the manufacturer of the laptop is

Contact the computer manufacturer and ask them to send you to vista recovery disks to reinstall the operating system back as it was when you bought it

they do it for a nominal cost of $

or borrow a vista microsoft dvd; not a HP, Acer recovery disk etc

Make sure that you borrow the correct 32-bit or 64-bit microsoft dvd to your computer

they contain all versions of vista

This is the product key that determines which version of vista is installed

To begin troubleshooting, follow these steps:

    1. Make sure that Device Manager is open, and that the device that has the problem is selected. You can perform certain resolutions recommended by the Device Manager.

      1. Right-click my computerand then click Properties.
      2. Select the hardware tab, and then click Device Manager.
      3. Double-click the type of device that has the problem. For example, if you have problems with your modem, double-click Modems to see the devices in that category.

A list of devices appears. If a device has problems, the unit has a red exclamation mark next to it. If a device is unknown (usually because of missing drivers), the device has a yellow question mark next to it.

      4. Right click on the device that has the problem, and then click Properties. This opens the device properties dialog box. You can see the error code in the State of the device of this dialog box.
    2. Use the Troubleshooting Wizard, if it is available, to help you diagnose and solve your problem.
      1. In the device properties dialog box, click the general tab.
      2. Click troubleshoot to start the Troubleshooting Wizard. The wizard will ask a few simple questions and provides a solution to your problem, based on the answers you provide. If the Troubleshooting Wizard is not available, go to step 3.
      3. Follow the resolution steps provided by the wizard to resolve the problem.
      4. Check the device status of the device properties dialog box to see if the error is resolved. If the error is resolved, you are finished. Otherwise, go to step 3.

As you have discovered. Vista Basic does not work
include a DVD decoder. See the following link:

    Info about DVD decoders:

  • How can I get the fix for Vista Home Premium described in kb313222 reset the default security to be permanent? Reboot made my sharing failure once again.

I ran the command secedit / configure according to the kb313222, but I find I have to redo the command after that I reload.

Also, as a side note, my standard connections have simply disabled, so all I had to do was to reactivate in user accounts.

    Hello Halima S,.

Thanks for the replies and the direction that worked - somewhat.  I agree that the script is very nice, but I also saw that he really did exactly what I had done before.  However, as the source of the information and of the validity of the script I have very slow and tested every step this time before restarting and found that when I re-enabled the guest sharing connection stopped working.

My hypothesis is that if the protection of password for sharing is enabled, then a connection without password fails the initial security checks and therefore do not allow all connections.

The only thing that I forgot that "what has changed", is that we had a visitor, so I enabled the guest account, or I had the chronology wrong since between the two, I went to an open wifi and disabled sharing now so naturally I thought I was doing something irreversible.

    Thanks again,
    Tony

    Hey cinpul330

You cannot use recovery CD to reset your password

you need to reinstall vista using these cds you did

boot from the first cd and follow the instructions to reinstall vista

Additionally, you may not get help in these forums to retrieve your forgotten password because it is against the policy of microsoft to do

  • A Vista Home Premium key is usable in Vista Home Basic?

    Hi all

A friend asked me to reinstall her PC at home that does not have Vista Home Premium installed and a key tag takes precedence over the box - but no recovery on the HARD drive partition

I only have media for Vista Home Basic used as well as the thought that the key Premium would work with Basic as it's a version below, but it is not.

There are 2 disks of Vista: one for 32-bit operating system, and one for 64-bit operating system.

If install a cleaning is required with a good DVD of Vista (not HP, Dell recovery disks):

Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.

  • Windows complete PC Restore on Vista Home Basic, how to create a system disk image

In the menu system for Vista Home Basic Recovery Options, there is an option to make a "Windows complete PC Restore". The description of this option says "restore your entire server or personal computer from a backup image. Well, sounds wonderful.
