Test the hard drive with a diagnostic utility downloaded from site of the disc mftr. or use SeaTools for BACK of Seagate. You create a bootable CD with the files you download. You will need a third party burning software to do as the free ImgBurn, Nero or Roxio. Burn as an image, not in the form of data.

http://Seagate.custkb.com/Seagate/CRM/selfservice/search.jsp?docid=201271 (how-to)
Boot with the CD that you have done and do a full test of the reader. The physical tests fail, replace it.
On tests of hardware failures often alleged swapping parts by parts checked. If you can not do the test yourself and/or are uncomfortable opening your computer, take the machine to a professional computer repair shop (not your local equivalent of BigComputerStore/GeekSquad). I'm not a computer whizz and now I fear I can have made a big mistake when I thought I was doing something safe.
So here's the story, I wanted to do a little more space on my drive hard because I don't have but a small memory netbook. After the usual cleaning disc and other things, I also saw a tick box option to compress all the files and folders on the c: / drive. I checked this box and everything was fine until I stop and it works even today.
As soon as the first image - the HP logo disappears (with instructions following key below '
= change Boot Device Order' and ' = ' configuration Options of the BIOS) I get a black screen with the following script in the upper right: "BOOTMGR is compressed"... and below, «press Ctrl + Alt + Delete to restart»
However, when I do restart, nothing chages and I come back to the same message over and over. I think its pretty obvious that my 'sting' autour potentially screwed up things good and clean and I would be very grateful if someone knows how to solve my problem and what to do. I tried to study the question, already and so far, I think I might have to reinstall windows, but when I bought this netbook, windows has been installed for me so I did not drive. I don't even have a hard drive anyway. I also read on the windows troubleshooting pages who put the pressing F8 repeatedly until 'start it again from the last record in the point' etc options but it did not work either... unless I'm doing it wrong.
I hope I gave enough information above so that someone is able to help. Thank you for your time and I'll look forward all the answers and I hope that the answer.

This is a popular problem with computers HP they have written an article about this (in other words, what happens often):
http://h10025.www1.HP.com/ewfrf/wc/document?LC=en&DLC=en&cc=us&DocName=c01872275
Compression is not a bad thing, but in the world where the disk storage is cheap usually not worth - you just buy more storage or maintenance disk Dome (remove things). Compression can actually slow down the performance of your system too. I think it's just sort of a vestige of the old days and can have negative consequences today.
Using the HP article, you can repair your system in seconds after getting into the Recovery Console.
There is a similar problem with systems not HP where the ntldr file may get compressed and solve it is a little different, but the concept is the same and only takes a few seconds to fix.
You will not engage in any kind of Mode safe either.
Enter the Recovery Console may be the biggest challenge.
You have a genuine XP bootable installation CD? This is not the same as any type of System Recovery CD which might come with your system. If you do not, you will need to make a bootable CD from Recovery Console by using a system of work - or physically move your HARD drive to a system that works, repair and put back.
Your system model number not specified there a CD player?

I just bought the RCD, they came on Saturday so what is happening that I can't recover this computer?
It seems to happen on disk 1, and starts the 2 ok, she comes to end with the finishing touch, click on it it stops. After the reboot, I get another screen with a finishing touch and click on it, then it restarts, and then I get the BOOTMGR missing...
anyone has an ideas are the RCD is defective? did lose money encouraging them, just to get those defective?
Thank you for any ideas and help

Hello:
Sometimes, recovery disks don't work much matter what you do.
You can install W7 without Dell logo using the method below.
If you can read the Microsoft windows 7 25-character product key, you can download simple Windows 7 ISO files to burn on a DVD for the version of windows that is installed on your PC, and which is listed on the Microsoft COA sticker on your PC case.
Burn the ISO with the option to burn the ISO on your DVD burning program and burn it at the slowest possible speed that will allow your program. This will create a bootable DVD.
Or use the installation of Windows 7 USB/DVD tool to compile the ISO file that you download from Digital River. Link and instructions below. You need a 4 GB flash drive to use the USB compilation method.
http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msstore/HTML/pbPage.Help_Win7_usbdvd_dwnTool
Use 25 characters on the PC product key to activate the installation.
The key will activate a 32 or 64 bit installation.
Then go to the support of the PC and driver page to install the drivers you need.
Link to downloads ISO of W7 is below.

The website has encountered a problem and cannot display the page you are trying to view. It was a mistake to install IE8 before SP3. You have to uninstall it and go back to IE6!
It is quite possible that your SP3 download had corrupted. Delete and re-upload the file .exe from this page:It is the name of the file you need:WindowsXP-KB936929-SP3 - x 86 - ENU.exeSize: 316.4 MBValue of SHA1:c81472f7eeea2eca421e116cd4c03e2300ebfde4If you need a utility to determine the value of SHA1, I recommend HashCalc:Once you have confirmed that your installation of SP3 folder is perfect, THEN you can install it (preferably while physically disconnected from the Internet). You will first need to set up a clean boot:If you need the IE8 Setup file, you can download that from this page:Yet once, upgrade to SP3, first of all, THEN to update IE6 to IE8. :-) -

HP Pavilion 503 with windows XP.
Did you do a recovery with the recovery partition or recovery discs? Try another recovery. If you run of F10 at power on, look for an option on the first screen, will give a clean reinstall.

Nothing happens, when I press ctrl + alt + delete
Nothing happens, when I press ctrl + alt + delete LOCK THE COMPUTER, CHANGE PASSWORD, SHUTDOWN, LOG OFF ETC. I WORK IN WINDOWS 2007 OPERATING SYSTEMLooks like you may have a virus or other malware. Get your updated antivirus program and boot into Safe Mode. Note that some viruses can hide from your normal antivirus program, so you really need to scan in Safe Mode. To enter in Safe Mode when you turn on first, press F8 on every seconds until you get the menu, and then select Safe Mode. Then run a complete system scan.

If that suits him fine. If this is not the case, use system restore to go back to an earlier date at the beginning of the problem. To run system restore, click Start-> programs-> Accessories-> System Tools-> system restore. Click on the box that says show more restore points.
-
You can check the corrupted system files. Open an administrator command prompt and run SFC if the above does not help. Click START, and then type CMD in the search box, right-click on CMD. EXE and click run as administrator. Then, from the command prompt type sfc/scannow.
-
Finally if all else fails, you can look at the rather cryptic system event log. To make, click Start-> Control Panel-> administration-> event viewer tools. Once in Event Viewer system log-click and scroll entries looking for these "error" with indicator see if you can find guidance on where the problem may be.

When you get your system in good working condition, I invite you to back up your system up to an external hard drive and make it regular periodic updates.

Perhaps, you just need to wait for a while for Firefox download.
Perhaps, it is an extension/plugin slowing your Firefox.
When I close Firefox in the evening, it closes slowly and uses 50% of CPU. It unloads after several (30? 60?) seconds.
