What is Linux?

Hi experts,

It is a simple question, but I have no Internet information. This is the reason why I had to ask this question here.

Oracle publishes steps of installation only documentation for Linux, Hp - ux, ibm - ax, solaris and windows. Apply to all versions of Linux such as RHEL, OEL, SUSE, Centos or Red hat Linux?

It also means the same installation steps to be followed for all platforms Linux regardless of sellers?

Please clear my doubt.

Kind regards

Ravi

If there is nothing on a Linux installation that would allow to distinguish between providers, it should be noted in the appropriate location.  There is no specific RHEL vs OEL vs SUSE (etc.) docs.  Than a simple Setup Guide of database for Linux.  That in itself should tell you something.

Oracle does not have to certify their products to work on all the Linux distributions.  But for these distributions for which it is certified, a single, generic, installation guide is provided because it is all that is necessary.

  • A few questions using Linux on Satellite L30-10 x

Sorry to bother you people, but I had this satellite L30-10 portable x.

I try to make it work with my o/s preference, what is Linux (or any unix-based), for which the goal, I need to know what's what in there, IE.

    1. how chip works for the compatible softmodem V. 90 - 92?

    2. What is happening with everything that controls usb ports?

I found a live-cd that makes the USB ports of the work, which is the work of disks usb-Clerkship on them, so I'll solve this one thanks to study how it does, and 2 of the 3 live-cd I used seems to have the graphics (up to new problems when I try for different resolutions..)
but that leaves the question of the modem.

I haven't tried something more, like the WiFi network, pc-card (I hope that ethernet works... it is usually without much trouble).

There is also a good question on the cd/dvd drive, that is, it is declared as a "super multi" one (whatever that means) and a 'double layer' one and nobody promised anything about burning DVDs with it (the seller certainly didn't), but the docs online here @ toshiba - Europe.com say about the L30 series it is supposed to be able to burn 8 , 5 GB, so it it true finally on the specific cd/dvd driver 10 x model or what?

I understand that many people would disagree with the use of linux on a machine designed for a specific software company,
but I still believe that the manufacturer of this product (the satellite laptop L30-10 x) should tell customers what's in it, period.

In short, if you can not help with my questions above, please tell the best, you know who I should ask, which is supposed to be responsible for what is in this anywhay for laptop, a mailing address or e-mail, something to try for more information.

    Elder Hello

In recent days, nobody writes here and I just want to write a few words. As you probably know that Linux is not supported by Toshiba and with Linux, you're on your own. Please if you have time check out this Linux section. You will find many interesting topics and I hope some information about Linux on the laptop A100 and A200 model.

  • Linux (Slackware 13.1) on the Toshiba Satellite C660D - 10 p

Hi guys. I want to buy the laptop shown in the topic, but I first wanted to ask if anyone had any experience with Linux on it and maybe even with distribution Slackware 13.1. Is it portable and compatible linux? Another issue is whether someone has a link to Toshiba's official information on this laptop. I could not find it in the session of products from the Web site. There is no such model - ' C660D - 10 p. However, I have the printed sheet "Technical Details" of her saddle (store), but there is no info on the chipset and the specifically-wireless interface model

    Any time the worksheet says:
CPU: AMD Athlon II P340 (2.20 Ghz)
    Physical memory: 4096 MB DDR3 (1066 Mhz)
    Graphics card: Radeon HD 4250
    HARD drive: 320 GB

Webcam, mic, wlan, lan, vga, card reader, usb

    To summarize:
T1) do you think Slackware and cell phone are compatible?
Q2) where is the official information of the Toshiba on this model?

    ---
    Thx a lot.

Laptops are specific products of these countries and if this laptop model is offered in your country simply check out the official page of Toshiba.

    What about Linux?
As you probably know he is not officially supported by Toshiba so until you wait here check the Linux section on this forum or try to visit some of the Linux forums. There you can often find about Linux on laptops different reports including different Toshiba laptops.

  • Satellite M40X 185 linux live cd, noise and temperature

    Hello

I just bought a satellite M40X-185. I flashed the bios with success of 1.30 to 1.60. Windows XP home (preinstalled) works perfectly. I found three questions:
    1. when I try to boot from a cd live linux (suse 9.3 dvd, knoppix 3.9 or mandrake move) the system hangs. Any idea of this behavior? With knoppix, it seems to hang while loading driver cardmgr. So I thought it was a problem with the linux cardbus but ultimately suse live driver dvd 9.3 has succedded in load correctly if I disable acpi (command-line ACPI = off). TR is the problem related to M40X material and/or bios version or is it related to linux (the kernel version maybe?). Thank you

    2. it seems to me that coolig system is much more noisy when I use the toshiba power management. If I use win XP default portable power management mode, the computer is much quieter!

    3. is there a way to measure temperatures of system (CPU, MB, GPU, etc...). Previously I have hade a satellite A50 and speedfan (www.almico.com) was able to measure all these parameters.

    Thank you

    Hi Sid

I'll try to answer best I can.

    (1) maybe the system BIOS is not really what the Linux kernel expects and so stops. Please see the Linux very good page of Toshiba:
    http://newsletter.toshiba-tro.de
Maybe you will find some tips on Highway M40 Linux ACPI.

    (2) time MS Toshiba power management and power management is supported by the profiles of school boards. Means that you can set according to your need, how the machine should act. In the Toshiba power management, you have many more opportunities than in the version of Ms. In the Toshiba module, you can choose to have machines operating in performance mode which means that it will give priority to the performance (which normally means of cooling by fan) instead of throttling of the CPU in order to limit heat production.
You can also do the opposite - give priority to silence (fan less and less speed) for the performance.
Of course there are some other settings as well (screen, disk HARD times sleep and so on).
I mean, is that the module from Toshiba is probably set up for performance, which means that you get the fan noise. If you like you can set minimum performance and so less noise. It has its advantage the Toshiba module - it is far better to control of the small parameters and levels of breakdown and time. So, you are in more control of your system.
Sorry for the long lesson - I'm the same at home and he is not popular :)

    (3) sorry - no answer here except that I don't know why anyone would want this. That's enough for me to know that the system controls all of these things by himself and goes off in case of overheating.

  • HP ENVY Phoenix 810-140ea & Linux

Is it possible to buy the DESIRE Phoenix 810 - 140ea without pre-installed Windows and, if this is the case, what is Linux support? (I think to Ubuntu, but I'll go with anything that works distro).

I'm not bothered if it comes with Win8 installed (it will not be on for a long time) as long as the system can run on Linux.

    OnlyTheTony, welcome to the forum.

I can't find the model that you have demonstrated in your message.  However, I have doubts that the computer will be shipped with Linux installed.  I have not seen any of gaming machines what to do.

I used Ubuntu for years.  I always installed on a separate disk from the original Setup.  This gave me the ability to run either OS without having any problems.  You may need to change the BIOS to disable the Secure Boot parameter.  I am not sure that Ubuntu will work with it.  You can go to www.ubuntuforums.org to see what the experts have to say about it.

Please, click on "Thumbs Up +" if I helped you and click "Accept as Solution" If your problem is resolved.

  • TCPdump based on detection of interfaces for IDSM2

When we deploy new IDSM2 blades in various places, we need to ensure that the interfaces of remote sensing have sufficient visibility in social safety nets. To do this, we (security group) depend on the network administrators to configure SPAN, RSPAN, VACL, etc.. Sometimes the initial Setup is done well, but when major changes are made to the switch, the SPAN/VACL config is lost due to human error. Thus, tcpdump is very necessary to ensure that SPAN/RSPAN/VACL etc. as the case may be set up correctly. Another reason I can think of is when the one-way traffic is stride detection IDSM2, not bidirectional interface.

We can use tcpdump on devices by stopping the CIDS ' stop /etc/init.d/cids ' first. Is there a work around to run tcpdump on the IDSM2? What interface linux eth? int7 and int8 correspond to?

    Let me know, thanks.

Try to use 'tcpdump - r' where is the name of the output file to falcondump. -r is an option "read from file" tcpdump.

Falcondump is expected to produce a file "falcondump.pcap" by default; you would feed this file tcpdump with the - r option.

For a detailed analysis, we use Ethereal on a different workstation.

  • How Cloud control knows that "the disk is busy?

Hi all, we are running Oracle 11r2 at work. It resides on a RHEL 5.8 Server, which runs on a San.

iostat and sar using the/proc file system.

don't think that oracle does not depend on iostat and sar or any other tool, but looks like to / proc directly, because it means less dependencies and is easier to implement.

one of the columns above is time spent doing io, btw, if it is sufficient to derive from the use of the disc. See details in iostats.txt, part of the core documentation.

    http://www.kernel.org/doc/documentation/IOSTATS.txt

Now you can ask a question of your team of Linux: "why don't you know this?" :)

    Hello

I'm in charge of the ALSA library in Mandriva.

I've updated the ALSA-lib in 2010,1 repository main/test last week. You seem to have installed this version of libalsa test and found a problem.

Look no further, upstream validations that I took in the library contained a typo. I now took the patch followed upstream.

I have now updated the libalsa available in main/testing 2010.1, so please update and let me know if that solves the problem.

FWIW, if you notice a problem with the packages in the main/testing repository, you should probably first of all contact Mandriva via the bugtracker is a project upstream. The test repository is generally fine, but obviously problems pass through (in this case, I didn't test certain aspects that determine this problem for example).

In addition, if you do want to use the main/test, it is usually best to wait the official updates are published once it has been tested by others.

All the best, (and I hope the update fixes this problem).
