  • How to reinstall Norton Internet Security that was originally installed

    Hello!
    I have a Satellite M40-148 and I need to reinstall Norton Internet Security that was installed initially. I have the DVD-rom of recovery of the product, the additional software CD and I still have the TOOLCD directory, but I can't find the application of Norton.
    Can someone tell me how to?
    Best regards and thanks - Steen

    Hi Steen,

    If your copy of NIS was originally installed when you got your laptop then it will probably have been included on the DVD of recovery in which case there is no way in which you can extract it without performing a reinstall full of your operating system.

    In my case, NIS was delivered on a CD separate provided by people who I bought the laptop so I can re - install from there without a full system restore.

    You could, of course, back up your data and then re - build your original recovery DVD system (just finished it on my A30), and this will give you a good clean system without any of the inevitable clutter that can accumulate.

  • Where I can download a family copy of vista premium, I still have my product key, but any help please o/s

    Hi all my system crashed suddenly & I have no recovery disk is - anyone know where I can download a family copy of vista premium, I always have my product key but no o/s Please help

    Hello

    There are several methods to reinstall Vista.

    See how best suits you.

    This can help you:

    http://www.heidoc.NET/Joomla/technology-science/Microsoft/57-Windows-Vista-direct-download-links

    You can contact your computer manufacturer and ask them to send you a set of recovery disks.

    They should do this for a small fee.

    To reinstall Vista using their recovery disk/s, you start from the 1st recovery disk they provide and follow the manufacturer's instructions to reinstall:

    You need to change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order:

    How to change the Boot order in BIOS:

    http://pcsupport.about.com/od/fixtheproblem/SS/bootorderchange.htm

    "How to replace Microsoft software or hardware, order service packs and replace product manuals.

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/326246

    And if you have never received a recovery disk when you bought your computer, there should be a recovery on the drive Partition hard reinstall Windows how much you bought your computer.

    The recovery process can be started by pressing a particular combination of the key or keys at startup. (Power on / start)

    Maybe it's F10, F11, Alt + F10, etc., depending on the manufacturer.

    Ask them to the proper key sequence.

    And if you do not score a manufacturer of recovery on your hard drive, you should be able to make your own recovery from her disks to reinstall the operating system.

    Go to programs > name of the manufacturer of your computer > then their system or recovery tools software topics for them, depending on how it is formulated.

    If you can't find any reference to it, contact the manufacturer for advice on how to make these recovery disks.

    Some manufacturers have more available Vista recovery disks.

    If this happens, you may need to try this instead:

    You can also borrow and use a Microsoft Vista DVD, which contains the files for the different editions of Vista (Home Basic, Home Premium, Business and Ultimate) must be installed. The product key on your computer / Laptop box determines what Edition is installed.

    Other manufacturers recovery DVDs are should not be used for this purpose.

    And you need to know the version of 'bit' for Vista, as 32-bit and 64-bit editions come on different DVDs

    And once the operating system is installed, go to your computer manufacturer's website and get the latest drivers for your particular model or laptop computer.

    And phone Activation may be necessary when you use the above installation method.

  • I have my product key, but what version I am license for? -Want to re - install

    Hello.  I have a valid 25-character product key for Windows Vista - but do not know what version.
    I want to reinstall a laptop but the license under the laptop sticker is very 'dirty' I can only see the product key of 25 characters and the words "Windows Vista XXXX" but do not know if his home, business or Ultimate.

    Is there a site Web/link that I can put my product key, then they can tell me what version I am licensed?
    P.S. Someone formatted the laptop to test to try Windows 7, it's why I don't know what version I am licensed.

    Kind regards

    There is no website to check.

    This Turorial tells you what to do; Simply type the product key.
    All versions of vista are on the good MS Vista DVD.
    The product key determines what is installed.
    Read the info here to the elder Geek:

    http://www.theeldergeekvista.com/vista_clean_installation.htm

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    http://www.theeldergeekvista.com/images/Vista%20Clean%20Installation/Vista%20Final%20-0019.jpg
    Type your product key in the installation.
    Once more, it's time for the product key and activation talk. Unlike XP and previous offers of Windows that stopped dead if you do not have a product key, it is no longer the case with Vista. You are not required to enter a key at this stage, although there are a few caveats set out on the potential of data loss if you choose not to enter the key. There is also a checkbox to select or not Vista will be automatically activated.
    If you have chosen not to enter the product key in the previous step, this screen will appear asking you to confirm that you do not want to enter the key. The same warning of potential data loss is present and an additional warning was added that you may need to purchase another edition of Vista if you continue without entering the key. Press [Yes] to return to the screen where the key can be entered. Select [No] will take you to the screen below.
    Refusing to enter the product key in the previous step brings you here where you need to select the edition of Windows that you purchased. The warning says clearly that if you select a version, you do not have a key, you must either purchase this version or reinstall Vista and select the appropriate version. This screen is a two-step process; Select the appropriate version and certifying then you have selected the version of Vista by using the checkbox. Once these two items are completed, the [next] button is activated.
    See you soon.
    Hello
    There's a photo guide based on the recovery of your model here...
    http://www.Sony-Asia.com/support/tutorial/381906/product/VGN-fz18g
    If you cannot use this method because what did your friend, your options are...
    • Pay Sony for media recovery
    • A base Windows installation followed by installing specific Sony drivers and software from their Web site.
    If you walk down the road of the latter, I would say that, if possible, before you begin reinstalling Windows you download at least the Ethernet drivers and wireless and save in, for example, a USB key. Start your drivers to search for them (and other) here...
    http://www.Sony-Asia.com/support/product/VGN-fz18g/FAQ
    .. everything will be difficult to download if drivers that allow access to the internet are not native to a new installation of Windows.
    Your principled stand against Sony charges for media recovery is, in my opinion, wrong. As I already said twice...
    If Sony did not provide recovery media that they have provided the means to create them
    If you lost or do not burn them and messed up your recovery partition, it's not for lack of Sony.
    My serious recommendation is to accept a fee of Sony for the recovery media. It will make life much simpler for you. For this reason alone, it is probably useful tax, especially considering that you're obviously not a user advanced. Otherwise, why ask the help of a friend and ask for help on this forum?
    I suspect that the links I've seen on this website are actually only valid for Windows 7 media images. If you do not buy the recovery media and go with an iso image download Vista Home Premium, I have to warn about the following...
    • The legality of this is, at best, questionable
    • If it's not genuine Microsoft media you might end by in an even bigger mess (if it works at all)
  • I have my product key, but not the cd of windows!
    Greetings to all!
    OK, 2 years ago, I bought my laptop. He gave me the laptop but he gave me the windows cd so I can format it and I was pretty beginner do not ask. The thing is that the laptop has the product key (25 digit code) on the real sticker on the back side of the laptop. Then... I want to format my laptop... What are my choices because I don't have the cd? A friend told me that I can download a windows evaluation version and install it and then put my product key where he will ask. Can someone help me? I can't find the right link to download windows. I'm looking 'Windows XP Professional 1-2CPU' sticker product key says. Help :(
    No, it will not work.
    1. most laptops have a factory to restore the image on a special partition on the hard drive. To call the factory restore process, a general starts the computer and press a key of function (such as F10) or a combination of keys (such as Alt + F11). Search tech support website of the computer laptop mftr. to know how to restore your computer if you plant and then do it after saving your data.
    2. If the factory restore image does not exist or does not work, contact technical support of computer laptop mftr. and see if they will sell you a set of recovery disks. This will normally very expensive, around $20-25.
    3 otherwise, either buy a full copy of what version of XP you want (XP Home is less expensive than XP Pro and is fine for most people) and do a clean install of Windows. The copy of the detail will be its own product key that you will use. After installation, be sure to install all the drivers for your laptop. You will get drivers to computer mftr's technical support Web site.
    4. the only other alternative would be to take your computer to a local technician who can install Windows using a generic OEM installation disc or brand. Of course, it will be free, and you will not have the OS disk to keep later, so this isn't really the best scenario for you. #1 or #2 are the best choices.
