What type of HD in Satellite Pro 4600?
What type HD can I put in the SP4600?
I know many (most) HD was / work.
But is it OK to throw in a 60 or 80 GB in it that can make 7200 RPM and supports UDMA5?
Please don't mention standard-toshiba-Jack not supported - know - how.
I prefer to use practical information!
Check out this site. You will find a large number of compatible hard drives for your device.

My age Satellite Pro 4600 has a 20 GB HARD drive. These are now very difficult to obtain, does anyone know if superior capacy HDDs can be used and, if so, what is the maximum size of the HARD drive.
(Despite his age that I always use the Satellite Pro for some jobs).
Satellite Pro 4600 is old enough for laptop and it is not easy to find the exact info. The fact is that this laptop comes with 10 and 20 GB hard drives.
My opinion is that you can use 30 or even 40 GB HDD. I think that 30 GB new HARD drive should be enough for your some jobs.
What do you think?
Can Hi anyone tell me if I can replace my CD drive with a DVD drive for this model? My current set up is:
650 Celron, 128 MB, CD-rom, win 2000.
If so, what is the part number I need?
Thanks in advance!
I'm not sure about this, but I know that the discs are also used in the satellite Pro 4600:
Toshiba SD-C2402 (DVD - ROM drive)
Toshiba SD-R2002 (CD-RW/DVD-ROM drive)
I don't know if this disks are still available.
Hello, your product PA3107U-1BRS battery is compatible whit Satellite Pro 4600?
I found the info that these two batteries are designed for your device:
PA2487U G BATTERY
BATTERY FROM RG PA2487U

I have twice had problems trying to upgrade memory to my Satellite Pro 4600, so I decided to ask directly if Kingston KTC-SO133/256 MB is compatible with this machine?
It's the SODIMM I'm about to try next, but I have to pay for it first.
Problems were that the SODIMM modules is not compatible with the wonderful piece of memory or it won't work at all with Toshiba.
Is there an availave list what type of bars of memory are compatible?
Sorry, I can tell you that I use the Original from Toshiba 'PA3069U - 1 M 25' memory (its a KIT of MEMORY of 256 MB)
Hello to all peoples,
Ask for that, but you give driver just the download link.
But I don't know which is my series A or L or P. My laptop is Satellite pro 4600 PIII700/128/C/LM/W PS460 E. Now, everyone gives answer what's my series name quickly.
HM, people always want and quickly now... but no matter.
I can't give you a direct link, but you can do the following:
1. click on the link-> http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/download_drivers_bios.jsp
2. then choose by product Type-> "Archive".
3. choose family-> «Satellite Pro»
4. choose by product series-> 'Satellite Pro 46xx.
5. choose the model-> 'Satellite Pro 4600'
6. choose the number of short model--> "PS460E" (anyway it s one available only)
7. Select the operating system-> 'Windows XP'
8. click on "search".
9 download all the drivers you need
That s, it was the most simple version of my explanation how to reach the drivers for your machine. I hope I don't have to explain it a lot easier... ;)
I am not able to set up authentication WPA on my Satellite Pro 4600. This possibility is not in the network authentication drop-down list in the Properties dialog box (only open and shared).
Is there a support for WPA in the bed of the laptop LAN card?
Please help me!
Map of the mini PCI WLAN driver version is: 220.127.116.11
OS: Windows XP SP2
Since the machine is a little older, I Don t think that your wireless network card is able to do the WPA encryption.
There should still be a way to get the WPA for you. You can switch to another card that is capable of WPA and perhaps other speeds as 54 M/bits or faster.
You can find these cards, mini-pci, for example, prices very low @ Ebay or in some computer stores.
PS: It would be interesting to know what wlan card is installed on your system. So please check your device manager and tell me what type of card you have.
My brother has a pretty old Satellite Pro 4600 [model number is PS460E-0C8X7-FR]
He needs a Win98 SE display driver - the problem is that I can't find his laptop on the pages of downloads model.
Suggestions very welcome please!
Visit the download page for Toshiba under http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/download_drivers_bios.jsp
As product type select ARCHIVE. All that s!
I can't control the contrast, brightness, Saturation etc... using the control panel of Trident in my Satellite Pro 4600. Could someone help me to activate these controls?
Thanks in advance
normally, you can change this settigs in the Panel, but to explain the way to change this would be nice to know what operating system you have installed.
If you have the perinstalled Os, it might be that you have Win2000.
Go to the control panel - display - Advanced control and then you could choose between video, color or television.
The Brightess could be changed to energy-saving, because the brightness depends on your setting of power.
Battery high brightness mode could reduce your battery power!
I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro 4600 with a built-in wireless lan mini pci card. My problem is that I only have Windows XP! But in the toshiba Download Center, there is only the driver for Windows 2 k. What can I do to use the complete wireless lan card controlled? There is a wireless lan client Manager program under Win 2 k called. Can someone help me?

Basically, the WIFI connection can be configured using settings in Windows and it is not necessary to use a WLAN client software.
I have a SP4600 and because I love this machine, I want to give him the chance to stay with me - but unfortunately, it will only work by increasing its performance...
Is anyone here has made some experiences in upgrading a SP4600 more than 512 MB of RAM?
I know that this machine uses PC100 SD - RAM that is available up to 256 MB.
But someone has tried successfully to put in PC133 memory? And if so, to were the limit?
And more: what about the upgrade of the rest, for example, the CPU or the whole motherboard?
Currently, his heart beats with 700 Mhz (Celeron). Would it be as easy as just another graft?
Or would it be easier to exchange the whole motherboard?
I've never done anything like this before and I'm not sure how the rest of the system can react on these interventions, in particular because the we-board-video and sound on board...
I would be delighted if someone could give me some positive feedback on these issues...
You can only use the memory 100 Mhz modules because the FSB is limited to 100 MHz.
If you use 133 Mhz modules, they will work only at 100 Mhz.
You can upgrade the satellite Pro 4600 until 512 MB (2x256MB)
Other devices such as the CPU or GPU are not extensible and the motherboard may be replaced only with the same motherboard
Finally, you should know that the laptop technology is a little different and you can't compare it with any desktop computer. You can update some parts such as the memory or HARD drive, but that s all the
Several years ago, we broke the monitor on our laptop Satellite Pro 4600 computer series. Yesterday, that I took it out to connect to TV and see what data (especially photos), we had on what I was able to backup to an external drive. However, it doesn't start. I only see one tiny bit of the message displayed: "* bad ' and on the next line"check knew. "
I tried to boot with the disk support, but it does not work. By pressing Fn + F5 does not control the settings of the monitor with her in this State, I can't see the full mesdage. I'd rather not use the recovery and the Configuration Builder CD because I want to see my files...
Thank you very much.
the quick and easy way:
-go and get a usb-to-ide-usb adapter
-Take out the hard drive and
-connect with the adapter usb to another machine
now, you have access to all your files!
the long way:
-Connect a monitor to the machine
-Make sure that the external monitor is your primary display
-check the bios and set date/time
-try to boot your operating system
-course data on external hard drive
This adapter is about 15 euros, and you can use it more than once!
I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro 4600 PIII900/128 / 20G / 14 t/D/LM/W (it is written on the sticker under the portable) MODEL No.. PS460E-04NVW which MoBo should I do? Mine is broken, so I want to buy one on eBay, but I don't know what model is right.
PS: Sorry for my bad English again. I'm Italian... :)
Thanks for this info!
I have a Satellite pro 4600 that my son bought his first Fixer of computer.
The laptop comes with the hard drive erased. The problem he is trying to install Windows 2000, the laptop comes with OEM.
The computer starts up to the windows disk and loads all the files, but when the Windows installation starts the computer stops.
We are trying to install the power adapter plugged in, and it seems that all the lights are either now or at least works.
This laptop was announced as work, but with no OS installed. As this is the first that he bought, we have no spare parts to swap around.
Guidance on what would be the most likely problem, or a good place to start looking would be greatly appreciated!
First, I would try to clean the laptop with a jet of compressed air. This could blow out the dust from the cooling fans. You can get in at a computer retailer.
As Akuma said, check the RAM with Memtest86 and also on your disk with the Drive Fitness Test: http://www.hitachigst.com/hdd/support/download.htm#DFT
Guys, I really need help.
I picked up on old satellite pro 4600 eBay and have rebuilt the thing - everything works EXCEPT the screen - I get a very small image, even on the start screen.
So far I have - changed the cable lcd - no effect. changed the Panel itself, no effect and inverter (4 times!).
Any suggestions? Driver problem? Setting I missed somewhere? Motherboard problem?
Hmmm. My first thought was the faulty FL inverter.
Are you sure you used the right and compatible FL inverter? A connect it correctly?
What about the keys FN + F6/F7? It allows to set the brightness to a higher level?
Then maybe you should check for this possibility.
