VMWAre HA MUST have an MS cluster so that the virtual machine have to reboot?

This statement is correct?

HA does not have 0 downtime. There is a period where the virtual machines will be inaccessible until the node determines she is isolated and HA procedures begin.

The clustering of MS bit is the Microsoft implementation of virtualization also HypeV, it does not provide 100% uptime as the cluster failover event takes time to complete.

Now, I hear with continuous availability ESX 4, we get 100% uptime on the VMS during outages of the host, but we will have to wait and see.

  • Changing the settings of Cluster SWAP without the virtual machine downtime

    Hi all

My question refers to the vSphere 5.0 version.

I need to change the settings of my VMware Cluster swap file.

It is set to "store the swap file in the data specified by the host store.

I want to change it to "store the file in the same directory as the virtual machine.

Can I do this without the VM downtime?

    Kind regards

    Martin

You can change the setting in the cluster without affecting your running virtual machines, but virtual machines will not use this new setting until they have been rolled power.

  • Is it possible to recover all the virtual machines in a cluster in a single web service call?

I tried to retrieve the list of all virtual machines in a cluster to a single web service call, but to no avail. It seems that there is no direct web service API to achieve this goal. Alternative options must first recover the hosts or data warehouses in the cluster and then recover virtual machines from there. But still, if anyone has an idea how we can do this please let me know. All help information will be greatly appreciated.

It is possible, if you use the PropertyCollector.

(It is usually the answer to questions of the form "Is it possible to retrieve the X in a single web service call").

    Call"propertycollector.retrievecontents:

    http://www.VMware.com/support/developer/VC-SDK/visdk41pubs/ApiReference/vmodl.query.PropertyCollector.html#retrieveContents

allows you to retrieve a whole bunch of stuff in a single call, which you then have to go through and interpret.

  • Access to the BlackBerry through the USB port on the virtual machine VMWare

I have my development environment configuration in VMWare virtual machine, and I have no problems of deployment of BlackBerry applications on a simulator that runs as another virtual machine. The problem starts when I try deploying to the device via the USB port. The address is assigned when the mode of development on the device is not accessible from the VM, but only from my host, who do me any good, since as I said my IDE is in the virtual machine. A way to solve this problem? I can still deploy to the device via wi - fi (which is btw access via different ip - one given by the network) by this can sometimes be slow depending on the strength of the signal, etc, so I prefer to be able to deploy via the USB port.

Just in case anyone has the same problem, how to activate must, VMWare Player click on the USB icon (to the right) and choose to disconnect from the host. Connecting the USB port at the prompt. Stupid...

  • How to activate the Internet connection on Windows Server 2003 is installed in the virtual machine in VMware Workstation 8?

I have Windows Server 2003 is installed on a virtual machine in VMware Workstation 8. I need it to learn and practice the use of the Active Directory. I've also set up 3 Windows XP workstations connect to it, which means that they can communicate with Server 2003. What is lacking is the Internet connection on all of them. When I run ping 8.8.8.8 in one of these virtual machines, I get, 'Destination host unreachable.'

I'm not sure, what if the problem comes from the settings in Windows or the settings of the virtual machine.

    Can someone help me?

Thank you, guys. I was finally able to put in place. It was quite an ordeal to deal with IP addresses and virtual networks. Here's how I did (in the screenshots) in case someone else needs it.

(I also confess that it is perhaps one of the ways to implement. Maybe there is an easier way to do it with DHCP...)

    1. in your computer where is installed VMware Workstation 8 begin the "Virtual Network Editor." It is located in the folder of installation of VMware Workstation. And implement the network following (VMnet2 in my case):

2 then in VMware Workstation itself in the virtual machine when Windows Server 2003 is installed set up two network as connections:

This one is for external access to the Internet:

And this one for intranet communications AD:

    3. then in the machine virtual de Windows Server 2003 set up what follows for two network adapters:

    For Internet access:

Then, you need allow this connection to share:

And then for the ad access to workstations (ensure that the static IP address is in the range specified in the virtual network over VMnet2 network editor). I've also set up DNS to 127.0.0.1 because I installed on this Windows 2003 DNS server:

    4. from the Windows 2003 VM try ping 8.8.8.8. It should work now.

    5. go to each workstation, in my case, Windows XP, each in its own virtual machine and set up the network in the VMware Workstation as follows:

    6. then in the virtual machine, configure the network connection for Windows XP workstation. Don't forget to assign a new static IP address for each workstation, which not coinside with IP of the domain (this IP address must come from the range specified in the virtual network over VMnet2 network editor):

    7. try first ping the domain, in my case ping 192.168.237.128. And then Internet, ping 8.8.8.8. The two should work!

    Continue with steps [5-7].

  • Unable to start the CD player Win2003 Server / removable on the virtual machine: VMware-8(Host: Win7)

    vmware_error.jpg

    Hello

I am unable to start Win 2003 Server CD disk / removable on a Virtual Machine (the two VMWare 6 and 8). The snap-snap-in error is attached. I have the right configuration of the BIOS to Boot priority, but is taking the PXE ROM option.

    Please help me.

    Thank you

    Remy

    Hello

    1. it doesn't matter that the 'connected' is checked which is normal. "Connect at power on" is important and must be checked that it is on the screenshot.

    2. now, change the "autodetect" option to point to your 'real' cdrom device (that this laptop has).

3 If this does not convert your cdrom ISO image 2003 and load through the second option that says "use an iso image.

    4. If this still does not work there is only one possible "your 2003 cdrom is NOT bootable. The fact that it autoruns IN Win7 does not mean that is bootable. You should check by placing it in a different machine of cdrom, restart this computer, bios in order to boot from CDROM/DVD first and see if the change boots. If it does not start even from there then for sure this cd is NOT bootable. So, the important thing is to load the cd on time to start and not inside the operating system to work.

    5. try to download an iso of the trial of the internet windows Server 2003 and use that one to see what is happening.

    6. create a new virtual machine and try here or even better to try another machine with Workstation 8 and see what happens.

    7. it is no coincidence if the CD-ROM drive is not recognized within the virtual machine.

  • Share the virtual machine created in VMWare Player

    Hi all

I created a virtual machine Ubuntu based using VMWare Player. The goal of this virtual machine is so it can be used for demonstrations on our societies SaaS based appliction. So basically the image works fine now, I have a few questions:

    1. what format should I send them the virtual machine? (i.e. can I just compress the virtual machine directory)

    2. If open the image in VMWare Player if he invites asking them 'have you copied"/"Moved"the virtual machine? Can I avoid this?

    3. it will work on their equipment?

    Any help appreciated.

    See you soon

    I can help you with your questions;

    1. what format should I send them the virtual machine? (i.e. can I just compress the virtual machine directory)

Zipper the VM directory should work correctly, it will just extract somewhere on their machine to run it.

    2. If open the image in VMWare Player it will ask asking them

"You copied" / "Moved" the virtual machine? Can I avoid

    This?

To the best of my knowledge, you can't avoid it, and they should probably answer "copied" in the situation you describe.

    3. it will work on their equipment?

It's a pretty loaded question.  Obviously, it must be run the Intel instruction set and have a Player version available for their OS.  I ran with success of virtual machines on a laptop Centrino 1.6 GHz single core, but startup performance left a little to be desired.  I think that a minimum of 1 GB of memory for a host running XP or Linux, probably at least 2 GB for one of the more recent Windows operating systems.  More memory would be better, but it will probably work with what I suggested.  Of course, player must be installed on these hosts.  Then make sure that the parameter memory your VM is as small as you can reasonably do.

I have provided virtual machines by providing copies of the record, and they worked very well.  In my case, I created my VMs on my Mac with Fusion, but then run it with Fusion or player.

  • The virtual machine must be moved to another host?

vCenter 4 runs on a virtual machine on vHost1. When you try to run an update for the virtual server that I have this message.

The host has a VM VMware vCenter Update Manager or VMware installed vCenter vCenter. The virtual machine must be moved to another host for the remediation process to move forward.

Before moving running virtual machine to a different host to vCenter, I thought I should ask if there is a better way to update vHost1?

Thanks for your help. This is all quite new to me.

Use VMotion to move your vCenter guest, you'll be fine.  Or if you have any DRS value fully automated when restore you one or more hosts DRS will move all of your guests.

  • Virtual Center stops all the virtual machines in a cluster HA

    Hello.

I have a question about vCenter machine. We have deployed

VMware ESX 4.0 HA cluster on Server Blade IBM 3. VCenter machine resides

on a virtual machine on the same cluster. When we tried to recharge a physical switch (in the)

IBM Blade Center), all our virtual machines on the cluster have been turned off automatically.

If the vCenter VM is turned off, then everything is fine - the reloading of the

Switch is not turning off the virtual machines (and the net is ok - start machines

work through another switch in IBM bladecenter). If the machine vCenter

powers (manually), all the other machines, which have been put off, are powered

on too (automatically, of course, with the help of the machine of vCenter). How

is that what I can adjust the machine vCenter, so it could not power power machines by

    itself automatically?

    ESX 4.0 (162856)

    Hello

Right-click in your cluster, change the settings. Select 'Virtual Machine Options' under 'Vmware HA' and choose the host response of insulation desired for the entire cluster or individual VM. If you do not have network connections redundant between your ESX machines, you probably want the virtual machine for when you need to do maintenance or your network switch died. You should probably also disable HA while doing maintenance. You should consider to build network redundancy in the case of a production environment.

    I hope that helps!

  • 7 - fusion '3D Acceleration requires an update of the VMware tools in the Virtual Machine'

    Hello

I installed the free Fusion 7 trial this week on my iMac and subsequently installed Windows 8.

The resolution of the screen under Windows is very low compared to the Mac OS.

In addition, I have the warning message in the Windows display settings:

'3D acceleration requires an update of the VMware tools in the Virtual Machine'

I also note that the display driver in Windows is the display driver database with Microsoft.

A few weeks ago I installed version 6 of Fusion and it worked very well.

    Any ideas?

    Thank you

    John.

Take a look at the installation and the use of the VMware tools and more spicifically to manually install or upgrade VMware Tools in a Windows Virtual Machine.

If by chance, VMware Fusion is not properly mounting image VMware Tools windows.iso file then you have to do it manually.  It is located in "/ Applications/VMware Fusion.app/Contents/Library/isoimages/windows.iso" and will have to be copied, not moved, in a location that is accessible out of the bundle of VMware Fusion.app as the office.  If you need to do this, you can right click on the bundle of VMware Fusion.app see the content of the selection box and access its location to copy.  To assign the windows.iso on the CD/DVD image, take a look at: Connect and Set Up a CD/DVD Drive

  • How to move the Virtual Machine VMWare Workstation 10 to a completely different computer

I have a laptop that is going to become my 'old' laptop, I bought and am always set up a new computer.

I have a VM THAT evolution created on the 'old' portable using VMWare Workstation 10.  I installed the software VMWare Workstation 10 on the new laptop computer and am ready to move to the existing VM development since the old laptop again to continue the development of software on the virtual machine to the new machine.

I never moved a computer virtual from one computer to another, and I guess that all I have to do is to copy and move the folder and all its content from the old laptop to the new, and then I'll be back in business?

Just make sure it is this simple before doing so.

    Thanks for any input.

It's as simple as that. When you start in the new machine, it should ask if you copied or moved. Answer that you moved it will keep the same MAC address and you will not be able to connect the two copies at the same time. You copied it saying assigns a new MAC and they both can connect, but a Windows machine can ask to reactivate. Seems to me he asked also to reactivate when I copied it for an Intel system AMD system, but it was a long time ago

  • How do I create standard vSwitches in a HA cluster where the virtual machine switches to the same network?

I have a lab put in place with 2 hosts 5.5 ESXi and vCenter.  I want to create a situation where each virtual machine must have a dedicated network card.  If I create vSwitchABC on host 1, what should I do on host 2?  Create vSwitchABC on that host too and connect it to the same physical switch?  Which will allow the host 1 failure and the virtual machine to arrive on host 2 on the network because the same vSwitch names?

    Thank you!

Welcome to the community-Yes, you need to create a vswitch on host 2 has a virtual machine port group with the same name on host 1 connection on the same subnet as connected to the host - 1
