What will be lost if I use a new database for vCenter Server?

Currently, we use VC 2.5 U4 with database SQL Server 2000 Personal Edition.  We intend to migrate the SQL Server used by VC to SQL Server 2005 Express 2000 database.  We have tried the upgrade on-site of the VC database but without success.

In this way, we will create a new SQL Server 2005 Express for VC database.  We would like to see more performance statistics, the following items will be lost?

(1) resource pool

(2) cluster configuration

(3) connect to the ESX host

(4) configuration of NIC in ESX host

(5) the allocation of resources for each virtual computer

We are very concerned by the Network Configuration of a particular ESX host that takes us a long time to repair.

Thank you

The ESX host network configuration will remain as it is a host level setting.  With regard to the other elements:

(1) Yes, you will lose your Resource Pools

(2) your cluster configuration, including DRS rules, etc. will be lost

(3) you will need to add each ESX host on your vCenter Server

(4) as indicated, you will not lose your network configuration

(5) If you set resources in a Resource Pool, then you who will lose.  If you set it on the virtual machine itself then I believe that you leave this setting.

You will also lose some other things, like all the permissions you applied at various levels of vCenter.

  • What will be lost if I perform a new installation of vCenter Server?

    Hello

We tried to upgrade our existing vCenter Server 4 to 5 without success.  The VC Server service is not able to start up.

VMWare support staff has suggested us to perform a new installation.  We would like to know what information will be lost and must be reconfigured to the new vCenter Server?  We are OK to do not keep permeable Performance data.

    Thank you

What you lose depends on what you have in vCenter.

Models, Folders, Cluster configurations, pools of cluster resources, HA/DRS configurations, alarm settings

clusters to store data, storage profiles, profiles of the host, historical events,

If you use the vNetwork distributed switch,

vCenter Distributed switching configurations will not exist in the new facility and

need to be rebuilt before adding the hosts;   You'll probably need to convert those back

the standard vSS on the hosts temporarily before adding them to the new vCenter...

Basically... you lose all configuration except the configuration stored locally on the host computers.

It is essentially the list of virtual machines and the stuff you see in the 'configuration' tab when you click

    a host.

You will need to add the hosts as one of the steps in the installation of the new Victoria Cross.

You will have the virtual machines stored on the host and resource pools that existed

on the host at the time, vC was lost.

However, when you move the hosts in a cluster, the 'Home' resource pools

    will be deleted.

  • How to calculate memory used by each database in a server

We have 7 databases running on a server.

    Operating system: solaris

I want to add a new database on this server. So I want to find if we have enough memory to add a new database. How to find?

There is a script called omemuse.sh that does exactly that, and you can find it easily enough. There are two versions of the script; that the one you use depends on your version of Solaris.

Also note that the amount of memory that your use of DBs depends on the SGA and the total PGA. The latter varies according DB activity over time, it should be taken into account.

  • Can I clear my phone without connecting to a computer? What will be lost?

I need to clear my phone because iTunes ruined game. I don't want to wait until I get home from vacation because it is virtually unusable. What will I lose? I backed it up to iCloud, including photos.

I would highly recommend against that. Chances are that you will succeed only in making it even more unusable.

  • How will I know if I use the new synchronization?

Want to know if I need to go through the new process of synchronization of devices not linking the synchronization of the former and the reset to the new synchronization.

The servers used for the old version of sync have been taken down and you can no longer access the data stored on the server.
You can use the new synchronization version that uses a Firefox account (https://accounts.firefox.com/).

  • What will be the price of the course and examination for VCAP5-DCA?

I am currently a VCP5 and interested pursuing a VMware Certified Advanced Professional certification. I am aware that the DAC VCAP5 to the course and exam registration is not available in Q2 2012 but I need one approximate how the course and examination will be, if possible.

    Thank you

For VCAP4-DCA, there were a number of recommended classes - troubleshooting, Performance, security, PowerCLI - but for VCAP5-DCA is only to optimize & scale.

As Andrew says the training is not mandatory, but it will be useful.

Can I use my product key for windows 2008 after it downgrade to windows 2003?

Your question of Windows 7 is more complex than what is generally answered in the Microsoft Answers forums. It is better suited for the IT Pro TechNet public. Please post your question in the TechNet Windows 7 Server forum.

  • How will I know if a host is associated with a vCenter Server

Once my 5.0 ESXi host is managed by / code with a vCenter server, there are some commands that you can perform only through the vCenter.

In particular, all-hard drive size, whole-controller SCSI and Set-VMReservations.

In case my vCenter is down, I would leave my script (PowerCLI 5.5r1) with a mistake that these operations cannot be executed until start of vCenter or the host that contains the virtual machine is no longer active with vCenter.  I think it's safe to let the user decide how he wants to move forward in this case and not build it in my script.

Is there a cmdlet to ask the host if it is associated with a vCenter Server?  When you use VI Client to connect to the host, you can see the link in the lower right part of the Summary tab that says "separate host to vCenter Server...". ».

The get-VMHost cmdlet seems like it should have this info, but I was not able to find.

    Thanks for your suggestions

    Maureen

Please take a look to determine vCenter management host to see if that helps.

    Hey Susan-MPC.

Have you tried to start Firefox in Mode safe? Key 'shift' startup of Firefox. It could be related to an extension. Then you should read the extensions, themes and problems of hardware acceleration to resolve common troubleshooting Firefox problems.

I see you are using an older version of Firefox as well. You can update. There are many advantages to the performance of the latest version of the browser.

    Hope this helps!

  • No matter what advantage of having a virtual disk instead of partition for SQL server?

    have a quick question...

I intend to deploy a new server in SQL on VMWARE 5.1 with super 3PAR storage (I'm not Administrator VMWARE, just an occasional driver).

I'm going to d, e, f for DATA, the newspapers partitions, backup. Does make sense to create a disc of rtual for each partition instead of create 3 partitions on a disk of VMWare return Outlook - 3PAR?

    Thank you.

I would recommend you create three virtual disks, because in this way you can easily put each virtual disk in a different level.

Using a single virtual drive for all three partitions, you can't give different level for each partition... in any case if your storage supports a hierarchy at the block level, storage moves the hot blocks of vmdk to a better level.
