• PCI-GPIB and controller movement legacy Newport Orion-CM - timeout in MAX but not MATLAB

  I kinda a weird GPIB problem which seems to be related to the legacy quirks of implementation of GPIB.  The system I use is an Orion of Newport-CM, which has a controller of electrostrictifs actuator in him as a monitor of power on separate GPIB addresses, but a physical port.  I have it connected via a<= 2m="" cable="" to="" an="" ni="" pci-gpib="" board. ="" i've="" tried="" both="" the="" 2.6="" and="" 2.2="" ni-488.2="" drivers="" and="" both="" act="" the="">

  I found that when I try to query the device through MAX, I can see a SPY OR that the first FindLstn mark 2 units, but expires (probably to try a * IDN? command, because it signals no response).  After that, if I try other commands via MAX or MATLAB, all the GPIB commands time out, so I have to power cycle the Newport before being receptive again.  I tried every permutation of the GPIB driver located in MAX without result - always the same behavior settings.

  Curiously, however, when I use the device only in MATLAB (with the instrument control toolbox), I can have some success, but with delays every now and then are not paralyze the MAX in the same way, it was.  I am able to open the device with:

  mcobj = gpib ('nor', 0, 1);

  fopen (mcobj);

  and query with:

  fprintf(mcobj,'*IDN?');

  data = fscanf (mcobj);

  and get the good * IDN? response.

  In addition, I can do writing and reads the device (with intermittent downtime... I found I need to leave at least 0.3 seconds between commands, which leads to a slow operation).

  It left me speechless.  Of course, it appears the interface GPIB works, maybe slowly, but if I'm not mistaken, the same driver should be usage of communication for MAX and MATLAB, why so MAX time so that I am able to have the operation in MATLAB?  Are there some low level which may be different that I cannot change in MAX or GPIB configuration, but is defined by MATLAB?

  Any thoughts appreciated.  Newport is as usual MOM on obsolete parts, and their job is not much help outside retailer orders GPIB (Nothing on the specifications of the bus).

  Thanks for the tips.  It seems that the old Newport is just really, really slow (must be material and mid-1990 s), so he needs a good break between her send GPIB commands.  I installed the 1.7 legacy drivers, and those at least have correctly the * IDN? the device response.  Gpib MATLAB interface is quite simple you can give sufficient breaks between commands to send to the Newport, so in it, I am able to control the time between orders.

  It seems that it is just a matter of a slow device.  I know not what look like the internal FindLstn characteristics and, therefore, why the new version of MAX expires while the old ones do not, but for really old hardware that there could be GPIB read/write in the new pilot who are too fast to actually really old equipment sufficient time to respond.  Thanks again for the input.

  I have a dos/Windows 95 master of Orion 2 and really desperate male relative.  Is it possible to install this game on a Windows 7 system?   He repeats to me that there is a mismatch due to 64-bit system.  I used the program in the control panel for trying to install programs designed for earlier versions of windows, but the compatibility program was not able to help me.  I also tried the right click on the Setup icon, select properties and change the compatibility of the system, but also the resolution here, but alas no luck.  Thank you!

  If its a DOS game I would suggest using DOSBox.  It's a bit complicated so I won't have a full run down here.  But assuming that this male relative has used BACK before he shouldn't have any problems.

  If it is a real 16-bit Windows application.  Then you could use a Virtual Machine, assuming that your CPU supports the required technology (many do not) and installs an earlier version of Windows on them.  Unless you use the professional version of Windows 7.  Then you can download 'XP Mode' which is a virtual machine that comes with a copy of Windows XP.

  A failure there is a Master of Orion 3 released a few years ago, I'm not on top of my head, if its compatible with Windows 7 64 bit.  But there are also the Sins of a Solar Empire, which is compatible, is a little different, because his real time, but his little near the same concept. :-) Paul Smith - MVP for Windows desktop experience... • Acer laptop computer slows down with Orion running in Vista

  I have the same problem. I use Windows Vista with my Acer and the laptop slows down and ends up hooking up often enough (despite the fact that I updated to 4G). When I did an extinction forced because I could not stop more that once I saw the Orion message runs. If I remove Orion in my system, will hit anything?

• Orion sensor device appear so on Windows 7 PC?

  I see a device called Orion in the sensors of group in Device Manager. I still see it as not active in the Panel. The manufacturer is Microsoft, version ver 0.2.2 Orion. It is unclear if I should enable it or not. And what is this sensor sense?

  I see this on my Dell PC which I don't think has any material like this.
  I also see this on my Toshiba TabletPC that does not have an accelerometer which utility Toshiba OEM use but does not expose the accelerometer as a device in Device Manager "win32".

  (a) did you last changes made on your computer?

  (b) have you recently installed devices?

  Orion detection device: it could be the drive finger or it could be the temperature sensor.

  I suggest you to check any device connected to your computer, external devices sensor. Try to uninstall the device from Device Manager and check what is happening.

  I recommend you contact the manufacturer of the system such that it could be part of their product.

• What i7 processor and graphics card should I expect?

  I have a bit of a dilemma to know what parts of pc I have to buy.

  However, I'm not sure if this processor would be better than getting an i7 5820 k, i7 6700 k or an i7 6800 k or an i7 6850 k. I've read various comparisons which makes it difficult to decide (especially since a large number of comparisons are with games and video editing not).

  I want to make a platform for Premiere Pro and After effects for most. I work with 4 k images and need of something better, but don't break the Bank. I look around to spend as little as possible, but also scalability enough to be cool and trendy. I think of something around $ 1 500-2 $000 for a decent edition pc. I was a little out of touch with the building and train to learn all that is necessary for installation.

  5960 x has 8 cores and tons of stuff with her cooling, others have 6 (and 4 cores * 6700 k). I heard the more hearts best for editing, but the speed of each core must be taken into account without additional cooling system.

  As with a graphics card, I am considering the gtx 970 980 years or because they are quite cheap now (second hand), but would be a gtx 800 * card be enough?

  I want to do a professional job, but I don't want to break the Bank. I'm just a little lost with what would be more beneficial. Having more cores and a gfx card at low prices, or to have a decent processor with a gfx card decent for less * ish. for $1600, which is a good deal, but not sure if it's good for a video editor. =\

  after effects are currently being redone to make it multithreaded. so currently the 6700 k is the fastest, but who will eventually change, and some people use earlier versions of AE for better performance with County Senior core cpu machines.

  for premiere pro, the 6 cpu core is core entry level 4 k, 8 or 10, it's better when the budget allows. I'm not familiar with prices AUD, but looks like it's a good deal. Looks like you still need several parts besides than the gpu to complete construction, unless you already have them, or that they were not in the list. so you should have know if you can complete the build and stay within your budget.

  What gpu you need will depend a lot on how much gpu accelerated fx and the functions that you plan on using. If you can find a gtx used 780, 780ti, 970 or 980 for a good price, they can work very well. If you had one of those (or something more slow) and had poor reading performance, you can still be fine by changing resolution of reading to 1/2 or 1/4 for smoother playback. If you want something more durable, the gtx 1000 series has some features of hdr k 4.

  There is no office gtx 800 series. the closest thing was the the ti gtx 750 and 750. Pudget article shows the gtx 780ti running slightly faster than the 980 with first. the 900 series had a lot of changes that have been for games.

  That is the problem.  I don't want to give this account full administrator permissions to monitor my hosts.   I tried cloning of the Administrators role, but he doesn't let Orion survey CIM hardware stats.  What am I missing why the default role works but not the clone? What is different?

  No upgrade of the OS is minor. Framework can load and existing software may be rendered uselss.

  Apple provides the operating system to developers in advance months to make changes are necessary for the developer to make their decision on what they want to do. Some developers will be in fact stop software for older models and you can not see support for a specific device.   A disk image is a convenient way for a developer to package and deliver the program. Once you have copied the program in your Applications folder, there is no reason to keep. You can safely remove. Note: Make sure that you have copied the image program in your applications folder before deleting.
