WHS backup impossible secondary drive (data)

A few days ago my HP Mediasmart Server running WHS is no longer can all backups on my Vista Ultimate machine. When I check backups, it seems that my drive C (74 GB Raptor) can be saved but the drive D (750 GB Samsung) could not. He suggested to run CHKDSK /f /r I ran this by planning a check disk with both options checked and reboot. This problem did not correct the problem.

The same a few days ago my data disk was no longer listed in Vista. After restarting a few times, she came back. The curious thing is, when I run chkdsk under Vista (which means that both options are unchecked, not prescribe DO NO mistakes) on my OS drive, a summary appears. When you run the chkdsk even with both options unchecked on my data disk, chkdsk seems to end before finishing and certainly don't watch not a summary prove that it completed successfully.

Also, the Vista Explorer normally displays all drives (2), removable disks, etc. in their categories:
http://www.Petri.co.IL/images/vista_explorer_1.gif
Something like that.

For some reason, all hard disks, removable disks, etc. are still there, but categories have disappeared. I see, just like I would a normal folder path, i.e. no categories. This may or may not be related to my problem.

The data reader is accessible and the files can be read and written apparently without problem. SATA power and data connections are good.

I checked and made sure that the Volume Shadow Copy service is running. The status of backup WHS always ends once finished save the OS disk only, then said:
"The backup failed because your computer could not create a volume snapshot. To resolve this problem, try "chkdsk /f/r" running on each of your hard disks, and then restart your computer. »

I have run chkdsk many times on both hard drives and had no chance in this help.

I tried to provide a lot of information I can, if someone can help and need more information, please let me know!

I got 2 hard drives, a small disc with XP Pro and a big drive for storage and memory intensive programs. The disc is dead - physically (he's grinding wheels), not because of software problems. I managed to boot from the XP disk and copied as much as possible on an external drive to install on a new hard drive. Externally will not take the backup file. Hi jdohugh,

Thanks for posting. If I read your post correctly your hard drive with your operating system on it died, so you lost your operating system and do not have to reinstall but you try to get down the important data before the reinstall.

1 Q: can I ghost the info on a new hard drive and skip the installation? Reason I have CS3 on drive F, but it components installed on the C drive (where CS2 was before I upgraded). I do not have my Adobe CS3 here records because it allowed multi, and my records are currently out of State with the other licensee.

    A. Si your drive with your operating system does not work, I do not think you can ghost it and reinstall as the image would not work. With Adobe CS3 disks, you will need to contact Adobe and get them to perform the installation of additional supports. Simply copy the files likely will not work to reisntall the application.

    2. Q. If I install the new disk, starting from the old drive with XP disc, can I ghost? A: as I said in question 1 if your operating system drive does not an image would most likely fail or be corrupt. If read correctly the other part of the question you the system tried to start installation on your f:\ that matches your drive program and now you cannot access the files on it? With the last part of this question, you will need to contact Seagate to see what makes their software, I'm not sure what you're trying to accomplish by using.

    3. Q. When the new drive, I get up and running, can I sign out the F drive, plug it back and Windows will see it? CS3 & Quark will still work if I have to do a fresh install?

    A. Si you reconnect an extra drive to XP, the operating system should see it regardless of what it was connected to previously. With regard to your programs, if it is a new operating system you load then Yes, you will need to reinstall these applications on the operating system, and they should work with no problems provided that the drive is working correctly.

I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any additional questions.

You can not install Windows 7 on an external drive. Windows 7 requires that install you it on an attached storage device internally. What you can do is to back up your current installation of Windows 7 on a hard drive external. Install a new hard drive, then restore the backup of this drive. To learn more:

  • Backup external hard drive

I recently bought a computer with Vista Home Premium 32 bit. I attached an external hard drive to it. I want to keep the clean C drive with only the OS and programs held on this subject. The external hard drive contains files of data and images. I have attached a second external hard drive to the computer. I want to be able to plan a backup from the first disk to the second external drive, but the backup and Recovery wizard seems to allow only a backup of the drive C. is there something that I am missing in the wizard? Or is there something else I can do for my first external backup drive?

    Thanks for the help!

    Hi rdenn_58,

    Thanks for posting your request.

The back up files Wizard, included in Windows Vista Home Basic Edition, Windows Vista Home Premium, Windows Vista professional, Windows Vista business and Windows Vista Ultimate Edition, allows you to save your files and data from an external hard drive, CD, DVD, network location and also a secondary hard drive. Although there is no option to schedule a backup to an external drive to a second external drive using the Back Up Files Wizard.

To copy or move files from one external drive to another, you can use the following steps:

You can create a backup of the files on a CD or DVD before you copy or move files.

To copy the files from the first disk to the second external drive, you can use Windows Explorer by going to: start > click computer > double click on the drive letter for the first external drive and then copy the files / folders that you want to back up, and then paste the second external disk drive by opening a second window of the computer. You can also drag and drop files from the first disk to the second external drive using Windows Explorer.

For reference below is a useful link to more information. using the backup center and restoration:

  • Solid State Drive SSD how to store the user accounts on secondary drive

I installed windows on a SSD and I want to use a secondary drive for all my data. How to configure windows (explorer) to do this? Thank you, DM.

Move the users directory and directory ProgramData on one drive other than the drive that contains the Windows directory Warning Using the ProgramData parameter to redirect folders to one drive other than the system volume will block your ability to upgrade to later versions of Windows.

By changing the location by default of the user profile directories or folders of program data to one volume other than the system volume, you cannot service your Windows installation. Impossible to apply updates, patches or service packs to install. We recommend that you do not change the location of the user profile directories or files from program data.

  • Copy Time Machine backups on Second drive

While I've seen some support responses on this issue, I don't know what relates to my situation.

My scenario: I have a new iMac on the way to replace my current 24 "in early 2009.  I thought I could have my current computer time just come back on the computer where the other was arrested, but my research seems to indicate that this is not the case.

My solution is to do the following:

    (1) transfer the backups on the Machine of the current time to a second external drive.

Note: I also intend to use this second unit of disk storage system of primary file to the new computer.  The new iMac will be an SSD where I only intend to keep applications and files that I use for the projects basically video/photo.  It is a 4 TB drive, so plenty of room for me to organize my current files and backup Time Machine, which is about 1 TB.

    (2) current Time Machine to reformat and put up again as the time Machine to the new computer.

    Here's my question:

After trying to simply drag and drop the folder "backups.backup" of time to my new drive of a second Machine, I got the message error "volume a bad upper/lower case distinction for backup."  It seems that my Time Machine has been formatted as journaled attention to case, but the new disc has been simply logged.

I'm currently following these instructions using disk utility: time machine TM file transfer

    I'm left with two questions:

First: It says "copy blocks. "Estimated time: 23 hours"-which seems excessive for just 1 TB of info.

Second: Most important.  After this process I will be able to use the second drive as a storage drive, or is it simply that in fact in another time Machine?

Honestly, I've never used TM to find a lost file or two and never for a restoration complete, so I'm not particularly worried about it.  Secondly, I have change my Time Machine drive each year (holding to the old disks).  I just did this in January, so if I lose a few months of backups, not a huge deal.  I just hope that simply keep these backups as a just in case where.

Thanks in advance for your ideas!

FWIW, it's not recommended to use the same drive for backups Time Machine and data for several reasons. It can be done, but you need to create two partitions.

  • Restoration of secondary drives that are not not in my computer after XP

After the restoration of XP MCE 2002 SP3, my secondary drives are not listed under my computer.  They show in the management of disk as disk 1 and disk 2.  Both have the following status in disk management: Basic, online healthy (active).  When I right click on disk 1 or disk 2 the only option is to 'Delete Partition '.  I saved my data files on these disks before you restore XP (in C :).  How XP to assign the drive letters on these discs and to recognize in my computer without risking the data that is on it?  Thank you!

I don't know why or how, but now my secondary data disks have drive letters and are listed in Explorer / my computer.  I tried to use PartiionMagic of Norton, but that provides no way to assign drive letters.  It's probably a coincidence, but I've also reinstalled Norton GoBack, although I disabled it immediately to run PartitionMagic.  The key is that I have now both of my back of data disks and I am on my way to restore my data!  YES!

  • vSphere Esxi 4.1 - reconnected hard drive data lost

    Hello

I have ESXI 4.1 running on a HP Proliant managed by Vsphere

the virtual machine is a simple Windows Server 2008 R2 Std

It runs on a data store that is a hard drive of 250 GB on the proliant

I have a 1 TB drive also which I use as the drive data and this is added as a second drive.

This allows me to disconnect the 1 TB drive. run and export the VM stop and save effectively just the virtual machine

data on the 1 TB drive, that I Windows backup on a daily schedule.

I run this procedure to stop the virtual machine

disconnect the 2 disk which is the 1 TB data store

    running the export

and then reconnect the hard drive 2 and restarting the virtual machine

It worked great until last night.

When I restored the data store, it has restored about dated February 2, 2013.

I can't understand what has happened and really need help to avoid meeting in this new

Fortunately, I can recover all the data since nightly backups that I ran a backup before you perform the procedure described above.

    I'm mystifed.

Here's what I noticed when you unplug the hard drive 2 last night.

Finally I did this procedure on February 2 and the backup to the top of the virtual machine

After the virtual machine is stopped and exporting, then I went to add the hard drive I could see a dated 2nd February

the thing is that I assumed it meant the date that his latest creation so don't think too much about. The data store is all most of the 1 TB drive so it's not like him both of them can store on disk. There are only two files vmdk files and that's what I expected to see.

I started everything and checked to make sure that faulty data was available and it went well, Windows Server

I didn't check the dates, but once the staff came this morning it began to be clear that nothing happened 2nd feb existed and actually I had added 2 disc hard back from this date.

I have two questions that I can't answer

1 where the hell is the data store frrom last night before disconnection? I just unplugged and not clicked the option to remove data.

2 how a store of data of 1 TB of 2nd Feb suddnely may not appear in its place.

If anyone can help solve me this problem I would really appreciate it.

There are no snapshots more listed in the Snapshot Manager

Although most of the time it's ok, not necessarily count on it (it's just a text file that contains the information of snapshot). Always check the settings of the virtual machine to verify that the virtual disk has no snapshot name (i.e... - 00000 x hard). The time shown for the files, is at once when the file descriptor hard (virtual disks consist of two files hard, a header/descriptor and a data file, but only the time stamp and the name of the header file and the size of the data file is displayed in the data store Explorer) has been changed, so it's ok if it shows when you run the consolidation.

attached screenshots indicate it of okay now and be safe remove the DISK_1 and add in back without risk of that happening again?

I'm sure DISK_1 point parameters of the virtual machine to the "Windows Server 2008 R2 Std_1.vmdk" and "Windows Server 2008 R2 Std_1 - 000001.vmdk" now obsolete and can be deleted. As previously mentioned, I suggest that you move this file into a new subdirectory and delete later if all goes as planned.

Just install an 11.1.0.7 bridge and looks that he does not accept the parameters of HS_NLS_NCHAR. I can't remember if for 11.1 a patch was required to operate.
Do you see a chance to use the 11.2.0.3 bridge instead of 11.1.0.7? You can download the 11.2.0.3 gateway of My Oracle Support - look for Patch 10404530: 11.2.0.3.0 PATCH SET FOR ORACLE DATABASE SERVER

and make sure you have chosen Linux x 86-64 bit.
The bridge is part of the CD: p10404530_112030_platform_5of7.zip

Download the ZIP file, unzip it on the Linux machine and install the bridge inot its own Oracle_home. Define its own listener and in your database location, change the entry in tnsnames.ora pointing to the newly created listener. then copy the init of bridge location 11.1 the 11.2 OH and test.
