Which laptop for complex excel calculations?

Hello world

I would like to buy a new laptop. The laptop must be very powerful I've mainly use for very large, complex financial excel templates (a lot of data and number of array formulas and scenario analyses, for example monte carlo, etc.).

I think that the Dell Precision model is very a compelling product in terms of price/performance. However, I need some advice on which card to choose.
As I travel regularly, the laptop must not be too heavy (accuracy vs. the 5000 series 7000).

Precision 5000: http://www.dell.com/uk/business/p/pr...emea&ref=PD_OC
Precision 7000: http://www.dell.com/uk/business/p/pr...&ref=PD_Family

-I certainly want more powerful processor (However, I do not think that the extra computing power Xeon processor E3 - 1535M offers compared to the Xeon processor E3 - 1505 M will be noticeable in excel).
-Who and how much RAM? (it is sensible to choose vs 32 GB 16 GB?, I won't go to ECC or non ECC?, 2 x / 4 x 8 GB or 16 GB?)
-What hard drive do you recommend? (of course, SSD, but there are so many options to choose from, especially with the 7000 series)

Thank you very much for your help in advance!

Hey top_performance,

For the side CPU, buy everything you feel, that you can afford.  I think the i7-6820HQ is very well there *-nearly identical in performance indicators that I can find.  Xeons are generally better for loads of data in servers or complex mathematical and scientific supercomputers; for Excel, I think you'll be fine with the i7.

Sage of the RAM: 8 GB really, is going to be good I guess.  Excel can be a bear, but in my experience, it is more likely to choke due to its coding entered kernel strikes a memory cap.  That being said - you can like shoot well for everything you can justify matched.  I've got 16 GB in my office & 12 GB in my laptop - I don't need really, but it makes feel me better.

What about if you want to go with a single vs 8 / 16GB modules 2 x 8 / 16GB, so you really need to ask two things:
(1) you go with the model 15 or 17?  The 17 has 4 locations of memory (2 under keyboard, 2 under lower lid) based on the user manual.
(2) do you think you'll be upgrading later down the line?  It seems that it is a fairly easy thing to do.

Speaking of types of RAM, I do not think that ECC is an option for you.  ECC (error correction code) is slower than non ECC simply because he has a data integrity check happens before releasing data to the rest of the system.  This is usually necessary in critical systems and servers to government/big corporation.  As it is, both of these pages product, only no ECC (n - ECC) RAM is listed.

For the storage of your data, I agree that an SSD is the way to go.  I don't know what else, besides that Excel you on this but I'd do it not encourage anyone buying a professional system to get anything less than 500 GB (unless you unload your data off-production of external/network drives).

Marked records 'M.2 PCIe' run on the PCI-express bus of the system - which is immensely faster than the SATA connections.  Readers who have "1 M hours MTBF" added at the end means "1 million hours average Mean Time Between Failures.  If these discs seem to indicate a better average life expectancy.

I did some quick research on the difference between DP900 of A-Data, DP910, and OPAL records but could not find something important on what the differences are.  Slight changes of memory controller, it seems, but nothing that would indicate a significant advantage of quality rather than another.  A - Data has, as far as I know, a solid reputation.

You said you go (obviously) with an SSD at a disk - I'd tend to agree with this choice, because I live a life nearly exclusive SSD myself.  However, in order to provide you with an informed decision, I want to emphasize that the hard drives & SSDS do not differently, but recent studies showed that SSD drives are not actually 'more reliable' than a hard drive.  When a disk hard breaks down the charges magnetic on the plateau is generally stay in place & keep your data under a certain form of recoverable state.  With SSDS, being that the data store is simply the electrons which alternates, if a failure occurs the chances of recovering you data is *-close to zero.  If the electrical load is disturbed & disappears completely, you will be GROUND.  If one NAND chip is physically damaged, you might be able to recover all data not stored on this chip damaged but you look very long professional service which is very expensive.

ALL that being said, SSDS are more resistant to heat, cold, physical impact resistant, liquid spills and are not affected by the physical movement of the same way East of the spinning of a hard drive trays.  No matter what you decide to go with backups of good brand.  As someone who has worked with HER for 10 years now, don't want to pay the Bill of a professional data recovery.

I hope it wasn't the overload of information for you.  I want to just that you go into this kind of purchase with both eyes open & fully abreast of all your options - these types of workstations mobile are not cheap & informed investment is a good investment.

If something needs to be clarified, please let me know.  I hope this helps!

Go to the HP support website and search for the latest drivers Windows XP for your specific model number, then what are on the CD when you first bought the laptop. http://welcome.HP.com/country/us/en/support.html

How can you tell if the CD contains the latest drivers. A simple method is to compare the date of your purchase with the date listed on the site of HP drivers. All dated driver after you bought the laptop is more than likely newer than what's on the CD.

If there is recent Windows XP update/more drivers, then download the latest drivers to a folder on your hard drive (create a folder and name itdrivers HP). Then install each beginning driver by the card mother/chipset, SATA, LAN, Audio, drivers, and so on.

If it appears that HP has their website isn't is more recent than what you have on the CD, and then use the CD.

  • Laptop for the work of the University

    Hello

I'm on the purchase of a new laptop. So far, my favorites are the following two:

    http://www.Dell.com/ch/p/configuration-compare.aspx?ReturnUrl=http%3A%2f%2Fwww.Dell.com%2Fch%2Fp%2Fdeals%2Fclearance-deals

    (I hope this link works)

I have a few questions on my mind:
How much better / faster is the processor of Gen 6th to the 5th generation?
If I googled them (and check ark.intel.com) data may not be very good. but it's just numbers. What about performance? What's much faster? or I'm better with 8 GB of additional RAM?

I use it almost exclusively to the University - which means that I sometimes dozens of PDF and MS Word files open at the same time. If I understand it the RAM is more important when it comes to 'multitasking '?

Sometimes, I also play games. But I'm no high-end gaming on my laptop. but I've done before on my desk. That's why I'm used to a fast computer / laptop. I want my laptop to be quick (which is my only real is not more...)

    Thanks for your comments!

BTW I wonder also if it might make sense to buy a laptop with Windows 10 directly rather then buy one with 8.1 and Windows 10 upgrade Windows? the upgrade already slow or if it makes no difference?

    Hi LorinBardric,

The 6th generation will be the most recent version and maybe a little better than 5th. Usually there will be not much difference. You'll be better off with more ram. 8 gig will be fine. RAM is important for virtually everything you do on a computer.

You better buy with Windows 10, so all programs are already in place and everything works together as it should. If you have Windows 8.1 and upgrade, you get all the Dell updates for the hardware and software.

This should be good for the play of light, just keep in mind this isn't a designated game machine. Alienware line are the big gaming machines.

Looks like you have chosen a good laptop for school and general use.

  • Which laptop is better INTEL CORE I5 - 4210H or INTEL CORE I7-4710HQ?

So I am planing on buying a laptop but a problem. Here are the specs:

    LAPTOP 1-

    INTEL CORE I5 - 4210:
    8 GB RAM
    HARD DRIVE 1000GO
    NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 860M
    15.6 screen size of
    Memory type DDR 3 L
    Type of IPS display
    1920 X 1080
    2 GB OF VRAM
    4-2. KG
    COST: 1 650

    LAPTOP 2-

    INTEL CORE I7-4710HQ
    8 GB RAM
    512 GB SSD
    15.6 screen size of
    TYPE OF RAM DDR 3
    Type of LED display
    NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 860M
    4-2. KG
    Cost: 2, 350

Laptop which is better? The cost difference is very big, so I need a legitimate response. I'll be using this laptop for navigation and a little heavy play. Video editing, maybe in the future.

For me, the key is the processor and in the above case I would seek to i7, but it has a very small hard drive. It's all a personal choice depending on what you use the laptop for.

  • Laptop for 4 k video editing - more than RAM vs best map Gfx

    Hi guys,.

I am lucky to get 2 laptops for the same price.

One of them has a Geforce 970 M with 6 GB and 32 GB of RAM, and the other a finer 980 M with 8 GB and 16 GB of RAM.

Considering that I will edit mainly 4 k, which of these would be benefict my workflow? I do use the adjustment of color, denoise occasionally and a few other simple fx.

Can I assume the laptop with 16 GB of RAM would fall a bit in the rendering time, but would be much better in terms of real-time preview? (This is where I had problems more in my office and I believe that it is bound to have a bad Gfx card, since I have a truck with an I7 6700 k and 32 GB of DDR5 RAM 3600 Mhz memory but the gfx card is a Geforce GT740 with 2 GB of RAM (bottleneck?).

980 m vs 1060, you must take into account also in speed (base and boost) clock of the cuda cores, which places the gtx 1060 far ahead. the gtx 1000 series is the first to reach such high clock speeds, where, as older generations have lower and somewhat similar clock speeds. If previously it was acceptable to focus only on the number of core cuda, but is no longer. about 4 GB of memory should be enough for 4 k, making unnecessary the gtx 6 just right 1060 GB and the 8 GB on the 980 m.

system vs video card ram, 4 k colour grading I would try to get the gtx 1060, even to sacrifice to 16 GB of ram. but I'd also look for a laptop that has been upgraded, to add or replace the ram and have 32 GB more later if necessary. 32 GB of ram would help more with major projects and playback of certain types of media such as crude oil. so according to what you do with the first, you might find acceptable 16 GB.

  • Need recommendation for laptop - for video editing

I'm trying to looking for a new laptop and need recommendations based on how I use the laptop.  I produce videos and mainly use the following programs: Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe Encore DVD.  I also use other software such as AutoFX PGE7.0 of photo editing.

I currently have a HP Pavilion which is about 5 years old.  This office has the following specifications:

    HP Pavilion PU131AV / a1050y, Intel Pentium 4 CPU 3.20 GHz, 2 GB RAM, Windows XP MCE, SP3 32-bit, Nvidia GeForce 6600

I believe that with a new laptop, I was able to create my videos more efficiently.  If you have any input as to what I need in a laptop for my specific purpose, please let me know.

    Thank you very much

    Angela

    new computer: HPE-180 t, Windows 7 Pro (64 bit), Nvidia GeForce GT 220, Intel Core i7 - 930 quad-core CPU @ 2.80 GHz, 8 GB of RAM

For what you are doing you need all the horsepower you can gather. You have not specified a budget and with what you're trying to do, I don't think that it would be useful to think of anything less than a thousand dollars. You need at least 4 GB of memory and preferably 8. You need a 64 bit version of Windows 7. You need a quad core or i7 processor. Regarding the size of the screen, it's a matter of personal choice, but I don't see how you can get in with less than a 15-inch screen. In respect to the HP products you can consider the urge again, but the problem is the lack of an internal optical drive (CD/DVD type).

HP is running a special offer on the dv6t Quad model with an i7 processor, $ 999 with a free upgrade to 4 GB of RAM and a concert full of video memory. While your P4 3.2 was the killer at a time where it was released, the dv6t Quad run rings around her, particularly in Photoshop. Make sure that you use a recent version of Photoshop with 64-bit and support multi-core. Also be sure to get the 7200 RPM hard drive, because it makes a big difference in video editing.

    Good luck and enjoy.

Best laptop for Photoshop editing? 2015

If you want to stay with CS6 avoid a laptop with a high resolution screen.  Photoshop UI will be weak and unusable.  Save your money get a laptop with an LCD display with a resolution around 100 PPI.

Surface Pro 4 is not announced yet rumor is there will be two sizes, 12 "and 14" both will had poster with 2160 x 1440 pixels as the Surface pro 3. Screen 14 '' PPI will then be 140, which should be good for CS6. Windows 10 I hear will be also shipped on the Surface 4 so far the Word Pro is Windows 10 will be better than windows 8 and free for Windows 7 and 8 users.

  • Complex tax calculation scripts

It's very simple so very frustrating that it does not work!

    1. I have a "Sub-total" field that is the sum of field 6. Which works very well.

    2. I have a first tax "GST" 5% code field:

    var f = this.getField ("subtotal");

    F.value = Event.Value * 0.05;

There is no error, but it does not work. The value of this field is 0.

    3. I also have a second "QST" tax of 7.5%, which is more complex. ".

Is the 7.5% on the sum of the " " Total part 'and the' GST ', coded as: .

    var f is this.getField ("subtotal") + this.getField("gst");.

    F.value = Event.Value * 0,075;

(Now I'm not sure on that one) I do not have a warning of error but it does not work either.

The value of this field is 0.

What seems wrongly in the two taxes?

Use a text editor very. Your double equation mark is a smart equation mark and not the simple double quotation mark, which is the same character to open and close it.
