled with EMP and your unit is one of them. Usually your local dealer should have some information about it and know exactly what he sells.

Obviously you didn't understand what is EMP but I will try to explain in a few sentences. FAST media player is small application based on Linux that allows you to watch DVDs or listen to audio CD WITHOUT operating system startup. Because of this, you will not be able to find anything in Windows Explorer. Second interesting thing is that EMP is preinstalled on small space not partitioned on the HARD disk and for Windows, it is not visible.

I hope that you are satisfied with this short explanation. If you have any other questions you are welcome at any time.

    Good bye

  • Satellite A100 series - Express media player does not turn off!

I had to restart my laptop after completing the update of windows, and after rebooting, it does not start in Windows, but for Express Media Player instead. The drive will turn off little matter what I do so I press on and press and hold the power button until the laptop turns off.

But when I turn it on again, the player is still there! Can someone tell me how can I turn the thing please?

    Hello

Express media player is installed on a different partition.
I guess your laptop try to boot from this partition first, and that's why the Express media player starts instead of your installed operating system.

Your operating system must be installed on the first partition and the Express media player must be installed on the last partition.

In disk management, you can check your partitions created on the HARD drive

    Please check this!

  • Where can I get disk download Express Media Player Boot?

Only I have reformat my hard drive on my M55 S3291, when I bought this M55 it does not come with the Express Media Player Boot disk since I didn't buy no official distributor. is there a way where I can download/limewire or a copy of it. Thank you.

The media Express with that Player was delivered selected laptops.
I don't know if the EMP has been delivered with this laptop because it seems that it is an American unit.
However, the fact is that you can't download the Express Media Player from the website. It is perhaps possible to get this program to the Toshiba service partner.

  • Express media player installation

    Hello

my computer did an automatic and installed update express media player... then I turned off the computer and then I tried to turn it back on, but the screen was black. After that I typed my password and press on enter, express media player was launched, but I couldn't close the express media player.

I put in the disc of recovery of the product and turned back on my computer, pressing the F12 key, but the screen was black again, and so I have, and then enter the computer started working and after 2 minutes I pressed on enter 2 times and my computer ejected the product recovery disc then I turned it off and when I turned it on again the screen was still black... What can I do to make my computer useable again?

    Thank you Alex

And what model of laptop do you have?
To be honest Express media player can be installed only. I have it on my old Satellite M70 and it's player delivered separate to be installed disk of the separate facilities.
This player is Linux-based application on and must be installed on a separate small unallocated partition.

In general it has nothing to do with WXP and automatic updates.

  • Satellite A105-S2101 - can't watch DVDs with Express Media Player

I have this laptop Satellite A105-S2101, and the LCD breathed on me in two years.

Fortunately, I can still use the VGA and S-video output but it may as well be a desktop PC now. Anyway, I just wanted to add that because of this problem, no longer is I can watch DVDs with Express Media Player because it will not accept VGA or S-video as default is just my broken - up, good for nothing always blurry LCD anyway.
It's only when I'm in Windows mode can I switch to an external monitor.

The reason I'm writing is, if it is necessary to add anything to an EMP update - this is the time and it would be something to add. What the devil?

    Have you tried another player?
I prefer the VLC media player. He plays the most video and audio files, it s freeware and easy to use. Check it!

Have you changed something on your hardware or software configuration before this happened?
Maybe it's time to reinstall the drive Media Express

  • Express Media Player starts automatically when the Satellite M45 is disabled

After two years of trouble without using my Satellite M45 from acting weird.

Occasionally, when it is turned off or in hibernation the Express Media Player will begin; This can occur immediately after hibernation or in the middle of the night even if it is passed by closing down.

No disc is in the drive and it's right there waiting for a disc to be inserted. It may not even start with the Detective Conan.

Sometimes, often, and I have to unplug the power and remove the battery in order to get some sleep. Is there a simple solution or there at - there a way to uninstall the Express Media Player?

    Hello

Throughout history, there is a confusing thing. Express Media Player starts when the OS is shutdown properly. This means that the Express media player cannot start after the hibernation mode. This player is not part of the operating system and runs separately.

Because of this, it will be interesting to know which application starts. East - Media Express Player or Windows Media Player?

In any case, I believe that each of them can be started after pressing media placed next to the switch buttons. There may be a problem with it.

  • Strange problem with Toshiba Express Media Player on Satellite M115-S3094

I am facing a strange problem in my Toshiba M115-S3094, which has been pre-installed with Windows XP Media Center edition and which also had the Toshiba Express Media Player.

I had already done a clean install of Vista on it, and then I decided to go back to XP with my recovery DVDs. I did the same procedures of first installation Express Media Player to backup (that I did when I bought the laptop) and then installing Windows XP DVD de Toshiba Recovery XP.

    The steps included:
1 deleted recovery Express media player disk partitions
    2. installed express media player
3 extracted Xp Recovery DVD, by selecting 'Recover without changing the Partitions' (there is no expert mode)

Everything was fine (i.e. installation)... But now, after the turning off my laptop I press the Express Media Center button, the logo "Express Media Player" appears on the screen after loading of closures of laptop for 5 seconds.

I tried to open it again and again, but the logo is displayed for 5 seconds and then my laptop stop...

Laptop works fine when I connect to windows by pressing the power button / stop.

Can someone help me on this strange question... ?

    Hello

The whole story is a bit confusing
First of all, I would like to know if your laptop is already preinstalled with the Media Express Player and if you were able to use it on your laptop in the past.

    Now something about the Express Media Player installation;
In order to use the media functions Express the Mediaplayer Express Recovery CD must be performed before performing the recovery from the recovery DVD-ROM products.

In addition, on the HARD drive should at least 150-200 MB of free space available.
This free space must be on the end of the HARD drive and there must be unallocated. To get these free space on party products 3rd HARD drive should be used as Partitions Magic 8.

I m not 100% sure that on error ID system badly but maybe it corresponds to the DMI evil information stored on the motherboard. If we're not DMI, you will not be able to reinstall Express Media player using the recovery media express CD.
In the DMI must be set properly the manufacturing: Toshiba, product name: for example by Satellite M115-S30

Finally and most importantly, I found this thread useful forum on the Media Express recovery procedure:
    http://forums.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?MessageID=51801쩙

    Could be useful for you!

  • Need the code source Express Media Player

Where can I get it? (even Google couldn't find it).
It seems that the violation of GPL license...

You can't get the source code because it s not an open-source program. It s a main component of toshiba´s material and I dare to doubt what they won´t give us the code that they are coding and earn money with it.

If you can do one thing: you can try to make reverse engineering and to recode the express media player in a version of open source to implement on computers laptop toshiba.

    Welcome them

  • Satellite M70: How to get the Express Media Player feature?

I M70, but I formatted it once I bought it. Now, you could tell me how to recover the function of Express Media Player? There is no setup.exe file in the Express Media Player recovery CD.

    Thank you

    Hello Weimin

In order to use the media functions Express the Mediaplayer Express Recovery CD must be performed before performing the recovery from the recovery DVD-ROM products.
You can't run Express Media player after performing a recovery.

Should at least 150-200 MB of available free space on the HARD drive.
This free space must be on the end of the HARD drive and there must be unallocated.
To start the installation, you must boot from the recovery Express Mediaplayer CD

    Good bye

  • What will I lose with a re-9nstall BONE?

I had problems with such spontaneous reboots as discussed in this thread; "Why after restart 2 hours sleep." It seems that my next step is to re - install El Capitan? Sounds a bit scary, that the instructions given in the "recovery" page Apple support seems benign.

If I re - install what will I lose? I suppose that some settings will go to default but should I write or copy to another security program? I'm the clone with CCC before doing this step but wish you do not to have to use it.

    Geoff

Before anything is a great idea and there is no problem if you don't have to use the cloning: it will take very little time. Now, if you simply reinstall the OS on top of what you have, you will not lose anything. However, if you have any problems, and they could be caused by a third-party software incompatibility, then nothing will have changed. Therefore, if you use recovery and that you choose to delete your hard drive first, and then of course everything will be deleted. Re-entered settings are redone quickly, so I wouldn't worry on this subject. Also: using the CCC will create a clone which means it will copy everything back. However, if you want a backup from which you can extract only certain things, then the built in Time Machine might be a better option (or, as many people do, use both if you have two backups).
