  • When I start Firefox, a tab replaces another.

Several times when I open Firefox, one of my open tabs in charge as something that is or was in a different tab (usually, this is something that is currently open, but sometimes it is something that has been opened in the last two days). Tab history belongs to the new tab; I can only go back to the old tab by typing the URL. Most often, crushed tab is furthest to the left, but not always.

I initially if it was a tab app or Gmail thing, but since I have stopped using the app tab and leaving Gmail, other tabs have taken the role of the new label.

Sometimes a tab gets also crushed when I refresh it in the middle of a session.

This problem only seems to occur with my group of the main tab; I never saw him perform with other groups of the tab. In addition, I also use Firefox on Windows and have never had the same problem there.

I first noticed this problem with Firefox 6, if I remember correctly; It was every time the app tabs have been introduced.

I tried to disable all my plugins one at a time and it did not help.

Start Firefox in Firefox to solve the issues in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is the cause of the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/tools > Modules > appearance/themes).

  • When I created groups of tabs, should I ALWAYS close by going to Firefox and press quit? Otherwise, I lose my tab groups.

I did experiments with groups of tabs and usually when I leave Firefox I'm going on the red circle on the upper left side of my screen and it closes. However, when I do that I lose my tab groups. I need to know how to leave Firefox and NOT lose my tab groups?

If you click this button, and then you close only the current window, but the Firefox application is still running.

If you have done this then reopen this window closed with App tabs and tab groups via ' history > recently closed Windows "and use Firefox > Quit to close the Firefox application with all the windows open.

It is the only way to preserve the App Tabs and groups of tabs on Mac.

  • When I open too many windows, Firefox slows down

I use Firefox for ever and I am currently using Windows 7 64 bit. As far as I know, that nothing has changed on my end, but Firefox started running slowly after opening the windows of. How I usually use the program and have done for years, is to open pages in a lot of different windows and close them as needed. This does usually cause no problems and I can leave the program running for days at a time, works perfectly well.

Last week however, something changed. Now when Firefox starts up first, it works very well, as expected, but then after a period of time, usually in a day, sometimes within a few hours, it starts sensational "gunked upward." At this point, when I try to load a page in a new window, instead of load instantly, there a second or two, during which I can not move to any other Firefox window, but all other running programs work very well. This State continues and grows slower and slower to load new pages, until I closed and reopened Firefox, then the cycle repeats.

Again, this is a new situation, my normal behavior would not normally cause this kind of slowdown even after a week or more of continuous service. I ran a control of viruses and malware, without success control on either and other programs are not affected. I tried to restart as well, but the problem came back shortly after. I also turned off most of my modules, including those that have worked well for months or years, and still no change, it slogs always down after some time. My Firefox is also currently up-to-date, of course (27.0.1).

    What is going on?

OK, I put some time in troubleshooting and think that I thought about it. After going in and out of safe mode several times, I reduced to a problem with Adblock Plus. With him in the distance, I could open a ton of windows, with it on this subject would begin to slow. A quick workaround solution was that if I went in the menu of the Addon whenever he began to slow down and disabled Adblock and transformed then turn it back on, it would reset the downturn, but I went to their own support site and came across people with the same problem solved by picking up a beta version of the addon. Since the installation, I got no problems.

  • When I run Firefox 4.0 my previously defined App tabs to reopen

Using Firefox 4.0 under Win XP Home SP3 I do 'Pin as App Tab' to several tabs. When I restart Firefox the tabs do not open, either normally or as tabs App. What should I do to reopen automatically on reboot?

@bakerboy: app Tabs can be forgotten if you have set your preferences of Firefox to automatically clear recent history. To check your settings, see the following article: delete the navigation, search and download history on Firefox.

@cdatkins: you have a utility (like CCleaner) which erases your recent history of Firefox?

  • When I open Firefox, it opens my last tab instead of my home page.

When I open the Firefox browser, it opens the last tab I opened instead of my home page. It's getting very annoying since I can't not understand why or how to fix it.

~ I haven't installed a new software, search engines or modules recently that should have done.

~ I checked the control panel > uninstall programs (search by date added) to see if there was adverse dracovenii or plug-ins that have been installed, and I do not see everything.

~ I played with preferences setting it to 'Show my home page', 'show a blank page' and 'my windows and tabs from last time ". But nothing changes.

~ I did some research online to see if anyone else has had this problem, or if there is no solution, that I could find, but I can't find something that sounds like my problem. Especially since what started just around the Firefox update to 31.0 (was it on 30-07-14? quelque_chose like that). But I must admit it seems as it was before... but maybe not.

It's getting a little frustrating that I can't understand why he did this, or how to solve the problem. I hope someone can point me in the right direction for a solution.

    Thank you!

  • Firefox 23.0.1, update is no longer automatically highlights the contents of address bar when I open a new tab.

The foregoing. When I opened a new tab in the past, before the new update, firefox would automatically highlight the text in the address bar, and I couldn't just start typing here the address of the site that I wanted to. I could quickly get anywhere I want in less than a second. Now, I need to drag, and then click on in the bar every time to address. I installed an add-on called "custom newtab", but it slows down just me lower due to a lag between opening a new tab and the add-on kick and highlighting the contents of address bar.
    What is happening is this:
    Click "new tab".
New tab opens blank, and the text appears highlighted "google.co.uk" for about a quarter second.
Loading the Google page and highlight the text becomes not for another second quarter.
The module comes in and highlights the text "google.co.uk" Meanwhile I have already started typing and end up losing the first part of words, sending me random web pages and research.

    Why this change? Difficulty please!

Hi ChrisYeomans, a change has been noted in other threads on google.co.uk

The http URL now automatically redirects to https. Since you did not specify the Protocol in your newtab.url setting, Firefox attempts http and it is immediately redirected to the https domain. You should be able to see this happen unless your computer is much faster than mine.

Firefox does not handle this redirect elegantly - the URL in the address bar is not enabled unless you click a different tab, and then click back.

To work around the problem, update your newtab.url to the URL https://www.google.co.uk/ full

  • Hello. I installed the latest update of Firefox and when I start a new tab page displays not now my entry from google line.please help.tks

Hello. I installed the latest update of Firefox and when I start a new tab page displays not now my google input line. I use Windows 10. Until the recent update (v4.1.01) each time I started a new tab the new page would show the google search entry line which is my default. Can help you to restore this feature? TKS

Hi, 41 of Firefox, you must use the add-on tab override (browser.newtab.url replacement), to make changes to the page tab.

Once installed, open the Add-ons (Ctrl + Shift + A) Manager > Extensions, and then look for the new tab override and click Options to set your preference.

Notice, if you want only the new tab to be the same as your home page, you can use the Add on new tab homepage instead.

You will then need to restart Firefox for all changes to take effect.

If your question is resolved by this or another answer, please take a minute to let us know. Thank you.

  • Firefox is my Start Page, but when I open a new tab, this one is Bing: how to ensure that the Firefox tabs as well?

So Firefox is my start page, it's OK. But if I open a new tab Bing rises when I want Firefox (Cuase it swag ' don't stuff) how should I do?

You can check the browser.newtab.url pref on the topic: config page and set this pref to your preferred the new tab page.

    • the new default tab with the tiles page is on: newtab
    • the default homepage is Subject: Home
    • to a blank page, you can use Subject: vacuum

The pref browser.newtabpage.enabled must be set to true to use the page defined through browser.newtab.url like the new tab page.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/tools > Modules > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is the cause of the problem.

    • Put yourself in the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/tools > Modules > appearance
    • Do NOT click on the reset button on the startup window Mode safe
  • When I open a link that opens a new Firefox window, it opens 2 tabs instead of one. How can I stop this?

When I open a link that opens a new Firefox window, it opens 2 tabs instead of one. A tab is the link that I opened and the second tab is just a generic Mozilla tab with links to 12 pages like Facebook, Youtube, etc. This tab opens on top too, so I always have to close to get what I'm looking for. How can I stop this from happening?

Hello. Thanks for all the posts on this topic. I have the same problem, as described by the op. But, while I use Avast, I have NOT the add-on from Astromenda which has been mentioned. However, I have the SB installed toolbar, and it has been recently updated, 29/12. I suspect that it is the culprit, if this problem is in fact not caused by an update of Firefox (my tiles have recently been reset on new tabs, and I suspect that Firefox for this problem).

I am ready to remove the toolbar from the SB, but prefer to keep it (Yes, I admit I'm stupid) If this annoying 'new window = 2 tabs with 'new tab' at the top' would just leave.

Apart from the removal of the toolbar SB... does anyone have suggestions? I don't see that all recently added add-ons/extensions that I don't recognize, apart from the update of the toolbar of SB.

Updated: 5 minutes after this announcement, I disabled the toolbar of SB and restarted Firefox. No change.
