What's this line by image linked clone

Hello, yesterday I create a ViewPool with the Images of LinkedClone and after that I created the pool there is also a Maschiene of VM with the name "replica-cbb..." "for what is this maschien vm? (see the screenshot)

I can't start this machine, but I can remove it.

If I delete this maschine related clones other VMs works without problems?

Why was this created Maschine?

I seek answers in the VIEW of ADMINISTRATION GUIDE and the GUIDE of INSTALLATION of VIEW but I can't find anything.

Thank you very much for your answers.

  • What is this line dotted on the network map?

I'm just curious as to what this line dotted on the network map?

    Hello

According to the description of the problem, I understand that you are asking some about the network card and dotted line. I've certainly you will help answer your query.

The following diagram illustrates a typical presentation of home network with several computers and other devices connected to each other through several components of the infrastructure and to the Internet via a router.

The network map lets you see the devices on your local subnet, and how they are connected to each other and to the Internet. The computer on which you build the map is displayed in the upper left corner. Other computers on your subnet appear on the left. Infrastructure devices, such as switches, hubs, and gateways to other networks to appear on the right.

The green line indicates the device you are currently using in the visualization of the network card. The solid line indicates a wired connection, while the dotted lines indicate that the device is connected through the radio.

  • What does this line mean

    Hello

Can someone explain this line for me - I know what he does: it displays VM and store data that they are in but what happen exactly when the code is executed - not sure what this part means to all @{N = "Datastore"; E={$_ | Get-Datastore

    Get - VM | Select Name, @{N = "Datastore"; E={$_ | Get-Datastore}}

This construction is called 'calculated property'.

As its name suggests, instead of any reference to a property that is present on the object passed to the Select-Object cmdlet, a calculated property to create a new property.

The name, or part N sets the name of this new property.

Part E or an Expression defines a block of code that defines how you calculate the value of the new property.

In part E, one can refer to the object that was passed to the Select-Object cmdlet with the variable $_.

  • linked clone / use of disk space

However, I am pretty new to LM.

I was informed that a linked clone would take about 64 MB of disk space per box. I clone a bunch of fees Windosw 2003 OS just to test this linked clone ability out.

The boxes are 27 GB of space to use before the cloning and 9.79 GB after cloning. This is still an economy but is not considerable 64 MB.

Can someone give me some real estimates what to expect in terms of disk space using linked clones without and the changes made to the original system.

Our main reason for the evaluation of the LM was to take advantage of the clones related as one of our servers that clone us is 500 GB in our environments so SAN space gets quickly chewed with each environment.

I'm curious to know what others are recording using a linked clone.

    Cheers.

Do not run a clone that is related to your model.

Create a configuration and add machines based on your model for this configuration.

  • Bloating of snapshot using linked clones

I have currently a VMware view test the configuration of the environment as follows:

    1 host ESXi 4.1

NetApp SAN with a volume of 250 GB configured

1 120 GB lun for the linked clones, 1 lun 60 GB for the VMs parent

vCenter vsphere, running on a windows 08 R2 vm Server (also houses see composer)

1 discovers the connection to the server running on a server 03 R2 vm windows

1 view security server running on a windows 08 R2 vm Server

So far, I was able to get the environment view work just fine.  It's a project pilot in its beginnings, there is not a lot of users (usually 1 or 2 to a maximum of time, with maybe of 5 overall users).  I noticed recently that storage that I allocated is being consumed way more that I thought it would be.

There are two parents VM, which have 2 GB of RAM with a 25 GB HD and 1 GB of RAM with a 15 GB HD, respectively.  They are sitting on their own separate logical unit number.  The first virtual machine (25GB / 2GB) has 2 clones and the second a 3 clones in a 120 GB LUN.  When I browse this data store in vSphere, I find this:

When you look at this picture, I see that the size of the virtual disk is 32 GB, which is fine for Replica 2, VMs and 5 related clones.  The part that I find confusing is that snapshots take 31,75 Go.   After further investigation by browsing the actual data store, I see this:

This clone also has a snapshot file, which is about 7 GB in size.  I checked each clone, they all have this snapshot file.  In addition, even the clones that are in the pool, but currently unfunded have this snapshot file sitting on the LUN.

Is there a setting within the opinion that took me unintentionally allowing this behavior, or each linked clone have / need this snapshot?  If it is not possible to turn it off, can someone explain to me his relevance/importance and whether or not I can remove these files?  It seems to me that to have a glimpse of a linked clone is redundant and a waste of space, I have a snapshot of the parent which I can return at any time if I need to.

Andre, it talks about the snapshot is created on the clone in 4.5.  This snapshot, allowing a quick return to the base image when you do updates where as in previous versions should be deleted the clone and build new.

Suiname if you need to remove (commit) the snapshot he would place all of the changes that had accumulated on the initial VMDK, so I don't think you would save any space out there.   If you return to this snapshot, it would open the entire space, but which is identical to a discount.

  • Image/replica/Final linked clone parent size

I need help explaining what is happening with our storage in our virtual machine system. We use the linked clone technology to create our VMS computer groups.

    1. my Windows 7 Image of Parent is 24 GB

    2. my replica created even if the cloning link is 5 GB

    3. my Final VM in the group is 12 GB

I understand that the final vm is based on the replica and has its OS DATA DISC and a DISC of DATA of the USER

I need to explain in detail why the final clone is bigger than the replica of 7 GB and I can not use the explanation of which is has a DATABASE operating system DISC and a DISC of DATA of the USER. I need help explaining what is created in each of these places and why it adds that much to the total used space of the computer of the created virtual machine for 12 GB.

    Any help would be great.

Your VM parent is your golden image.  It is a complete copy of any OS and you want to base your pool on applications.

Your reply is a read only copy of the gold statue.  Your virtual machine in your pool will be linked to the replica.

Your final VM is a delta based on the replica so file as the time passes and removal inside the virtual machine changing, it can grow.

The first thing I want is separate what my OS drive is my user data disk vs.  If your user 11FR data drive then your final VM size is not that bad.   You must also look at the age of your OS drive.  If it is a machine that works for more than a month and that you have installed different things to him like patches, antivirus DAT or applications since its creation, then he will develop enough large.   Your goal should be to maintain the OS drive as small as possible by avoiding the changes.  You can do this by using such things as thinapp for redirection of folder and application virtualization or profile included the disc of the user's data management software.   If you apply a bunch of fixes, you must update your gold statue and then recompose the pool.

  • What Linked Clone VM after having deleted the Parent model?

    Hi all

I deleted the models and all VM related clones still works fine

Looks like that model files still sitting on the data store.

It will be really difficult for me to keep track of which is where?

It will be really useful if we could come up with a report or something to achieve exact file structures

    Thank you

As long as a VMDK is necessary for all child VM still in Lab Manager (or a child of this VM) it will stay on the drive in its original folder.  You can eliminate some of the records/VMDK by consolidating the configurations that have been cloned from a template.  We do it with most of the configurations captured at the library.  You must be careful if or it will cost you a lot of space if

In Lab Manager you can see this in a graphical representation on the way to resources, Datatstores and then choose the data store for configuration model / you want to watch.  The mouse on the virtual machine, and then select the context.  Not only that you get a graphical view, but when you hover over each box it tells you the name of the folder and the size of it.  He also tells

I've been searching in the database to figure out how I can get this information and export it.  I'm only able to track down the parent folder for a current VM inside Lab Manager so far and not the parent of one that no longer exists (but always as a linked clone).

  • What is this C:\Windows\ubomupewukuwu.dll file?

    What is this C:\Windows\ubomupewukuwu.dll file?

I guess you ask because you get an error message at Windows startup on this file...

Looking for errors like this by doing a search on Google for the name of the file.  Usually, they turn up without success.

When a search in no hits or suspicious hits result, the answer is usually that the file in question is linked to the malicious software and your anti-malware application has deleted or quarantined file, but left to the Windows registry entry that tries to start the malicious software when you start your computer.

First of all, download, install, update and run full scans with two of these free analytical tools:

    MalwareBytes AntiMalware
    SUPERAntiSpyware

Do not run the scans at the same time.  They can take some time, so start an and then go for a non computer chore for awhile.

If the scans does not solve the problem (and they can't, because the actual malware file has already been processed), then download and run Autoruns.  Click on the "Connection" tab and look in the column 'Image path' for the dll named in your error message.  If it is not displayed in the connection tab, click the "all" tab and use the file > search tool.  A characteristic of the search of Autoruns tool is that you must move the selection under the element line "found" before you "Find Next."

Once you find the line with the file in question, either "delete" or (if you want to be safer) uncheck the box.  The latter prevents the line running, but you can reactivate it later by removing the check mark.

  • VMware Linked Clones in vWorkspace

    Hi all

I am currently working on a proposal where client insist on the use of the VMware hypervisor as the note of calculation. I have some research in the related Clones and basically its similar to what the differencing disk VHD got to offer. My main concern here is so we can use the technology VMware Linked Clones to deploy persistent desktop or is it only for non-persistent desktop mode? How about storage if economies compared to the disk hard virtual differencing disk? What is the estimate of the use of the delta of a typical user based on your experience? Thanks for the advice!

    Kind regards

    Cyril

    Hi Cyril,.

I can answer some of your questions.

You can use a clone bound like a persistent desktop computer, it does not work.

After a while, however, the linked Clone will be so different from the image of the mother, it will become very swollen (for example, updates of Windows to go it would be applied to each clone bound, user installed Apps, etc.)

I know some customers like to capture profiles on persistent desktop computers so that they can periodically update the image of the mother and redeploy related clones from there. It works well to keep the machine day and bloating under control. The obvious drawback being any user installed apps would disappear, but it all depends on if you allow them this level of customization.

    Thank you, Andrew.

  • Instant and linked clone automated floating pools

I am trying to understand the interaction between the image and the snapshot used to define the pool and pool record itself original.

For example; A snapshot is taken of an optimized image of Win7, call it the image of 'work '. No other changes are made in the image of 'working '. An automated floating pool linked clone is created from this image and the snapshot. In this case, since we use roaming profiles and folder redirection its my understanding that no changes to the workstations are stored on virtual machines. Because it would seem that no change is retained which would be stored in the snapshot, what purpose would serve the snapshot?

My organization takes images of maintaining not optimized as master of the images to install software changes and updates, and then their cloning off to pictures of work. These images of work are used to create our pools. (Should) a picture of work and the other snapshot allows to form several pools of condition there is no difference between the software needs of the different pools? Commissioning several pools is intended to prevent an entire segment of the company to be without a computer something becomes corrupted in one of the pools.

    Thank you in advance.

    H

The latter is used to create a replica that is a read-only copy of the virtual machine.   When your linked clones are created, they are related to the replica.

You can absolutely use snapshot to multiple pools, if you choose.

  • linked clones, sql server sysprep, how does the storage

    Hello

I created a SQL Server 2008 R2 sysprep installation. deployed clones related to these models.

    Everything works great!

I just want to know how the installatioon takes place. linked clones share binaries and files of parent?

Is there any degradation of performance in the future?

or that all the SQL Server program files and installation files actually get copied on?

    What happens exactly...

    Thank you

    Solution

1 use this link to prepare the image through GUI

    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/petersad/archive/2009/12/17/SQL-Server-2008-R2-Sysprep-step-by-step.aspx

2 copy the content on SQL Server ISO at the root of C:\xxxxxx

3 complete the image using configuration.ini (encrypted installation)

you will need to change your setupcomplete.cmd in the C:\windows\setup\scripts folder

    4. once the installation is finished, you can run a batch file to delete the installation folder.
