What should I do before you sell or get rid of my old computer?

Original title: I give you my computer to my friend.  Should I reinstall the original version of the XP operating system, which has since been replaced by a newer version, before parting with this computer?

I have a laptop Dell Smartstep 250N, bought 1n 2002, with an operating system of Windows XP Home Edition.

I'm getting a new computer and want to give this Dell computer to a friend.

The original version of the XP operating system has been replaced by a newer version.

Before giving my computer away, I want to reinstall the operating system, so all files are left deleted/more difficult to find.

Should I remove the most recent version of Windows XP and install the original version?  Or do I have to reinstall the most recent version to make the files more difficult to find and install the original version of contempt?  If so, how do I do that?

Thank you for any assistance.

Hello

You can reinstall any version of the operating system that is supported by the computer, in your case, you can install Windows XP Home Edition or the latest version of the operating system that is based on your choice.

Note:

Perform a clean installation (the hard drive Format), while the reinstallation of the operating system.

Backup all important data on an external hard drive as a new installation of the operating system will be washing all the data.
