When I try to system restore it asks which program I want to open with

I had spyware called "vista defender pro" on my computer, so I downloaded "super anti-spyware", scanned my computer with it and deleted the spyware with it.  Now, many programs have disappeared so I want a system restore, but when I click on system restore it asks me to choose the program I want to use to open the file.  What can I do?

When I go to open a file a box comes up to choose what program I want to open with.  At the bottom of this box is a place where I'm supposed to be able to check who always says "use this program to open this file" I can't check this box.  I open office.org and it allows to automatically save in this format.  Microsoft word program has been installed on my computer and he began to do what I said above then my daughter-in-law.  I've since removed the Microsoft Word program, but it continues to make me choose program to open whenever I try to open a document that was created after she comes to settle the Microsoft word porgram.  Now, even if I had clicked on save in openoffice.org, with that I always get this box asking me what program I want to open.  Thank you for your help.  Marilyn.

I guess the box to "always use the selected program to open this kind of file" is grayed out, and that's why you can not check it out.  Is this correct?  Is this true for the two files that were created in OpenOffice files AND that were created in Microsoft Word (note that created is the same that that edited not)?

  • Shortcuts to programs, EXE files does not open (you will be asked which program I want to use to open the file)

My system has developed a strange (and annoying) issue that no longer allows me to double click on the shortcuts of programs or EXE files.  When I do, I give myself a menu asks me what program I want to use to open the file, as if I was trying to open a file with an extension that is not associated with.

The only way to get all the programs to run more is to right click on the shortcut and select "Run as Administrator".

Right click on the shortcut also reveals a new 'momentum' (Yes, spelled with one S tiny) option in the menu.  I have not tried it works, in my view, it could be related to some false recently-removed security software that appeared out of nowhere last night.

Any help to remedy this situation and get back to normal functionality would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

If program shortcuts are not no longer works, you will need to use a procedure special difficulty fo files .lnk (similar to the one used above with .exe files).

  • Error - the file name, directory name or volume label syntax is incorrect. "(0x8007007B), when you exit the system restore.

    Original title: System Restore problems

Hello, I am running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit classic mode.  My system specs are listed under my signature.

Before installing a program today, I went to create a system restore point.  In system properties > System Protection, I see that in the Protection settings > disks available there are two instances of the C: drive tagged like this:

    HDD0 (C :) (System) Protection on (selected)
    HDD0 (C :) (Missing) Protection on

This is probably due to having recently replaced my C: drive with a disk larger to help to restore from a System Image backup.  The installation seems to succeed.  (I use now!)

Note: other readers in Protection settings are showing off Protection.

When I clicked on "Set up" in system properties > System Protection, I have seen that in the restoration of settings, the box "Turn off active Protection" has been selected.  I put the option button "restore system settings and previous versions of files.  In space, the slider was set to 0.  I put it to 1% (857,54 MB).

When I tried to leave the system of Protection for the dialog to HDD0 (c) I got this error:

There was an unexpected error in the property page:
The file name, directory name or volume label syntax is incorrect.  (0x8007007B)
Close the property page and try again.

I deleted all restore points, then created a new restore point.  Current usage shows now 29,48 MB.  I still get the error when I try to the OK from the dialog box.  When I click on the system restore and start the Restore Wizard that I can see the restore point, I just created.

Any help to banish the fake player available and messages will be appreciated greatly.

I am running a version of Microsoft "Vista." I want to do a "System Restore" to a date earlier than the 'Restore Point System' which is steeped in external memory of my terminal (and apparently in memory of boarding school of the terminal).  The terminal shows only the "System Restore Point" that I had introduced manually; How replace this erroneous 'system Resote Date Point' so that I can get rid of things that I wish were not included in the drive of my terminal?  Specifically, the "Ready Boost" option has ruined my terminal memory drive; That's why I want to get rid of with a "restoration of memory", but there is no other precedents "System Restore" options.

  • Windows Update, sent the 16/10/2009 stops HP Total Care of work, need to do system restore to get the programs to work.

Do system restore to get the programs to work. programs worked fine until Windows updated 10/16/2009

Never, EVER use system restore to 'Cancel' an update, Windows Service Pack, or upgrade of IE! If you feel that an update is the cause of a problem, first uninstall the update. If the problem persists, then you can try the system restore.

Please indicate your full version of Windows (for example, WinXP SP3;) Vista 64 - bit SP2; Win7 RC. Win7 RTM) when you post in a forum or a newsgroup.

Can you tell us what updates have been installed?
