What is steam?

What should I do when the message box appeared "steam must be running to play this game.'?

Hello

Steam is a digital distribution, digital rights management, multiplayer and communications platform developed by Valve Corporation. It is used to distribute games and online media, a small independent developers to major software houses. One of the ideas behind it to help the fight against hacking game videa. For many games you need to have a Steam account, and it is thanks to this that you authenticate using your account for steam and the game knows that it is used legally.

The site of the steam is:

http://store.steampowered.com/

From there, you can find more information, download Steam and sign up for an account.

I hope this helps.

Recently I got COD MW2 for Christmas and it was great, but now I've upgraded to Windows 7 64 bit and I can not install steam because of a compatibility error. He says I tinker with the compatibility settings in steam.exe what do I do?

    Hello Bloodfest Maniac.

I guess that you have a copy of Modern Warfare 2 steam?  By upgrading your computer to Windows 7 64-bit, do you mean you actually perform an installation upgrade on Windows Vista 64-bit.  If you did, I suspect you could get better results by properly installing the operating system.

For what is steam on 64 - bit systems.  It should work fine, plus 25% of Steam users use 64-bit, and most of those who use Windows 7.  The first thing I would try would be to close all applications running in the background, such as antivirus software and make sure that you are not actually running steam with compatibility settings will be only unnecessarily confuse issues like it * must * install and run fine without their use.  Except that if you have disabled UAC or disable lately which could be the cause of the problems, I would recommend just leaving him on how applications will maintain their State in one place. You receive a message that States that a hardware device is being installed, and then the not installed audio device appears in Device Manager.

Yes, you can delete the program steam installed on the computer. It won't affect other programs.

Hello Nickydwuk.  Well, it's a bit difficult to know exactly what is happening from your description, I assume you're raising steam when he asks?

If you are uncomfortable with the head on registry:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Installer

Check to see if there is a key named DisableMSI.  If there is, and the value 1 to zero.  If this isn't the case, something is blocking the installation.

  • Steam.exe(main_exception):error:Delete of steam.exe failed, Win32 Error5 "access denied."

I get the error that is displayed in the title line when you try to install the application of steam for the game Left4Dead. Just in case where the window title does not display the full error message:

    Steam.exe(main_exception):error:Delete of steam.exe failed, Win32 Error5 "access denied."

My system specs are as follows:

    MB: ASUS P6T DELUXE Version2
    CPU: i7 950 QUAD-CORE 3.06GHz
GC: XFX RADEON HD 4890 1 GB
RAM: Patriot 12 GB Triple Channel Lat7
HARD drive: WD VelociRaptor 150 GB 10K rpm
HARD drive: Samsung Dual RAID Class 1 TB
HARD drive: dual Seagate Barracuda 500 GB
    PWR: COOLMAX 1200 Watt
CASE: Aplus Black Aluminum ATX Full Tower
    OS: Vista Ultimate 64-bit

I checked my system and performed the following tasks to try to resolve the problem:
My version of Windows is up-to-date. I have no problem hardware or exceptional driver. I tried to temporarily disable my antivirus to complete the installation, this does not solve the problem. I tried to install it as a system administrator. I searched the site of Valve/steam software for a solution, none were found (http://store.steampowered.com/). I searched the database of Microsoft for a solution, none were found. I'm having no problem with other games or applications that were loaded on that computer. The problem is only with the application steam.exe and any game that requires the application of steam to the function.
    I came across the following link which has promised to solve the problem;
    http://www.bing.com/search?mkt=en-us&q=steam%20error%20Win32%20error%205
    https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=5322-QYZB-5344
I followed the instructions at three times, all with the same error message.
The default program is responsible for the following: C:\Program Files (x 86) \Steam.
I tried to load the program on different hard disks and got the same error code.
I have triple checked all user profiles to make sure that the appropriate privileges have been set (Admin). I checked all the steam program elements to ensure that they have been set to run as a program director executed. I double checked that proper TCP/UDP ports are open for the application of the steam function. http://www.resoo.org/docs/Counterstrike/steam_ports.html
Any help to fix this would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello Platinum,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Vista Community Forums.

This error is primarily caused by a lack of permissions for the user, having the Steam.exe file attributes set to 'Read only', or by another program interferes with the installation of Steam process (if the steam client application has been updated to a version that was not included in your package of Steam, Steam will download a new copy of itself and then delete the old file Steam.exe except when another program interferes).

    1. check your Windows user permissions.
Please ensure that you are logged on as administrator on the computer that you use to install Steam.
    2. check the file attributes
    3. right click on the file Steam.exe, which was created after running the Steam Installer, and then select Properties
4 uncheck the read-only box if it is checked and hit apply before closing the window
    5. try running the Steam.exe file once more
    6. check the settings of your security software

If you are running an antivirus, firewall or any product safety program that may interfere with the removal and replacement of the file Steam.exe (some security software will check information of a file whenever it is changed and block the automatic replacement of files) Please check your settings for the program and ensure that you are prompted to authorize activities that may trigger the security software.

Remove spyware, Adware and virus software and try to run the installation again.

In addition to the steps above, follow these steps:
    1. go in C:/Program Files/Steam /.
    2. right click on Steam.exe and go to properties.
    3. click on the Compatibility tab.
    4. check run as administrator and click OK.
    5. then I deleted StemeTemp (or something like that. the steam icon).
    6. then run Steme.exe again.

    It will be useful.
