ESXi server of the poll with Solarwinds Orion NPM

I'm under ESX1 4.1 U2 and we just bought Orion NPM 10.2.2.  I connected with the success of the host of Orion by the creation of a local on the ESXi host user and give permissions ReadOnly.   It works all fine Orion is the CPU, MEM, survey disks, the virtual machine to its customers, ect...  However the condition of the material shows ' material vote failed: chassis Polling (class CIM_Chassis) has failed.» Unable to establish a session with all the identification information provided" I am able to fix this by assigning the Administrator role to my local user.

That is the problem.  I don't want to give this account full administrator permissions to monitor my hosts.   I tried cloning of the Administrators role, but he doesn't let Orion survey CIM hardware stats.  What am I missing why the default role works but not the clone? What is different?

SNMP is the right answer, because I got exactly the same problem.

  • Access my ESXi server on the NET

    Hello

I just installed a 4 ESXi with vSphere etc server. Now I want to access it remotely at home to complete the configuration.

One of my VM on this new host has a connection through the web with a public IP address (or call us private, but accessible via the internet).

How can I get access to that host on the Net?

    Thank you.

    Vince

As long as your guest computer can communicate with the host you could install the VI client inside the VM guest.  Then whenever you access the VM from all over guest when you open the client Vi and connect to your host.

  • File deleted on esxi system after the restart with the last patch (256968)

    Hello

Since I installed latest patch on esxi (build 256968), every time that I reboot server esxi, I lost the files in / opt and the .ssh folder.

Before this patch, the files were still there on reboot.

Do you have any idea what's going on? Is this a new limitation of free esxi?

I ' am, using this file to VM backup with ghettovcb and everything works fine (until I reload )

    Thank you.

This is provided with ESXi, there is difficulty set of files, including any of the local VMFS volumes that are kept at the restart. There is a cronjob schedule that works for the configuration files important backup automatically at a local bootbank, which is then loaded after the next reboot, all files created by the user and most likely using the Busybox does not support console will not survive a restart by default.

If you use the ghettoVCB.sh - Free alternative for backup of VMS to ESX (i) 3.5, 4.x & 5.x , recommendation would be to store the script and all relevant files is the local VMFS volume or on the shared storage (NFS, iSCSI/FC SAN) volume.

There is a script in "/sbin/auto-backup.sh" that you can actually run to see what files are being backed up, you can easily modify this script to save additional files which will ensure that they are saved on a restart.

  • E-mail of the poll with attachments

    Hi all

I am facing a little problem with the implementation of a service of the OSB.
Our architecture consists of a server OSB (11 GR 1 material) acting as a façade and then connects to a server SOA.
Our goal is, through OSB, query an email inbox to read e-mail attachment and process the data included in these attachments.
We are currently processing the data correctly, but the first step - the email survey - this isn't perfect.

At this moment we have a solution that works.
The proxy service queries the mail inbox (message type of query: binary) and such only configured, send attachments in a folder of archive where is another proxy service (Protocol: file) queries the same folder to treat the attachment.
As I said before, this mechanism works... However, much information is lost (email body, to, cc, bcc, date/time, etc.) and if the OSB allows a Messaging Protocol receive requests, I think of course there must be a better way to deal with emails.

I chose the binary message type of request, because if it was:
    -Text, the content is inside a CDATA container;
    -XML, I would get an error "demarshalling message failed: could not parse XML text;
-MFL, I don't know the structure of the enamel to generate the file conversion.

Is there a way to deal with the (binary attachments, that this is a .zip file) and, at the same time, read the information remains contained?

If you wish additional information about our architecture, or on the solution we have implemented work/wanted to implement, feel free to ask!

    Thanks in advance,
    Bagagem

    Hi Bagagem,

There's an example here... But it's xml if...
    http://beatechnologies.WordPress.com/2011/06/24/triggering-an-OSB-message-flow-with-email/

Text, the content is inside a CDATA container

I think that text should be the way to go, what's the problem with a CDATA container?

The other may info to, cc, bcc will probably come in the headers... Go to the operational parameters of your proxy server and enable tracking of message with full detail, so you can see on the osb server log exactly what is coming...

    I hope this helps...

    See you soon,.

  • ESXi Server and the DMZ security

    Hello world

I currently have around 5 physical web servers sitting in a demilitarized zone. My plan is to convert all these web servers to virtual machines and host them on an ESXi server.

I would like to host the ESXi Server actually in the demilitarized zone, all the VMs on the ESXi box would be public facing anyway. Does anyone know of a good reason not to do from a security point of view.

I guess my main concern would be the area of ESXi being threaten. Of course, I would limit the traffic through the firewall rules.

I would like to know your opinion on this and if someone has done this before?

    Thank you very much

  • Can configure the server from the host with IP address

    Hello

I want to configure a guest computer with 2 network cards, one for LAN private and one for the external LAN.

Right now, the problem is that I don't have that 1 useable public IP I can use on the external network address.

Which means that it's either I configure the public ip address on the NIC host or on the comment card.

May I just know set network bridge on the guest computer and configure the external static public IP, and then click map NETWORK address of the host machine, I set up the ip address. Will this work?

    Please notify.

    shanmomo wrote:

If you mean that by disabling TCP/IP on the host, the guest computer can access external WiFi?

Yes, if you use a Windows host, just uncheck the TCP/IP on the bridged card.

Or use NAT, then both machines can connect to the internet with a single IP.

  • Join the ESXi server to the advantage of the AD domain?

    Hello

What are the advantage of joining the 5.1 U1 to the Windows Active Directory domain ESXi hosts?

is it for the purpose of synchronization NTP?

I'm in the process of migration from the old WIn2k3 box NTP role in one of the virtual WIn2008R2 machine so I was wondering if this is the case.

    Thank you.

    Hello

NTP is one of the advantages of the machine of authenticated domain. Other benefits are the domain-wide authentication (you can connect as a user with elevated privileges, if you are the Member of preset "ESX Admins" domain group, but this name can be changed dynamically) and also VMware Update Manager relies on DNS resolution - you will not be able to update your guests without a reverse lookup.

  • With the help of the POLL with Execute Immediate clause

I wrote a query to update a table and return the column in a variable of type table nested using the return clause but its not working, I am getting error like

    ORA-06550: line 66, column 22:
PLS-00306: wrong number or types of arguments in the call to ' |'
    ORA-06550: line 66, column 4:
    PL/SQL: Statement ignored

I get the error message in part of my request to the suite

    || "RETURN If_row_status in bulk collect INTO"
    || v_if_row_status;

    Referred to as v_if_row_status-
TYPE v_count IS the TABLE OF varchar2 (50) INDEX directory.
    v_if_row_status v_count;

The original message listed error about concatenation, but the code in response to scott.wesley had no concatenation. Have you tried to revise the update process? What is a different issue, unrelated to the first?

The best thing to do would be to create a cursor, loop through it and use a simple update for each row. Updates complex as the one you are trying to use are very difficult to manage. By using a loop to insert/update, you can have control over the process and have access to all values, you must use more later in advance instead of having to use the RETURN clause.

Insert bulk can be more effective, but is difficult to manage for the great updates.

  • A virtual machine or the template with the same name is already registered. Server error: the specified key name or identifier already exists.

    Hi all

I have a 5.5 esxi server just the a virtual machine running at the moment. I try to clone this as shown below:

    http://nchrissos.WordPress.com/2013/04/22/cloning-a-VM-without-vCenter-in-ESXi-5-1-free-edition/

    However, I get the error:

A virtual machine or the template with the same name is already registered. Server error: the specified key name or identifier already exists.

I have no vcenter (yet), and it's just the 1 vm. The virtual machine is turned off. I get this error regardless of the name, I said that when I choose "add to the inventory.

    All advice appreciated.

    Thank you

    Oh dear...
you read bad advice on the internet and then you get also the stupid advice here.

    Ignore both!

If you want to clone a virtual machine by copying - do it like this:

Create new virtual machine with the wizard.
Skip creating a disk for new customers.

In Datastorebrowser copy the original vmdk to the new dir, which has been created by the wizard.
Reopen the new VM and edit - assign the vmdk that you just copied.

  • Access NAS storage of ESXi Server using VMKernel Port?

    Hello

I would like to know the best procedure to connect to the NAS storage of ESXi host 5. I am able to connect to the NAS storage according to the screenshots listed in the link below.

    http://www.tintri.com/blog/2011/11/connecting-vSphere-to-NFS-the-easy-way/

But, I saw different configurations in the past where port dedicated VMkernel is assigned to NAS and all storage goes into network 10 G. I try to do the same and created a VMkernel for NAS port. But I don't think that traffic is going over there as it is not used at all.

I gave the IP address of the ESXi server on the NAS box to get access. I couldn't give address IP VMkernel sideways NAS. How can I make use of this IP VMKernel dedicated NFS storage?

I want to implement the best way to pass NAS 10 G network traffic. In addition, How can I test if storage traffic crosses VMkernel port?

    Suggestions needed.

Virtualinfra is right that you must use a different subnet for NFS traffic. You masked the IP range, so I don't see what you use, but make sure that the vmkernel and storage using a single subnet, not the management subnet. If you get an error, your use of a subnet that goes out the default gateway of the management port, or that you are using the same subnet.

I wrote a few articles on the use of NFS with vSphere: http://wahlnetwork.com/2012/04/19/nfs-on-vsphere-a-few-misconceptions/

Also, make sure that the vmnic can route traffic on that subnet, as in the case of the use of VLANs.

  • ESXi server to Clariion CD120

    Hello

We have a DL580 G5 server on which I have installed the ESXi server. The DL580 has two drives HARD internal for the OS. We have a CLARIION CX120. I downloaded a capture utility from EMC powerlink, and when I try to run the script, I get an error that the script cannot execute the ESXi server and is designed for ESX server only.

Can someone tell me please. Thank you

ESXi does not have a complete console with all Linux commands, and the environment of the shell is very limited.

It is therefore possible that an executable cannot run on ESXi.

You will need to ask EMC if there is a 'ESXi version', or temporally to install full ESX (in test mode), run EMCgrab, one then reinstall ESXi.

  • ESXi connection to the Windows SFU NFS data store

We plan to install 3 servers ESXi with virtual machines hosted on local.  A backup script align the images and move the *.vmx and *.vmdk to a NFS data store located in separate facilities which are connected via fiber.  All connections are links of 1 G.  The NFS data store will be hosted on w2k3 with SFU (Microsoft Services for Unix).

The NFS data store will be a target for cloning and will be located in a building separated for "geographical separation."  I tested with Veema FastSCP (the public beta)... it's ok (30Mbytes/sec).  I assume that the clone process will take about 5 hours - but we can tolerate the performance hit after opening hours.

Question:  Is there a "traps" to know by linking each ESXi server in the same directory NFS exported using SFU?  Perhaps more to the point... no problem with ESXi and Windows SFU?

Before anyone asks... we do this on a 'super-thin budget' (that is to say... $ 0) using existing hardware, otherwise I would have ESX Enterprise and SAN storage!

Some discussions to look at on the performance.

  • ESXi 5.1 configured as a NTP server, do not sync with the Local PC

I have a 5.1 ESXi server configured as an NTP server and a Windows Server 2008 R2 local PC that are not sync.  I understand well, it is not recommended for ESXi, but I read [1] [2] that, whenever an ESXi server is running as a client, it also acts as a server, so I enabled as a NTP client in vSphere by ticking the NTP client, adding some servers to the server list, and then click on run, and I also activated the 123 incoming/outgoing port by adding the shell of ESXi firewall settings.

I'm pretty sure it isn't a firewall problem.  I completely disabled the firewall on my local PC.  Running "w32tm keyboardists computers: - IP address of the server -" give me the time of the server and running the software NTPQuery gives me an answer back on port 123 of the server time.

    I tried:

    - Date/time settings (right-click on notification area-> set date/time-> Internet time-> set as the IP address of the server) - sync fails (* an error has occurred while Windows timed with - server IP-*)

    - Group Policy Editor (Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates administration\systeme\service Time Service, currently disabled but because I heard this causes problems) - synchronization fails

    - The registry editor (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\W32Time\settings) - synchronization fails

    - Command prompt, using:

    w32tm /config /manualpeerlist:-IP of server- /syncfromflags:MANUAL /reliable:yes /update
    net stop w32time && net start w32time
    w32tm /resync /rediscover

This updates the registry properly, but the outputs "the computer did not resync because no time data was available."  And when I use the command "w32tm/query/source" the source is always "The local CMOS clock."

    Any ideas?  Thanks in advance.

Your ESXi server response shows that the leap indicator is 3 and the server stratum is 0.

This means that ESXi NTP server is synchronized and unable to provide a valid reference time to customers.

We recommend that you configure your ESXi host with valid upstream NTP servers such as:

    0.vmware.pool.ntp.org,1.vmware.pool.ntp.org and 2. VMware.pool.ntp.org

as described in the KB article or alternatively your internet service provider NTP servers.

Although not recommended, you can configure ESXi to allow a reference time by using the own system clock

If you can not configure ESXi to synchronize to external NTP servers upstream.

UI, tab Configuration, using software (time setting), properties, Options, and NTP settings.

Specify "127.127.1.0" as your single NTP server. Don't forget to check the box "restart NTP service to apply the changes.

then click OK twice to close the dialog boxes. Wait a few minutes for NTP sync, then try your test.

According to RFC 4330, NTP-SNTP (Simple) customers must not use time in a package of NTP response if the

stratum returned is 0 (and the leap indicator is 3). Apparently, your client Windows NTP Simple is more

    the RFC.

  • What are the methods to ESXi upgrade with 1 single ESXi Server?

The server requires her to get any update through the update maintenance Manager or VMA is not possible that both run on the ESXi server.

What options are left during a server ESXi 4.0 to ESXi 4.1? I can think of root direct-ssh access and the 'host Update Utiliy', even if that fails with errors.

You must use the vCLI, then update the host vihostupdate.pl. Page 55 @ http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vsphere4/r41/vsp_41_upgrade_guide.pdf
