Spotlight grasp my hard drive

Spotlight only looks at the internet and does not search my hard drive.

I tried to reindex but that doesn; "t work either

It is a diagnostic procedure. It makes no changes and therefore, by itself, will not solve the problem.

I tested these instructions only with the Safari browser. This is what I suggest you use, even if your favorite browser is something else.

Must be run as administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.

Step 1

Please triple - click anywhere in the line below on this page to select:

{ mdutil -as 2>&-; echo; mdimport -L 2>&1; echo; syslog -F \$Message -k Sender mdworker -o -k Message Rne Norm -k Sender mds -o -k Sender sandboxd -k Message Seq mdutil | tail -100 | sort | uniq | tail -50; } | pbcopy

Copy the selected text in the Clipboard by pressing Control-C key combination.

Launch the Terminal application integrated in one of the following ways:

☞ Enter the first letters of his name in a Spotlight search. Select from the results (it should be at the top).

☞ In the Finder, select go utilities ▹ of menu bar or press the combination of keys shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.

Paste in the Terminal window by pressing the command-V key combination. If you use another browser, you may need to press the return key after pasting.

The command may take a significant amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending with a dollar sign ($) to appear.

The output of the command will be automatically copied to the Clipboard. If the command produces no output, the Clipboard is empty. Paste into a reply to this message.

The Terminal window does not display the output. Please do not copy from there.

If any personal information appear in the output, anonymize before posting, but do not remove the context.

Step 2

Launch the Console application in the same way that you launched Terminal. In the Console window, see INFORMATION on the DIAGNOSTIC USE AND on the left for reports of incidents related to a spot. If you do not see this position, select

List of newspapers seen ▹ display

in the menu bar. A crash report Spotlight has a name beginning in "mds," "mdworker", or "mdwrite" and ending in ".crash". Select the most recent report, where appropriate, sub-categories of system and user and view all content - the text, please, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you change the UUID ' anonymous, ' a long string of letters, numbers and dashes in the header of the report, if it is present (it cannot be). "

Please do not post another type of diagnostic report, such as hang in the newspapers - they are very long and not helpful.

When you post the results, an error message may appear on the web page: "you have included content in your post that is not allowed", or "the message contains invalid characters." It's a bug in the forum software. Thanks for posting the text on Pastebin, then post here a link to the page you created.

If you have an account on Pastebin, please do not select private in exposure menu to paste on the page, because no one else that you will be able to see it.

  • How can I search for files on my external hard drive WD My Passport, using spotlight?

    Hello

I bought my first apple product, a MBP of the retina and has opened and updated at the El Capitan 10.11.6 a few hours ago.

I need exclusively for music (traktor and ableton) and research songs and samples is essential.

First slap my face was when I read on school drop-outs and questions with traktor and every update after that Yosemite 10.5 and I could have downgrade to it, even if I have no idea how.

Second slap in the face and the question, I'm looking for help, was when I started to use spotlight to find the pieces of my external WD My Passport hard drive, only to discover this method of index (confidentiality, etc.) does not work and that there may be no solution for this problem.

Can I do to solve this problem permanently? Any other tool of research, I can use instead of spotlight which will do the work?

I was really happy with this purchase, but I have my doubts now and I'm starting to think that I have spent a fortune for nothing.

Please, if you have any suggestions, explain in detail because I'm not familiar with the Apple OS.

  • Complete hard drive well messages have a lot of space.

    Hello world

IM using a MacMini 2012 with 16 GB of RAM and a 500GB HDD stock.

I don't know what to do. My MacMini gives me error messages all the time say that my HARD disk memory is full - but it isn't.

I already emptied the trash. I was transferred to GB´s videos on an external HARD drive. Sometimes, the memory is more and what is reduced without having done anything.

Today I had 1, 76 GB of free memory and wile watching a video the same 'lack of HARD disk space"message.

The amounts also vary a lot. Yesterday he showed me 210 GB of videos (green) - today after the transfer not 10 GB of videos, it says now that I just left 12 GB and the difference is now on color (yellow) data.

    Can someone help me please...

Hope I explained myself good enough.

  • Mini Mac server - attachment of external hard drives file transfer speed

    Hi guys!

I wanted to increase the speed and storage capacity to transfer to my Mac mini file, so I bought a box of external hard drives. The one I bought is: http://www.icydock.com/goods.php?id=219

Built-in the Mac mini hard drives transfer the file to 60 MB/s (writing and reading) and I wanted to get better speed of file transfer, so I bought an SSD that is going to be inside with an another HARD drive of 3 TB for archiving my files. The housing is connected by USB3.0 (5 Gb/s) for the Mac mini.

    [SSD-> files I opened every day] - speed around 550 MB/s write and 500 MB/sec in reading

[HDD-> Archives, files that I have does not open very often] - speed around 150 MB/s write and 150 MB/sec in reading

So I did some benchmarks on my new Setup, and the speed is not really what I expected. Transfer of file max speed I have achieved is about 100 MB/sec in writing on the external SSD plugged into the mac mini. This transfer has been filed since an iMac 21 "2011 with an SSD (with almost the same speed read/write than the box) so it's quite disappointing.

It is possible that the Mac has a 'file transfer speed limit' is somewhere? Or whatever else that could affect that?

    More information on my setup:

One of my more frequent needs is to search for an e-mail message. Suppose I know that a message from Mabel or at an uncertain date contained the information I need. Is it possible to type "Mabel" in a search engine for each mention of the same name throughout my external hard drive?

That sums it up. This is an example of the only way to find data that I would find useful: minimum words, and then click.

Yes, it should work, but with a modification.

First confirm that system preferences > Spotlight > search results > Mail & Messages is checked ON.

When you add the search term in a Finder window search field, select the Mac before you click to start the search. Only this option to search through all the disks and volumes.

I've never been able to use my external hard drive for the purpose for which it was intended: find things and recover. Maybe there is a better way.  Is there a program that would allow me to print a visible index/Graph/chart of the hard drive? I mean some sort of table or chart that shows where everything is? I tell everything. Music, photos, e-mail and all the rest. Indeed, in order to extend the idea elsewhere, perhaps also a Microsoft graph chart / in an electronic format that would allow you to find things by moving the cursor over the electronic/chart table. Yes, something like probe the brain with a spindle to produce souvenirs of a long time ago, I'm serious. Right now, I'm looking for a lot of things that I see now are not in my computer. I mean, I want to type the name of poem, the Narrator, or the name of the album and locate the records immediately. I found on the side of 2 (each record is one side of an LP), but I can't find the other 13 sides.

Basically what the title says. • How to free space on the hard drive?

Hello, in my "On Mac" section, it says I 233 MB of space on my 121 GB of Flash storage. Previously, I thought it was video files, but it was buggy mac section. I refreshed, hoping he would show me how much space I had left, but he stayed the same. That is the problem. I use my macbook for College written work and - maximum - work on Adobe Creative Suite. When I work on these I use a separate USB key due to the size of the files.

The only files I have actively created/downloaded on my macbook are the files in the files of my 'Documents', 'Pictures' and 'Applications '. When I use "Get Info" on each, I see that my photo folder is great, My Documents folder is large 1.17 GB and my Applications folder is large 14,68 GB 889,9 MB. These are the only files that I use and backup the files needed for my Macbook running and working properly, the only files I want to keep.

My question is, basically, if there is a way to lose all the files on my hard drive that are not necessary to keep. I'm not too good when it comes to computers, so I don't want to not just randomly start deleting things. Just to get these road, my garbage can is completely empty and I have nothing in my downloads folder. I have also no large files to film and, when I searched my Macintosh HD for files larger than 500 MB, there is no evidence, so I guess that this is caused by a large amount of small files (I tried to restrict research naturally but then come files that I wasn't sure of what they have done and therefore have not removed the still). If it helps, my about Mac filed 100,64 GB of my free space as 'other '. But I know that is not how much space was taken when I got the Macbook earlier this year and it should not be the size of the files that comes with it by default. There is also a way to restore all the files on my macbook at their stage of default, that I would also be interested, especially if there is a way to do it without rid of files I already have.

I guess that's a very basic question, can someone help out me?

    1. never remove all the files that you do not understand the purpose. If you do, it's like opening the hood of your car and take bits out of the engine ebcause you think they are not necessary.

    2. it seems more likely that you must rebuild your Spotlight index.

    See the following page:

  • MacBook Air missing hard drive space

I noticed that the free space on the hard drive on my Macbook Air has been quickly disappear even if I had not been adding lots of new files, certainly not enough to account for the 10s of gigabytes that disappeared last week. I cleaned it of useless media files, which gives him another 20 GB of space. The status bar it reflects accurately at first, but when I started the computer this morning, it had lost 30 GB of this adjustment.

After you run WhatSize DaisyDisk, I see that they have both claim that my Air uses Go 296, which is in agreement with the about this Mac, but when you look at the size of the actual folders, there is no way that they measure is added to this amount.

Using Get Info, I got the following:

    14.43 applications gb

    Users 42,45

    System of 7.77

    Library of 8.95

That all adds up to about 74 GB of used space. WhatSize actually gives me different numbers. Where in the world are the other 220 or so lack of gbs? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

(Note: although I typed this out, I noticed that about 8 GB of free space have disappeared in the status bar)

Here are a few screenshots of WhatSize and disk utility. Of THE claims that 'other' includes 283 GB, but I can't understand what is included in whatever measure it as 'other '.
