Where the virtual machine is stored on a Mac

I know that the virtual machine is stored on the hard drive by default but I have additional disks internal and external drives connected and I prefer to put the VM on one of them so that I can give him a decent amount of space.  Is this possible and if so, how?

Thank you

David

As you walk through the Wizard New VM, you can choose to save it where you want.

  • How to set vm-description/notes and get the name of the data store, where the virtual machine

    Hello guys,.
    I have vCenter Orchestrator 4.1.1 build 733 installed and it works fine, but I need your help for the following two issues:
    (1) I want to put the description/notes of a virtual machine using a workflow. But I have not found any API useful to create this workflow (I don't want custom attributes, see attachment for details).

    (2) how can I get the name of the data store, where the virtual machine? I need this name for a workflow.
    I need your help.
    Thanks in advance!

    With regard to the notes of the VM, the following code (see enclosed package) can do this:

    var oldNotes = vm.summary.config.annotation;
    If (oldNotes == null) {oldNotes = ' ' ;}}
    System.log ("Notes of VM current:" + oldNotes);
    Now put the new notes:
    Start by creating a context
    Context of var = new VcVirtualMachineConfigSpec();
    Update the annotation with the new value property
    configSpec.annotation = notes;
    launch the task to reconfigure the virtual machine with the new context
    NOTE: This is sure to apply with a virtual machine under tension
    var task = vm.reconfigVM_Task (configSpec);

    And, in what concerns the VM information, take a look at the workflow of the library: \Library\vCenter\Virtual Machine management\Others\Extract virtual machine information

    Where the photos are normally stored on a Mac computer? In the folder images in the Finder on my Mac, I have a file named "Library.photoslibrary Photos" i.e. 28.52 gb and another folder called 'iPhoto Library.migratedphotolibrary' i.e. 4.95 GB, but then I have also on the 160 other photo and video files in the same folder. But in my Photos app, it says that I have 6 260 'elements '.

    The pictures that you have imported into the photo library are, by default, stored inside the package (not file) "Library.photoslibrary Photos" in your pictures folder. The 'iPhoto Library.migratedphotolibrary' package would contain photos that have been stored in your library, iPhoto at the time of the migration.

    The other files in the pictures folder are that: other files. Also, they can be in libraries if you imported and has not deleted the copies lying around in the images.

  • How do I create standard vSwitches in a HA cluster where the virtual machine switches to the same network?

    I have a lab put in place with 2 hosts 5.5 ESXi and vCenter.  I want to create a situation where each virtual machine must have a dedicated network card.  If I create vSwitchABC on host 1, what should I do on host 2?  Create vSwitchABC on that host too and connect it to the same physical switch?  Which will allow the host 1 failure and the virtual machine to arrive on host 2 on the network because the same vSwitch names?

    Thank you!

    Welcome to the community-Yes, you need to create a vswitch on host 2 has a virtual machine port group with the same name on host 1 connection on the same subnet as connected to the host - 1

  • The virtual machine files

    Hello;

    Just noticed that in my data store, there are several folders to a single virtual machine, e.g. VM-Marketing, it also has Marketing_1-VM and VM-Marketing_2.

    When I go on the 'change settings' of this virtual machine, in the hardware tab, and on the hard drive, it's going to [datastore] VM-Marketing_2/VM - Marketing.vmdk.

    Then in the General Options in the 'Options' tab, the Configuration of the VM tab is [datastore] VM-Marketing_2/VM - Marketing.vmx

    It seems that my VM it working in the VM-Marketing_2 file in the data store, what about the other two?, this virtual machine, it is quite heavy, it has a 80 GB HARD drive and I have 3 of them if total 240 GB, so can I remove them?, is there something I can do atin the VCenter?

    Thanks for your time...

    Welcome to the community - VM when is created ESX, it will use the name of the default computer name of directory where the virtual machine and its files will be stored - if a directory with that name already exists, it increments the directory with _1, _2 etc - so I am betting by the same VMs na, e were created before the one you have currently in production - Maybe the intention had been to delete these virtual machines, but when they have been deleted, rather than by selecting delete from the disk - remove inventory has been selected which will keep the directory structure.

    Hello

    I found the solution.

    I disabled the JOB BE general relativity.

    and the host where the virtual machine belong was not the right time. No Ntp server has been configured.

    I did and now there works.

    I think that the problem can come from this.

  • How to change the network when the virtual machine is connected, in Vmware ESXi with Perl in Linux?

    Hello

    If someone can answer that the way to change the network of a VM with Perl? I would periodically change the network where the virtual machine network adapter is connected.

    Thank you

    Take a look at the vGhetto repository of scripts, where you can find a lot of useful scripts, including updateVMPortgroup.pl , which may contain what you are looking for.

  • Limitation of the Virtual Machine's CPU/memory resources.

    Hello

    My question on the tab "resources" with VMachine settings (I hope I picked the right branch here)

    In this tab I put a booking/Limit for CPU/memory for current VMachine.

    I have a cluster about 6 ESX servers with resource by default and a VMachine inside pool. VMachine have 1 CPU. Each ESX have 2 plugs with 4 core per socket. Each base equal to 2, 83GHz. Def.

    In this case, which by default configuration for an average CPU for this VMachine limitaion - 132582 MHz? Because in practice ESX server can give only 1 CPU for this VMachine and this CPU will have 2, 83GHz only...

    Also, I put 100% of CPU - 132582 MHz booking here... But in true VMachine will never receive this resource...

    Same question about limitation of memory...

    When this limitation will work? For what porpose such booking/limitaion here?

    Re: But, if I'm going to make a mistake and this CPU for VM value reserve, which is more physical limitation - it reduces resources processor for other VMs on a value that is more than the physical limitation of the virtual computer?

    No, the reservation only guarantees that if a virtual machine wants to take a large part of the resource at a given time VMware should give him.  If there is ever going to be a situation where the virtual machine is in fact to consider that much so it never gets allocated to this virtual machine and the amount of the resource remains available for other virtual machines to use.  Similarly, if the virtual machine just does not use the amount of the booking to a point in time, he let this resource can be used by other virtual machines.

    If a virtual computer uses only 1 GHz on a core 3 GHz system, at a given time but thereservation is 2.5 GHz, 1.5 GHz between its use and booking that is not used at this time is available for other VMS to use.  That is only if there is a period of contention between VM and VM CPU wishing to use mean 2.8 GHz it would be guaranteed to get 2.5 GHz independently of the parameters of the actions on the VM from other virtual machines.

    It is essentially the same thing with memory except that the memory usage is not as CPU flunctuate and VMware must also use more complex methods to reallocate the memory, but the leaders of the way in which it is shared using actions, reservations and limit is the same.

  • VMWare Fusion makes a break from the virtual machine because the disk is almost full.

    Is I myself am sitting at my computer this morning, I saw a message that says the guest system Windows XP Pro on my Mac Mini has been suspended.  Here is the message:

    "VMware Fusion has suspended this virtual machine because the disk on which the virtual machine is stored is almost full."

    I can't find a way to shut down Windows to resize hard disk space allocation.  I tried the Virtual Machine menu, but all the shut down/put off the power points are grayed out.

    Any ideas out there?

    You must read the message!

    BTW if force you the VM to the bottom you may corrupt the virtual system hard disk and or the VHD file and you need to just do as the message says and free up space on the OS X hard disk even if you temporarily move a few things on an external hard drive so that you can then reactivate the Virtual Machine and continue on the it.

  • VMWAre HA MUST have an MS cluster so that the virtual machine have to reboot?

    This statement is correct?

    HA does not have 0 downtime. There is a period where the virtual machines will be inaccessible until the node determines she is isolated and HA procedures begin.

    The clustering of MS bit is the Microsoft implementation of virtualization also HypeV, it does not provide 100% uptime as the cluster failover event takes time to complete.

    Now, I hear with continuous availability ESX 4, we get 100% uptime on the VMS during outages of the host, but we will have to wait and see.

  • One of the virtual machine gets the APIPA address after you have configured with a static IP address, where the other VMS works very well with same vlan with static IP

    We have deployed 3 VMs with the same vlan where one virtual machine gets APIPA address, even after the configuration of the IP address manually.

    We do not have servers DHCP and other VMs 2 find with the same vlan

    No IP address is not used by another system and another IP address works

    Meanwhile, I just googled and got a God save the link that helped me in the question of fixing

  • Where to put the virtual machine in a field of muti-user PC?

    Have the virtual machine just like I want but its currently located under the user name of the administrator who was connected when it is created.  Is there a better way to put the file to the Virtual Machine somewhere NOT specific user to all connected users can access from a shortcut on the desktop?  Thank you.

    Hello.

    You can place it everywhere where is most convenient.  I usually use something short like C:\VMs, so I can't look away!

    Good luck!

  • Mount an .iso that is stored IN the virtual machine.

    Briefing Note: deploy us thin client on several campuses. Create us the model, deploy in each site, and then rebuild each pool. We now need to mount an image file .iso for one of the required programs. The .iso image file cannot be mounted with the software of in the virtual environment, because it uses a software of PortectDISC. We have the right number of drives, but customers have no disk drives.

    Problem: Since deploying the model, we must include the file .iso with her image. Normally, you would ride a .iso manually. However, load the file on each remote server .iso image and enter in each of hundreds of machines virtual one at a time to set the .iso way are not possible. Mount the .iso image file is our only option. Is there a way to store the .iso image file in the hard disk of the virtual machine and the virtual machine settings to rise from this point .iso? Or is it possible to include the image .iso with the model file when we deploy it is with each virtual machine and the path in the settings is already pointing to it?

    We tried to put the file .iso image on a store of data on one of our ESX servers, and then modified the model gold on this machine to point to the .iso image file. We reconstructed the pool, and the image .iso file mounted correctly. The problem with that is that we have 20 + machines trying to access the same file at the same time. Let the first few machines work, but the rest said it had disc read errors. So, we want to each machine to have its own .iso.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Hello

    I have to add a warning that I use not models, but I don't think it is very relevant to my answer.

    @wila: well, I had thought about it, but when deploy us the image, it will automatically change the path to the file? For example, if we note the virtual drive to mount the .iso file to "\vm_template\cd.iso", then deploy, each of the virtual machines will not have this same path in their settings? Then they will all point to '\vm_template\cd.iso' instead of their own institution ' "\vm_##\cd.iso? '" If so, this would require we go each of hundreds of machines and set up manually every time that we deploy a model.

    If you do not add a path, then the iso that the virtual machine will try to open will be local to the virtual machine. You can simply do this by copying the vm to the path of your virtual machine, for example "[storage1] \vm_template" and affecting the CD this specific path.

    As is the same way, you can wait for the vSphere client is smart enough, it does not remove the path for drives in such a case, but not for CD...

    To use the vSphere Client to create the bases so far

    What I just did, go in the vmx file, deleted information path of superfluous and only left the name of the iso file, and all the true startConnected, not the virtual machine to make sure that my edit is OK, again registered the VM in the vSphere client, then started my VM and mounted the cdrom without any problem whatsoever.

    So - as expected - it works fine the iso file is local to the virtual machine and the local path comes first unless you assign specifically it different in the vmx file.
