  I installed on a cutting and not because the automatic switch works because it isn't always. It came with a remote control that is almost as good, so don't mind the fact that automatic switching does not work well. The reason why I chose cutting is because it was the first device that gave me the good picture and sound quality with my AppleTV, the Xbox 360 and the PS4. (Don't ask!)

  Currently, the best options are the OCZ ARC-100 series, the 850 series of Samsung (good price on Amazon) and 6G OWCseries. OWC also has tool boxes if you need it and installation tutorials. If you want to keep the HARD drive then you buy one of their media DataDoubler to put the old HDD in the space occupied by the optical drive. It can even include an enclosure for the optical drive.

  How to use an SSD with your HARD drive If you want to use an SSD as boot with your existing HARD disk drive, as the disk 'data', here is what you can do. After installing the SSD, you need to partition and format the SSD using disc utility disc. Then install OS X on the SSD. Once installed OSX boot from SSD. Startup disk preferences to set up the SSD as the boot volume. Open the preferences users and groups. Click the lock and authenticate you. Or CTRL - RIGHT click on your username account list in the sidebar and select Advanced Options in the context menu. You will see a field called "Home dir: ' on the far right, you will see an Edit button. Click on it. In the file dialog box, navigate to the location in house now located on the HARD disk (disk HARD/users/user_name /.) Select the folder, click the Open button. Restart the computer, as shown.   Any SSD with a box 2.5 "will be compatible with your MBP.  I recommend OWC SSD or critical based on my experience and other participants of CSA veterans.

  This isn't a matter of "codec pack", you just need a good conversion tool any goal or two. Apple Compressor works well as do all the other products mentioned here.
