What to do after I wipe an external hard drive?

I just used KillDisk to erase a 1 TB external hard drive. I still want to use this hard drive but my computer does not recognize it. I read that I might have to reformat or something? Also read something about Fdisk. Don't know if this is the case for me, no one knows anything about what I should do next? And how to do it? Thank you.

This is the site with instructions. Unfortunately, I'm not very aware when it comes to technology. Help, please!

http://www.killdisk.com/KillDisk-FAQ.htm

Press start, search diskmgmt.msc, open that appears in the search. (should be "diskmgmt")

Find your external drive, which, on the lower part of the screen, should have a giant bar with black on top of it. If it is blue, read the paragraph after it and ignore the following sentence. Right click after making sure is your external drive (you can tell by looking at how big it is), and then select new simple volume.

If the bar is blue, and you are sure it is your external drive, it has already been formatted. In this case, right click, select change drive letter and paths, and if there is no letter listed, click Add, choose a letter and press Ok. It should be shown in my computer.

If it's black, continue reading below.

Press next, and then it will ask you what size you want the partition, and it should already have filled the maximum space, you can do. Press next. You can then select a drive letter, that will most likely be E, of course you can change it to any desired letter.

In the next screen, it should have already chosen "format this volume with the following settings. Make sure he put the NTFS file system, allocation unit size must be default which is very good, and you can choose a name for the drive.

Quick format is selected automatically and I would say leaving just checked, as a normal on a 1 format to player would take a few hours.

Pressing should then start formatting. On this bar where you initially right click to start this, admittedly, formatting. When he's ready, he'll say: formatting (0%) and then it should finish quickly, because you have chosen to do a quick format.

After that, the drive appears in my computer and can be used.

  • Moving after projects effect on external hard drive

How can I move all of my After Effect projects and their associated files on my local drive on a hard drive so that in the future all the work of EI will be saved on the external hard drive?

The easiest way is to use the service to collect files to put a single project in a separate folder, including a copy of the original project and then move that or as backup to an external drive.

The other option is to duplicate your original files that contain assets in the project and copy it to an external drive and then open the project and recreate a link to missing images. The first option is easier.

  • RAW files missing changes after moving to an external hard drive

Hi, I use lightroom 4 and I cleaned a part of my images on my laptop and then exported in JPEG files. My hard drive has started to fill up, so I moved all my files on raw on an external hard drive but now when I come back to make adjustments to these images it tells me that the file is missing. How the raw return file so that it shows the changes I made?

The changes should have been stored in the catalog file or in an XMP Sidecar file. Also moved the XMP Sidecar files. These XMP files can be marked as system files in OS X, and unless you have show system files (which, with OS X for that option and turn it you may need to use Terminal), and or display all files, Finder can hide on your part.

  • Cannot associate .bkf after a backup on external hard drive

I am running Windows XP Home edition. I downloaded my Windows CD backup. I backed up my files to an external drive. It took 40 minutes, so I'm pretty sure they did backup. I can't access the files as it says they are .bkf files and have no association on my computer. What did I miss, or what more I have to do.

    Ian

File type: Backup utility backup set
The BKF file type is primarily associated with 'Windows XP' by Microsoft Corporation.
For XP Home this utility is not installed by default. You must install it from the directory of the added value of your disc XP Home distribution. Once installed shows upward in the start menu. Programs | Menu accessories. If you make several backups a catalogue of these backups is kept on the hard drive in the folder \Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows NT\NTBackup\catalogs51.
If you have a backup file you want to recover files from and this file is not listed in the catalog, then the Windows backup program will not restore from this file, unless you delete the catalog. Then, with no other data to work from, Windows backup will recover the backup files.
There are many programs that you can download to extract BKF files, I do not use them because they are likely to have viruses. There are those who have a claim registry problem if there is no file association, DO NOT USE A REGISTRY REPAIR TOOL OF DIFFICULTY or PROBLEM!
    Hope this can be useful

  • Access my files after converting HD internal external hard drive?

I was using a Lenovo Thinkpad notebook that had initially installed, Windows 7 upgraded to Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 then. Screen of the laptop was accidentally crushed, and while the laptop was working fine, it was unusable because the screen was totally destroyed. As I'm travelling and I wanted to replace it anyway, I took the hard drive and put it in an external enclosure.

I try to access my files from the hard drive on another computer. This computer is running Windows 7. When I plugged in the drive for the first time, I authorized the computer analyze and correct (I think, I don't remember the exact words) the hard drive. Now, I'm trying to get my files. I believe that they are under "Users--> last" but then an error message will appear, telling me "you don't currently have permission to this folder. Click on continue to get a permanent access to the folder. "I click on continue, then get"you have been denied access to this folder. To win access to go to Security tabs. "But I do not know what parameters to change in the Security tabs, as I can in all. More on the Security tabs, it shows me that the folder is empty.

I can't unlock this file? If so, how? I screw it up by leaving this analysis of the computer the drive? Is there a chance that it works on a Windows 8?

    Any help is VERY appreciated!

EDIT: This is a public library computer so I can't access the administrator user. When I get to 'Properties' for the record, there no tab 'security', just general, "sharing, previous versions, customize. So maybe I should try it on a computer where I can access the administrator user?

  • Initialized external hard drive not recognized

I recently bought a Windows 8 RT tablet. When you attach an external hard drive of 1 TB with USB connection, it does not recognize the computer as being already formatted - in other words, in the disk management window, I realized to initialize the drive.  I use the hard drive to save the files (more storage than available on the Tablet) and it has been formatted on a Windows 8.1 device and holds about 500 GB of data. Before you buy the Tablet, I had accesses files by using an older MacBook with no problems. Is it possible to access the hard disk on the Windows 8 RT Tablet without initialization (which I guess would involve having to temporarily move all data to another device and then reload on the external hard drive reset)?

    Hello

Thank you for your response. The information that you have provided are appreciated.

As you say it has compatibility issue, the latest drivers for the device must be installed to have all the features.

Try to install all the updates of Windows including the optional updates, after having connected the external hard drive with the Tablet and check if it helps. You can check the link below to install Windows updates.

  • I bought a 500 GB external hard drive and did a full system backup. Then he told me that I need a floppy disk? After backup system restore was complete. What?

I had a scare last week and thought that my computer crashed.  In the end, everything was fine, but I decided I had to do a full backup of the system.  Bought 500 GB external hard drive.  Full backup of the system ran through the performance Wizard mode & maint.  When finished, he gave me a saying of the warning, something like "insert a diskette to run the system restore" something like that.  Does this mean that if I have a major failure which is on the external hard drive is null and avenue?  Floppy?  What is everything?

The disk is a boot disk that is used to access the backup files.
