What Lily 'Spotlight '?

I just changed my PC to iMac and now everytime I open Thunderbird, I get a pop-up box that asks about "spotlight" and now I see a top left of the page tab when I read/write messages that says "spotlight."

Spotlight is a feature of desktop search - Apple's OS X system-wide.

The recommended method for re-index/reconstruction is to open Spotlight preferences panel in system preferences, click on privacy. Now add the drive that you want to re - index to privacy window. Now delete this same player of the Privacy window, and it will now be indexed/rebuilt. No necessary terminal command.

  • What is the "Spotlight" supposed to be for?

    Hello

instructions for how to apply to get your app featured (https://developer.blackberry.com/appworld/faq - point 13) list a requirement for an image of "Spotlight" to 340 x 340 pixels.

This applies to the PlayBook applications? If so, can someone explain where this image arise?  I have to submit a "descriptive" 1920 x 1186 on presentation and in the app PlayBook AppWorld thus AppWorld on the carousel Web I see only pictures in landscape format not used, no square image. So I'm not sure what to create for px image 340 x 340 - another version of my icon? or something more postery? ...

    Thanks for any help

My app: Get set - get up!   Get ready for the revolution snooze.

I am quite sure that those who were the former requirements of 340 x 340 before the new layout of the app world. When I submitted my app will be described, I used the image of 1920 x 1186. Just present that one and you should be fine.

  • My keyboard is lagging now that I have updated to iOS 10... What do I do to fix it?

I've just updated to iOS 10 and is now experiencing a delay when I try to use my keyboard in any application.  What should I do about it?  It's super annoying because I can't type messages in real-time...

My guess is that your iPhone is currently slow because Spotlight indexes. As far as I know always doing just that after major updates. Once it is finished, it should be fine.

In the same goes for the Mac after incidentally.

You can also reduce the possibilities of research Spotlight.

To do this, go to settings > general > Spotlight search and check (or rather to disable) the stuff that crosses Spotlight search. Indexing will take less long in this way.

  • Spotlight doesn't show place

    Hello

I don't use much Spotlight for research because it does not show the location of what you are looking for while does search window thingy in the upper right.

    Or am I missing something?

    The best

    Elmer

Spotlight does not show the location.

Try the Finder window. Type the name of your hard drive high to the right of the window.

I see that you started multiple discussions on the same issue > elmerlang

And that makes it more difficult to help you. It is best to stay with a discussion.

  • Search files that are never with Spotlight

I recently consolidated three hard drives, and I now have to buy an even bigger because the 3 TB external hard drive I use now is full, completely filled (volume: 3,000,592,977,920;) Used space: 3,000,592,977,920). It surprises me because he wasn't like this once I have completed the consolidation, but I have to accept it. In any case, after I bought a 5 TB model, I'm still having the problem that the files that it contains are not included as I expected them to be. What I have now is a hard disk file another one disk hard B, and yet another one disk hard C. Spotlight will not all, just an index. This means that I'll have to search separately by each of the hard disks and Spotlight will only help me with one of the three files, unless there is a program that will index all three. Is there such a program? What about EasyFind? Find any file? Found? Others?

Not sure what you mean. I have three external HD connected to one of my iMac and Spotlight indexed all three.

  • Spotlight doesn't index

    Hello

I've been running El Capitan fine since output without any problem, and Spotlight worked very well. In recent weeks, all of a sudden Spotlight is no longer indexes. I have no idea of what has changed - I have not install new software or make changes. The "Indexing" bar is about 5% complete and has been there for > 2 weeks. Some files appear in Spotlight searches, such as apps, but no longer. Therefore, I cannot search for files, and especially impossible to search the old emails in Outlook 2016, which is a major issue for me.

Things I tried (some several times):

-Addition of my HD to the "Privacy" tab in Spotlight preferences, then disconnected

    -Restart

    -Reinstall El Capitan

    -Removed com.apple.Spotlight.plist, reboot

    -Removal of FileVault

--Redemarrer restart in Safe Mode, run the disc utilities

It is so frustrating and made my Mac practically unusable, because Outlook mail is my main application. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  • Inconsistent results Spotlight

I've known inconsistent results of Spotlight with OS X servers for a year or so now. I worked on that with Yosemite and El Capitan.

What is happening is that Spotlight does not see inside some files scattered in various actions. The problem is consistent if the search of a customer attached or on the server itself. It has many, many of these records.

I deleted it. Index files V100-focus on volumes several times with the following process:

    sudo mdutil - a-i off

sudo rm - rfv. Spotlight-V100 (I run on each volume)

    sudo mdutil - a-i on

    sudo mdutil - Ea

However after letting the Spotlight re-indexing it does not fix things.

I think next reset the ACL on the volume where the data is stored. I first want to make sure that what I'm doing, that's enough:

    sudo chmod-r/path/to/volume n

Then set the permissions for the shares as it should.

    Suggestions or comments?

You happen to have the system during a rebuild Spotlight log tail?  If Yes, have you seen errors, files or records which failed to index, or all mdworker default processes?  The system log can provide valuable data as to why Spotlight does not complete.

Then, if you are going to strip the ACL, you will also remove user _spotlight.  This system is essential for the proper functioning of the projector.  Make sure that when you go to spread your new ACLs that account _Spotlight is listed as an ACE inherited.  All files and folders on your part must contain this account from the ACL table service.

And finally, don't forget to watch the POSIX permissions.  If you have restrictive permissions POSIX, you may have implemented a condition in which the mdworker process simply can not cross your data structure.  Search for files located at 700 or files located at 600.  Perhaps considered using the propagation process to restore all the POSIX permissions standard umask.

    I hope this helps.

  • El Cap Spotlight has become invasive?

I've been a strong supporter OSX for a long time now, I even convinced my company to convert all the engineering of Windows / Linux environment of MacBooks.  It was in 2005, so our software developers use OSX more than 10 years now.

I would like to know how Apple, #1 for design of interface for maximum efficiency considerations, has fallen so low that a tool to use fast like the spotlight, in a pane in the center of the screen, BLOCKING of information we're looking for, make calculations on, etc.  It's completely pervasive.  I can move it, but I can't resize it, and I can't make albums taking up most of the screen.

Trying to do quick math (a my favorite features of the projector) quickly of the results in spotlight blocking the data you want to analyze.  Calculator of shooting and hunting it around behind windows is how we did it BEFORE this projector... and it sucked! Do not go back.

The third party who wrote an app that duplicates the functionality of the old projector will make a lot of money.

Anyone has any advice on how to get it under control?

  • Stuck at Spotlight indexing

My MacBook Air (13-inch, early 2015, bought in September 2015), started the battery and overheating (temp CPU to 80 ° C), but fun to 1300 RPM in the last days. He also became slow, simple things like put YouTube video to play in full screen would freeze this tab and sometimes entire Safari. I got about 20 tabs open in Safari, and nothing else, but most of the time I have many more tabs and other programs that are running and it works. Several reboots and a SMC reset din't help.

Today, I noticed that when I use the projector there is a progress bar indicating the indexing. Also, I noticed that high CPU usage (so slow performance and overheating) is caused by a few mdworker and mds_stores process. These processes are used for indexing, so I let it run all by checking from time to time of the progress bar. Once I watched the progress bar amounts to 30% and a few minutes after his return at first. He continued like that for a while.

I did some research and found this: rebuild the index Spotlight to your Mac - Apple Support. When I put the disk hard Macintosh in the use of Spotlight Privacy tab CPU is back to normal and battery stopped draining. But I couldn't let Macintosh HD here because I use Spotlight much so I took it from there. After that I did this renewed Spotlight from indexing, but after leaving it for awhile, it just goes forward, jumps back and continues like this circle.

What should I do Spotlight could be successfully completed indexing?

Try the procedure suggested here: http://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/1072/spotlight-indexing-appears-stuck-w hat-can-i-do

But be very careful with the necessary controls in the Terminal!

  • mdworker crashes constantly; Spotlight re-indexes

I searched the internet and all communities, trying to find a solution to my problem of focus. I have posted in some other forums and re - write here in a way more organized these positions as well as additional information.

I recently moved my administrative user account to a former mac via firewire/lightning connection, using the application of migration. Since that time, my iMac, with the last update of El Capitan, has been continuously indexing. It takes hours (I transferred about 500 GB of files), then works OK for a short time and then starts again indexing. I have my hard drive moved into the party 'private life' Spotlight preferences and back, causing the re-indexing. I deleted the Spotlight index and was re - index by terminals of disc used to check my hard drive, used Onyx to rebuild the permissions and Utility Spotlight re-indexing. Spotlight takes a few hours to re - index, seems to work fine for a short period and then begins the reindex operation and is not available for use once more. It completely slowed down my work to a crawl, since I use Spotlight continues to extract and compare files and folders, as well as launch applications.

I noticed on the newspapers of crash mds_stores crashes and have had the crash mdworker almost everyday. SophosWebintelligence crashed on similar, but not always the same days. I deleted the software anti-viral Sophos, placed my hard drive in the section "Confidentiality" of Spotlight prefs to stop continuous indexing, started in safe mode, rebooted my desktop computer, from my hard drive out of the privacy settings, authorized Spotlight AGAIN index my drive hard for the night and thought that my problem was resolved. It lasted a day. It is now the reindexing and crash newspapers are mds_stores crashed again, but now, looking at the Console during indexing, mdworker hangs mili-second per second mili! Under diagnostic reports from users, it lists mdworker_2016 - 06 - _Dorks (several times) - iMac.crash on and under the diagnostic system reports lists mds_stores_2001 - 06-(plusieurs fois) _Dorks - iMac.crash. I also noticed that in the newspapers:

30/06/16 7:10:46.589 AM mdworker [9839]: warning: the selector Gestalt gestaltSystemVersion returns 10.9.5 instead of 10.11.5. This isn't a bug in Gestalt - it is a documented restriction. The NSProcessInfo operatingSystemVersion property to get the correct version number of system.

    Location of the call:

Not sure that the above is the thing most relevant in the newspapers, but never had any problems on my most recent mac until I made the mistake to migrate my account from my old mac user. Don't know what NSProcessInfo is, but you do a search.

If anyone has any suggestions, they would be very appreciated. If any additional info would be useful, I would be happy to do so. I didn't want to post too much useless here and unnecessarily take too much of your time. I apologize for the changes of fonts, but could not figure out how to copy and paste while keeping the same style.

The first step is to get rid of "Sophos," which could be the cause of the problem and that is certainly worse than useless.

Please remove the 'Sophos' product by following the instructions on this page, so this one, if any. If you have a different version, the procedure may be different.

Back up all data before making any changes. Never install a software "anti-virus" or "anti-malware" again.

  • How restore/recover deleted notes (which also appears in the spotlight search)?

OK so here's what happened, I was normally using my iPhone 5 (ios 9.3.2) so I decided to go to the notes... and then all of a sudden the notes app crashed and when I opened it again, all my NOTES DISAPPEARED. I don't know what caused this problem, but I know that my iPhone had full accumulation in time.

But when I tried to search for deleted notes, I noticed they were still burst into the spotlight search, but every time I press it, it just opens the notes app and that's all...

Is there anyway to restore my notes, because they are very important... Any answer would be useful (I'm desperate)

P.S. I do not have a backup icloud, or computer

Without a backup, my hope for you is that these notes had been managed by an email service, and most of the time, they are even if the user is not aware of this. Check that all your related email accounts work correctly on your iPhone. If you have access to a computer, it can be useful to compare what is on your iPhone for what you see in your email account on the Web site of the account. So for gmail, you would go to gmail and access notes. Yahoo, you would do the same.

I strongly suggest you keep regular backups for situations like this. Backup your iPhone, iPad and iPod touch - Apple Support

If your notes are managed by iCloud, you can contact Apple for support and service - Apple supported. You can then ask to speak with security accounts and request their assistance in the recovery of all notes iCloud can successfully and have been deleted somehow. A backup is not required for this synchronization service.

I realize see your notes in the Spotlight can be a head scratcher, but Spotlight is indexed to refer to files in their original location. Think of it as these shortcuts you can do on your desktop. You click on the shortcut and it will take you to the respective application that would hold this content. In this case, it would be the notes you see is empty. Spotlight, itself, is not keep these notes.

  • How to get the button "Search Web" on all spotlight searches?

I have an iPhone running iOS 9.3.2,and 6s and something that I noticed is that I no longer get the "Web search" button for all of my spotlight search. Here are some photos to show you what I mean.

In this first photo, I typed in 'claire underwood house of cards' and should reach the "Web search" button at the bottom so that the query could be entered into Google as any other search. However, I noticed that this button is not pop up for stretched from the search terms such as "claire underwood house of cards" in the way which he used to. I don't know if this is perhaps the result of an update, but I don't see the button more. I could easily just go into Safari and type it in, but it is not as intuitive.

If I type in a shorter like simply "claire underwood' search, as shown in the second picture below, I get a lot of results, as well as the button"Search Web". I used to be able to enter anything on stage and immediately search the Internet which is much faster. No idea how to solve this problem?

Figured it out. For some reason when I got Bing Web enabled in Spotlight search results, it would not view long queries and leave the field blank. It turned off but kept the other apps I like to search and it works perfectly. I didn't care much for Bing, but it should be fixed. Now it makes it easier to just search Google directly from the home screen.

  • Spotlight display Simplified Chinese results in the dictionary

Repost it here, since I apparently posted the question in the wrong place a few days ago.

Title says it all really. Whenever I have look up definitions in the dictionary of projector, there are 75% chance I will get results in simplified Chinese (and a 5% chance I'll get the results in Spanish instead).

My entry from Danish into English switching does not seem to solve the problem, but then again I don't want really to i rather like having my ae, o and a being readily available.

It starts to be quite the problem, since I used to often look up words featured every time that reading a text as necessary by lifting.

I tried to validate fonts, I deleted all the languages I have not used, I followed suggestions found here, in addition to removing dictionaries--and that's only because I can not find anywhere dictionary files.

    Any help would be appreciated.

When you say "My switching input", I assume you mean the keyboard layout. I can't think * that * would have an impact on the results of a spotlight search.

What do you do the settings in the system-> region and language preferences?

  • Spotlight grasp my hard drive

Spotlight only looks at the internet and does not search my hard drive.

I tried to reindex but that doesn; "t work either

It is a diagnostic procedure. It makes no changes and therefore, by itself, will not solve the problem.

I tested these instructions only with the Safari browser. This is what I suggest you use, even if your favorite browser is something else.

Must be run as administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.

    Step 1

Please triple - click anywhere in the line below on this page to select:

    { mdutil -as 2>&-; echo; mdimport -L 2>&1; echo; syslog -F \$Message -k Sender mdworker -o -k Message Rne Norm -k Sender mds -o -k Sender sandboxd -k Message Seq mdutil | tail -100 | sort | uniq | tail -50; } | pbcopy

Copy the selected text in the Clipboard by pressing Control-C key combination.

Launch the Terminal application integrated in one of the following ways:

☞ Enter the first letters of his name in a Spotlight search. Select from the results (it should be at the top).

☞ In the Finder, select go utilities ▹ of menu bar or press the combination of keys shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.

Paste in the Terminal window by pressing the command-V key combination. If you use another browser, you may need to press the return key after pasting.

The command may take a significant amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending with a dollar sign ($) to appear.

The output of the command will be automatically copied to the Clipboard. If the command produces no output, the Clipboard is empty. Paste into a reply to this message.

The Terminal window does not display the output. Please do not copy from there.

If any personal information appear in the output, anonymize before posting, but do not remove the context.

    Step 2

Launch the Console application in the same way that you launched Terminal. In the Console window, see INFORMATION on the DIAGNOSTIC USE AND on the left for reports of incidents related to a spot. If you do not see this position, select

List of newspapers seen ▹ display

in the menu bar. A crash report Spotlight has a name beginning in "mds," "mdworker", or "mdwrite" and ending in ".crash". Select the most recent report, where appropriate, sub-categories of system and user and view all content - the text, please, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you change the UUID ' anonymous, ' a long string of letters, numbers and dashes in the header of the report, if it is present (it cannot be). "

Please do not post another type of diagnostic report, such as hang in the newspapers - they are very long and not helpful.

When you post the results, an error message may appear on the web page: "you have included content in your post that is not allowed", or "the message contains invalid characters." It's a bug in the forum software. Thanks for posting the text on Pastebin, then post here a link to the page you created.

If you have an account on Pastebin, please do not select private in exposure menu to paste on the page, because no one else that you will be able to see it.
