When I click on my desktop shortcut icons in the new firefox 4 I get a dialog box that indicates that windows does not find that the website

I have improved the previous version of firefox to the new firefox v.4 and now all the shortcut icons I used with the previous version display a pop-up dialog box that says that windows does not find this website, check the spelling - address - etc. But immediately after this window opens the Web site loads. I tried to load the original site, delete the old shortcut and drag the new shortcut to my desktop, but Firefox always gives me the same message.

  • When I click on a desktop icon it always opens as a minmize. How do I open it to enlarge the form

I use windows 8 in a new Dell computer. There are 40 + icons on the desktop and when I click on a desktop icon that it always opens minimize the form. How do I open it to enlarge the form?

    Hi, Philippe A.Morrissette,.

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Communities.

According to the description of the problem, it seems that you try to open the desktop icons to enlarge the form.

Please go ahead and follow the steps mentioned from the link and later a update on the State of the question.

Method 1: No matter what shortcut you use to launch the window, right-click and select Properties. Under the 'Run' drop-down list, choose "expanded".

Method 2: Also try to grab the corners of the window and drag it to the format full screen.  Do not use Maximize. First close all other windows via the taskbar and this last one. Windows will remember the size of the last closed window the next time that you open the program.

Please follow these recommended steps and post if you still experience the problem.

  • A small white page is dispalyed over my desktop shortcuts icons.

    Original title:

    Shortcut pages

I have several icons on my desktop. A few days after I restarted my computer it is a small white page on all of my desktop shortcuts. The right image for the shortcut is always behind it, but this page of small white is very annoying. I tried to change the shortcut icon image and production of new shortcuts, all with the same problem. Any ideas?

    Hello
    1. You did changes to the computer before the show?

    3. What happens when you click the shortcut icons?
You try to run the fixit from the link next and if it works:

  • Shortcut icons on the desktop does not open.

Shortcut icons on the desktop does not open unless I select a program in the "Open with" menu that appears whenever I click on a shortcut. This has only started recently. Previously I would click and icon would go directly to the Web site without asking how I want to open it. What is the cause?

    Hello

    · What is the number and the model of the computer?

    · Do you remember all the recent changes on the computer before the show?

    · What is the service pack installed?

    1. you can follow the steps in the link below and check if this can help: cannot open files with extensions such as.exe, .com, and.lnk on a Windows XP computer: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923077

    2. online virus scanner and check if any malware or virus detected on the computer activity. You can run the scan for viruses online from the link below: http://www.microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx

  • shortcut icons on the desktop

OK, it is not important, but the names of my shortcut icons on the desktop, suddenly changed - now I have white writing on a gray background.  How to change?

You can use system restore to roll back the machine back to a point just before that the problem started.

(Thanks to Alan Edwards for what follows, a search for "icons transparent alan edwards" will always find quickly and easily the solution).

Four things are needed for the transparent icon backgrounds:

    1. Control Panel-System-Advanced-Performance settings.
Check "Shadows fall to use the desktop icon labels" on the display
    Effects tab.

2 - Click on Desktop - "arrange icons by" and ensure the lock Web
    items is disabled.

    3. transparency will not work if you have the web content on your desktop.
Control panel - display properties Desktop tab - customize the Office-
Web tab, clear all the check boxes.

    4. ensure that the wallpaper is an image file no HTML.

Is there to restore the shortcut icons on the desktop on a computer pavilion laptop dv5 with widows 7?  I don't know with certainty what I did - I am 75 with an earthquake - but maybe a uncontrolled double click right while on the desktop.

In any case, all the desktop icons disappeared in one shot!

I have not rebooted - no joy!

    Hello:

Try the system restore utility. Which should return just as you wish.

Here is the link on how to run the system restore if you have never done before.

Although it is possible to remove the arrow, my recommendation is that
you are not doing this. The arrows are an important
function - provide quick visual identification of a shortcut. If you
remove the arrows, you run the risk of substantial that sooner or later
you delete something you want to keep, thinking that you were
just remove a shortcut. I let the arrows that they are.

    Ken Blake (MS-MVP)

According to me, there are situations that are valid for this.  I would like to remove the arrow from shortcuts on the desktop that I keep to certain folders.  I have file extensions on and do not keep the installers on the desktop, so I don't see the harm to remove the arrow of my shortcut 'Documents '.  I never think of Documents is actually stored on the desktop.  And if something, it only would make me more hesitant to delete a shortcut, no more likely to remove a real folder.  I plead to remove the arrow system, but it would be useful for specific desktop icons.  It's obviously the case, because Microsoft has decided to remove the arrow for "user files" folder is added through the control panel "Desktop Icon Settings".

Thanks for your quick response. Unfortunately, the process you gave me failed, because he said that I had no permission to check in the Notepad file. BUT he has given me hope and showed me in the right direction. I had worked at this for 4 days now. I learned a lot through the links you sent me and I could finally get it fixed.

  • Shortcut icons on the desktop/taskbar windows thumbnails prevent display after auto hide

Ive noticed this part of the time in the decades long ongoing saga to get even the simplest parts of windows to work correctly, the taskbar is not reshow auto-hide is because there are some shortcut icons on the side of the taskbar are.  If I move my mouse over the lower part of the screen where there is currently not an icon appears, but if I'm smiling all the way to the side and there's a shortcut, the taskbar often will not see the.  If there is a fix let me know but mostly I write this information cause I wish windows could fix their software to work properly one day. I know that you have a 2 new versions of windows to sell its been years that you have failed to address this simple question, but maybe one day I would actually feel that he still had to pay for a service of microsoft and not feel the need to mod all my Xbox and everything to get half broken services, software, and really bad customer service.

  • Download gTranslate extension. How can I place a shortcut icon on the taskbar module at the bottom of the page so that I can use it?

I added the gTranslate for Firefox extension. It is clearly shown in the list of current extensions that I have. I tried to place a shortcut icon on the toolbar at the bottom of the page module (back side where the page zoom-in/zoom icons are displayed).

Procedure, I used: right click on the empty space on the toolbar at the bottom of page module. Click "Customize". Opens the square shape of the icons, but I don't see anything for the extension of gTranslate, I could "drag / drop" on the toolbar of the add-on.

Ask for help with this issue.

gTranslate not icons. You must select the text, right-click and hover the mouse over the menu item translate... and wait that the translated text to appear. You can also change languages in the submenu, or alternatively via Firefox Tools (Alt + T) > Addons > Extensions, gTranslate Options.
