What is reset disk?

I have my recovery disk. I just want to know is my recovery disk can be used as a reset disk. because I forgot the administrator password. This can help to recover?

Hello pam0212,

Are you referring to a recovery CD?

This can be used to bring the machine to the factory specifications.

Please NOTE: using the recovery CD can erase all data on the disk, so it is important to back up all the files that you have in case you need to use it.

Best regards

    Hi George

I have shared your message in its own thread, because the thread that you had responded was very old.

When you create a password for a user account, you have the option to create a password reset disk. It can be created on a floppy or USB key. The file placed on the drive is encrypted.

If ever, you forgot your password, you can use this disk to log on to your account.

    Hello

any body can help me?  I forgot my password to my windows 7.  I have not created a password reset disk!  Is there something else I could do?

What to do if you forget your Windows password

If you have forgotten your Windows password and you are on a domain, you must contact your system administrator to reset your password. If you are not on a domain, you can reset your password by using a reset disk of password or by using an administrator account. For more information, see create a password reset disk or reset your Windows password.

If you forget the administrator password, and you do not have a password reset disk or another administrator account, you will not be able to reset the password. If there is no other user account on the computer, you will not be able to connect to Windows and you will need to re - install Windows.

  • Password reset disk only describes the use of floppy drive A (and they are obsolete). Password reset disk cannot be a CD-DVD, I can use a USB flash instead of the floppy drive?

I wanted to create a RESET DISK of PASSWORD, but NOOOOO - my machine has a FLOPPY DRIVE. No product only the CD/DVD PLAYERS and one cannot change the a drive to a different letter designation.

If you really NEED to do this, you are up the proverbial Creek, apparently.  Hard to believe!   How long has he given now that ANYONE used FLOPPEIES (small square disks)?  Certainly, we are asked not to believe that nobody is realized for this oversight!  I TRIED a CD/DVD - no dice.  My machine has 2 CD/DVD players, a Terrabyte Mobile with a slot drive.  My spouse has built this machine, and it is ensured that there are enough USB connectors that I could plant some tulips!  (It's photography & video editing - retirees have a busy life, that pays well.)  There are sites for readers of any persuasion EXCEPT the 1998 'PLACE floppy DISKS'.  Also, as with most machines, I do not want to return and crush things that my husband has a loading on the drives and call other than the names they bear within the network as things go well, otherwise.  We can't decide to call H Drive (CD/DVD drive), drive A, to say, just for the sake of my need to create a password reset disk.  My machine does not allow me to do things on the "fly".  I have to create a NEW one (and download something from those that already exist).  A ray of light shines through the same mess!  I think that maybe I can use a "USB key"?  Does not have a CD rom, but just explore, I ran across the words using a player instead of 'A' USB flash drive.  Hoping that USB key or "memory stick" is acceptable!

    Hi Janice,.

If you are using Vista, please see the following: http://www.techrepublic.com/blog/window-on-windows/create-a-vista-password-reset-disk-using-a-usb-flash-drive/547.

If using Windows 7, please see the following: http://www.techrepublic.com/blog/window-on-windows/use-a-usb-flash-drive-to-create-windows-password-reset-disk-in-windows-7/4142?tag=rbxccnbtr1.

From what I read, it seems quite simple and easy in both cases.  And not worry about drive letters - it will take whatever drive letter you choose (or who has been assigned to the flash player).

    I hope this helps.

    Good luck!

  • forgot my password for the administrative account.i did not a password reset disk. AlSi o do not have a disk to recover. How can I reset my password or put them on the administrative account? __

I don't remember what my password for the administrative account.i did not a password reset disk.  AlSi o do not have a disk to recover. How can I reset my password or put on the administrative account?

If you have forgotten your password, if you have another user who has administrative privileges account you can log in to that account and change the password of your account of origin of the user accounts applet in Control Panel. If you do not have another account like this set upwards or that you do not have the password which you will need to log on to the built-in Administrator account. In XP Home, start the computer in Mode safe. This, by repeatedly pressing the F8 key as the computer starts. This will put you in the right menu. Navigate using your arrow up; the mouse does not work here. Once in safe mode, you will see the normally hidden administrator account. The default password is white.

In XP Pro, you don't need to go to Safe Mode. In the home screen, do Ctrl-Alt-Del twice to get the classic Windows logon box. Type in "Administrator" and the password that you assigned when you set up Windows.

If you reset the password of the account administrator integrated into house or have Pro and don't remember the password, use NTpasswd to change the password of the built-in to a white administrator account. Download the bootable CD .iso image file, burn with third-party burning software such as free ImgBurn , Nero or Roxio. Burn as an image, not in the form of data. Start with the media that you have created. You need to maybe change the boot order in the BIOS or obtain a menu of boot command temporary with the pressure of a special key. NTpasswd will run. Follow the instructions carefully.

    http://home.eunet.no/pnordahl/ntpasswd/

Then, go to the user accounts applet in Control Panel and set passwords that you remember and other changes. WRITE THE PASSWORDS DOWN AND PUT THEM SOMEWHERE YOU WON'T LOSE THEM.

  • Password reset disk error - "year error occurred while the wizard attempted to set the password for this user account.

    Hello!

-A bit of background: the desktop PC that I use is Windows Vista Ultimate Edition, with active user accounts total five. I have my own account, and I can access the computer through (or through account from my brother, because I know its password).--

I had this problem recently came where the administrator password (that I know for a long time and never changed) no longer works. So, after some research, I created a reset password on a USB disk, that I found in my house. I managed to create the disc, but when I tried to put the new password, I got the message error "an error occurred while the wizard attempted to set the password for this user account', which I must say is not very clear. I found a few methods of force - reset the password for the account of the admin, as using a sort of Windows Vista DVD or go to Safe Mode to find the hidden administrator account... but I have no idea what this DVD is or where to find, and in Safe Mode, there is no account user administrator to be seen. I believe that my machine is corrupted, but I don't want to buy a new. I want just to reset a password...

Any help is appreciated. If I was not specific enough, I can specify in comments.

    Thank you!

    Hello

You must make a password reset disk before that there are problems with a password, not afterwards.

If you are unable to connect to Windows 7 or Windows Vista, you can use the Windows Vista System Restore feature, or the Windows 7 system restore feature.

You may be unable to connect to Windows Vista or Windows 7 in the following scenarios:

    • Scenario 1: You recently set a new password for the protected administrator account. However, you don't remember the password.
    • Scenario 2: You type the correct password. However, Windows Vista or Windows 7 does not accept the password because the system is damaged.
    • Scenario 3: You delete a protected administrator account. Now, you cannot connect to another administrator account.
    • Scenario 4: You change an administrator account protected with a standard user account. Now, you cannot connect to another administrator account.

You can also borrow and use a Microsoft Vista DVD, which contains the files for the different editions of Vista (Home Basic, Home Premium, Business and Ultimate) must be installed. The product key on your computer / Laptop box determines what Edition is installed.

Other manufacturers recovery DVDs are should not be used for this purpose.

    Hello

There is a difference between "deleted" and forgotten, as the particular user account is password protected or it is not.

If this is not applicable and you forgot, you need to reinstall the operating system.

  • can you make a password reset disk on a computer and use it on another using the same operating system?

One of my friends has forgotten his password and I was wondering if I could make the password reset disk for him?

A password reset disk only works on the computer, on which it was made.

If you have forgotten your Windows password and you are on a domain, you must contact your system administrator to reset your password. If you are on a working group (the majority of individuals are on a working group), you can reset your password by using a reset disk of password or by using an administrator account.

  • Password reset disk wizard wants to use Drive F - I don't have an F drive

Desktop HP Pavilion p6610f Windows 7 Home Premium 64 - bit installed Just the new hard drive and all the new updates and new programs etc.  I created the repair disk system and a full backup and wante to create a password reset disk. When I click on 'Create a password reset disk' in the control panal and I begin to follow the wizard, it asks me to put a key memory in drive F.  I don't have USB keys or disks if that's what is meant.  I was going to use a DVD - RW disc, but of course, I am unable to do so.  Why does say to create a 'DISC' in one place, and then when I go there, it says that I have to use a 'KEY' 'DRIVE F "?  If I buy a USB flash drive, which is identical to a key memory? And... I have several USB ports, none of them can be used with the USB to store data or memory?  I looked in the 'Help' section and he said just to click on "create a 'Disk' password reset. Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.

Thank you for your time, but I already did the cover, back, vision of diagnostics and repair of disks.  I just asked why, when it is suggested that I create a 'PASSWORD' reset disk, when I start to do exactly that, the wizard tells me that I have to use a USB, 'NO' a 'DISC' and use the 'F' reader which I did not, (I don't think), I mean I know there are additional slots for disks , but I don't think I have other than those that I used to do the other ' Just discs in case where.  Just curious.  I have resigned myself to not do a. I wrote my password on a piece of paper and taped it on the underside of the top of a desk, where nobody would ever think to look.
