What version of Windows 7 Professional can I install - 32 or 64 bit?

Hello. What version of windows 7 Professional would go. 32-bit or 64-bit? As im upgrading to professional so that I can run a Vertual XP Machine, which I think will be 32 bit compatible.  Is how important it? Or I stay with the 32-bit version?

VirtualBox does not support boot from USB key USB by default. You're better off using a. ISO file or DVD.

You can use VMWare Player as an alternative, if you use a USB key as a support for your installation:

  • What "version" of Windows 7 Professional buy to be compatible with the merger?

I am currently running Win XP in Fusion.  I would like to buy Windows 7 Professional and create a brand new clean install of a new virtual machine with it.

I've seen discussions which indicate that some versions of Windows 7 may NOT be installed in Fusion (specifically OEM - System Builder).  I really don't understand what it means. Which version CAN I buy and install?  Is there a specific number of Microsoft product that I should look for?  Are some versions OEM OK with merging?  How do I know if it will work?  I have many, many of them for sale online have watched but don't know which to buy.  Is there a certain online seller who has a compatible version?

Microsoft support is notorious for giving wrong information about legal usage of the various licenses - as much as the rules relating to Windows 8 radically (and repeatedly).

OEM licenses are legal for use on the machine on which they were delivered with.  Because Apple is not shipped with windows machines, no OEM licenses are legal to use on a Mac (boot camp or other).

Amazon.com: Microsoft Windows 7 Professional [old Version]: software

Seems to be the commercial version.  Put another way - if it's under $400, it's probably OEM (or false).

  • Satellite U300-111 - what version of Windows 7, you can recommend?

    Hi all!

I have a friend with a Toshiba Satellite U300-111, and it wants to install Win7 on it.
Since it has a T7100 processor, I think she could install the 64-bit version, but it seems that there are fewer drivers in charge compared to the 32-bit.
Do you advise me to continue for 32 or 64?

    Thanks for any answers :)

    Hello

Yes, for notebooks, you have a better driver support on 32 bit OS because 64-bit OS is not necessary if you have 4 GB RAM or more installed. Alternatively, you can use only 3.2 GB of RAM.

So if you have less RAM I recommend the 32-bit version. :)

  • I can install the full version of Windows 7 Professional on my computer Vista Home Premium? If so, how?

I bought a full version of Windows 7 Professional to install on my Vista Home Premium computer.  I tried to reformat my Vista drive in a right click on the C drive and select "format", but I get a message that I can not format this drive.  Help!

    Here is the Vista Forums.

You have to boot from the Windows 7 disc to do a clean install.

Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.

At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu

  • How can I tell what version of Windows my Win7 upgrade copy corresponds to?

A few years back, one of my friends gave me his old computer running Windows 7.  I just had to replace the motherboard and processor on it, and when I went to reinstall Windows, I learned that the CD Win7 key he had corresponded to a Windows 7 upgrade version.  From what I could tell, I need to install an older version of Windows first, and then use the upgrade CD to return to Win7.  I installed Windows XP Home Edition and I tried, but the CD Win7 said that I had the wrong version of Windows to upgrade.  I installed Windows Vista and got the same thing.  How can I tell what version of Windows my Win7 update of that CD will modernize?

    Thank you!

Looks like the copy of Windows 7, you were trying to install from Windows XP Home Edition is a 64-bit version.

You will need to boot from the DVD 64 bit Windows 7:

Boot from the Windows 7 DVD

To learn how to change your BIOS options to boot from the DVD drive, the following tutorial:
    http://notebooks.com/2011/05/05/How-to-load-BIOS-and-change-boot-configuration/

    Click Install now
    Accept the license agreement
When the option is displayed to select a type of installation, click (Custom advanced)

Select the disk partition where you want to install Windows 7 click Next.

You will receive the following warning:

The partition you have selected may contain files from a previous Installation of Windows. If so, these files and folders will be moved to a folder named Windows.old. You will be able to access the information in Windows.old, but you will be able to use your previous version of Windows.

(At all costs, do NOT click on anything in Format, deletion or Partition name.) So even do a custom installation, your personal files are still kept. Click OK

The installation program will now begin installation. During installation, your computer will be restarted several times.

Once the installation is complete, you can complete the Out of Box experience as the choice of your laptop, create a username, password, your time zone. You can then proceed to download the latest updates for Windows and reinstall your applications and drivers.

You can then retrieve your personal files from the Windows.old folder and reinstall all of your applications and drivers.

  • I am running Windows XP Professional, can I upgrade to Windows 7 or Vista?

The upgrade to Windows XP Professional edition

I am running Windows XP Professional, can I upgrade to Windows 7 or Vista?  I want to run the iCloud but need a more recent version to do.  Thank you.

The first thing to do is to download and run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor--> http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=20

If your hardware and your applications are compatible with Windows 7 (and there are drivers available for your hardware devices) then you can buy a copy of Windows 7 and install it.  You will have to do what Microsoft calls a "custom installation" which is a facility clean Windows 7 in force and which is to format your hard drive.

Thus, you must first save all your data (files, documents, music, photos, etc.) on another medium (the best is an external hard drive), and then import this into the computer after the installation of Windows 7.  Microsoft is a tool for this called Windows Easy Transfer, but you can use any method you like.

Also, you must reinstall all of your applications from their original installation media.  If any of these applications has been downloaded, you'll need a copy of the downloaded installation package or a way to re - download.  You must also make sure that you have all your license keys.

If you go ahead with this, one thing you need to do before your existing XP installation is more usable is to download and run Belarc Advisor (free).  Belarc is mainly intended to let you know if your security patches are up-to-date, it also gives you a list of license keys for a large part of your installed software.

PS: Don't waste your time with Vista.  If you can not go to Windows 7, stick with XP.

What version of Windows I have? I can not also read the sticker because it is worn out and the laptop will not completely start or repair, recovery disks are lost. Part number is readable bbut paert looks like:

    THX

    Hello

You probably don't need to know what version of Windows, but the Panel of configuration/system will tell you if you are interested. There will probably be a sticker on the laptop (not the one that you can not read, under the cover near the mouse pad), which you said, but I guess you could have peeled off.

Look at this link for how to do a system reinstall...

In addition, if provided with the laptop or you recovery disks burn them for yourself these should also do the job.

Before do you a re-install back up your data you can restore it later. You will also need to re - install the software that was installed after purchase.

  • Windows Storage: what version of windows and updated to reflect later

    Hello

I am very new to Windows storage space. I have a few questions:

    1. what version of Windows is the best (only for storage purposes): 8.1 Windows Client, Windows Server R2 Windows Server 2012 Essentials 2012?

    2. in the scenario that I have only 1 HDD now for this. My ultimate goal is to have a mirror put in place when I could buy another drive. Is it possible to go game now and add another disk to mirror later? Do I have to re - format the drive being installed with the new disk mirrored do? Any instructions somewhere?

    Thank you

    Bao.

This system, which is used for?  Business with several users who connect or personal?

That would certainly answer your questions...

Personally, I still hope an array of material on all the rest.  Just as software RAID could you create a mirror RAID with through previous editions of products 'professional or better' Windows - space storage is always based software. ;-)

    With the help of Google:
    https://www.Google.com/search?q=use+storage+spaces+to+create+mirror

Probably, that's what you're looking for (according to ISO how you asked, etc.):

    http://www.howtogeek.com/109380/how-to-use-Windows-8s-storage-spaces-to-mirror-combine-drives/

    ... and...

    http://helpdeskgeek.com/Windows-8/create-RAID-like-data-backup-using-storage-spaces-Windows-8/

Not to complicate things.  It is really as easy as adding the physical drive and selecting the one-way glass, given what you have so far.

Of course - backups should always be verified (image of the system if possible) before doing anything.  While you might lose data by READING this for various reasons - you increase the risk when you start to play with the data in real time.  ;-)

  • What version of Windows 7 has hand featlure of handwriting recognition Tablet?

I have a laptop / Tablet Toshiba M700 with Vista Business.  Toshiba support told me that Windwos 7 will support my Tablet/handwriting recognition capabilities but not Windows 8.  What version of Windows 7 is what I need?

The Tablet features are available in all editions of Windows 7 except the Starter edition.  Given that you cannot upgrade Vista to Starter - as far as I know, you need not worry.  ;-)

Determine what you need by other factors:
    http://en.Wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_7_editions#Comparison_chart

If you have "Vista Business"--> to make a direct upgrade without loss of settings/software installed (for the most part-in any case to make backups - be smart on this topic) you need to get one of the following editions of Windows 7:

    Professional, company, full

... and since it is unlikely that you will get a copy of 'Business' for your personal system (hypothesis- but you doesn't look like not you upgrading a bunch of them, nor did the expression to make me think, "IT staff"...) you would need one of these two editions:

    Professional or ultimate edition

    https://www.Google.com/search?q=%22Windows+7+Professional+Edition%22#q=%22Windows+7+Professional+Edition%22&TBM=shop

The first is probably more than enough.  New - Look at the table...
    http://en.Wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_7_editions#Comparison_chart

Good luck.  Don't forget to download and have ready all your drivers for hardware devices made for Windows 7 by the manufacturer of your computer (Toshiba) and/or manufacturers of individual components to install after having upgraded.  Non - Microsoft did not or they take over your hardware somehow - they made the operating system, he returned to write drivers that interface with every operating system they wish their device working properly on the manufacturers material and up to the end user to install in a scenario such as the one you are proposing to us business.

If you bought a laptop and you want to install Windows 8 Professional, can install you it directly or you must have a base like Windows 7 Stater license?

    Hello

The only FULL of Windows 8 Pro version would be the OEM System Builder... everything else is an upgrade...

Unlike Win 7 and earlier versions, Microsoft is not offering one COMPLETE Win 8 other than OEM package...

The difference is that the OEM version has no support from Microsoft... If you have a problem, you are on your own... Just enjoy the Forums and for any issues that arise...

Providing that there are drivers available for your laptop to win 8, it should work...
