Why can't I create a password reset disk?

When I drag the right side of my screen, select search, type password reset disk, select settings and click on "Create A Password Reset Disk" nothing happens. No Wizard. Does not at all.   It doesn't matter if I have a USB connected or not drive.  I searched this article Windows 8 Microsoft Community and tried all Vikrant Yadav recommended Thomas on 02/01/13:

checked the clean boot (disabled all listed)

disabled Norton 360 (uninstalled completely)

has ran sfc / scannow (no problems have been reported)

I signed up as an administrator.  I am at a loss.  Help, please.

  • Viable way Top 2 to create Windows 7 password reset disk in all conditions

This article describes how to create and use a disc to reset password of Windows 7 to a computer before and after that you forgot the password. You can use Windows 7 CD to reset password to access your computer.

Scenario 1: I put t forget the password again.

Windows 7 has its own backup feature, and you can create proactively a Windows 7 password reset disk before you forget it. With it, you can easily reset your password of Windows 7 and do things in your PC.
Follow the steps below to create a reset disk of your own Windows 7 account password. Here's how:

Note that this procedure requires a formatted blank floppy disk.

    1. click on 'Start'-> "control of the accounts of users and family safety"->""-> "user accounts".
    2. in the task pane, click "Create a password reset disk". The wizard 'forgot password' is displayed.
    3. click on 'Next' and choose the portable media player.
    4. click on 'Next', then enter your current password in the following box and click "next".
    5. Windows 7 starts to create the reset disk of password on your chosen media. When the progress bar reaches 100% complete, click 'Next' and then click 'Finish '.
    6. now you can remove your device and store the disk in a safe place. Once you have forgotten the password in the future, you can take it out.

Follow the steps below to use a password reset disk to recover password of Windows 7. Here's how:

    1. the created disc of password can now be used for log-ins to reset the password. A password reset link appears on the account screen after an unsuccessful attempt to open a session.
    2. click on "password remains", and opens the dialog "password reset Wizard". Here, you will have to insert the disc to reset the PC.
    3. follow the wizard to enter a new password twice to make sure that you type the password. You are proposed to create a new indication of password, so that you remember the password with it if you forget.
    4. Windows switches to Windows Journal in the new screen where you can use the new password to connect.

Scenario 2: I already forgot the password.

If you have forgotten your password to Windows 7, but don t have a password reset disk on hand, you can choose another way to reset the password.

Here's how to create Windows 7 password reset CD/USB:

    1. this procedure requires a USB flash drive or CD. Insert your media device into another computer that has access to the system as administrator.
    2. launch Windows 7 password reset software disc. On the main interface, choose "reset the local Windows account password.
    3. choose your target device, and then click "Burn" start Windows 7 password reset creating the diskette.

Here's how to reset the password of Windows 7:

    1. with this software Windows 7 password reset USB, start the computer that you want to reset the password.
    2. under Windows PE, can access you the main interface of this software. Choose your Windows system and select the user account you want to reset the password.
    3. click on 'Reset' and then 'Yes' & 'OK' in order to remove the password of Windows 7.

Pretty easy, isn't it? After that the system control password reset completely, you will never worry your bad memory

  • Password reset disk only describes the use of floppy drive A (and they are obsolete). Password reset disk cannot be a CD-DVD, I can use a USB flash instead of the floppy drive?

I wanted to create a RESET DISK of PASSWORD, but NOOOOO - my machine has a FLOPPY DRIVE. No product only the CD/DVD PLAYERS and one cannot change the a drive to a different letter designation.

If you really NEED to do this, you are up the proverbial Creek, apparently.  Hard to believe!   How long has he given now that ANYONE used FLOPPEIES (small square disks)?  Certainly, we are asked not to believe that nobody is realized for this oversight!  I TRIED a CD/DVD - no dice.  My machine has 2 CD/DVD players, a Terrabyte Mobile with a slot drive.  My spouse has built this machine, and it is ensured that there are enough USB connectors that I could plant some tulips!  (It's photography & video editing - retirees have a busy life, that pays well.)  There are sites for readers of any persuasion EXCEPT the 1998 'PLACE floppy DISKS'.  Also, as with most machines, I do not want to return and crush things that my husband has a loading on the drives and call other than the names they bear within the network as things go well, otherwise.  We can't decide to call H Drive (CD/DVD drive), drive A, to say, just for the sake of my need to create a password reset disk.  My machine does not allow me to do things on the "fly".  I have to create a NEW one (and download something from those that already exist).  A ray of light shines through the same mess!  I think that maybe I can use a "USB key"?  Does not have a CD rom, but just explore, I ran across the words using a player instead of 'A' USB flash drive.  Hoping that USB key or "memory stick" is acceptable!

    Hi Janice,.

If you are using Vista, please see the following: http://www.techrepublic.com/blog/window-on-windows/create-a-vista-password-reset-disk-using-a-usb-flash-drive/547.

If using Windows 7, please see the following: http://www.techrepublic.com/blog/window-on-windows/use-a-usb-flash-drive-to-create-windows-password-reset-disk-in-windows-7/4142?tag=rbxccnbtr1.

From what I read, it seems quite simple and easy in both cases.  And not worry about drive letters - it will take whatever drive letter you choose (or who has been assigned to the flash player).

    I hope this helps.

    Good luck!

  • can you make a password reset disk on a computer and use it on another using the same operating system?

One of my friends has forgotten his password and I was wondering if I could make the password reset disk for him?

A password reset disk only works on the computer, on which it was made.

What to do if you forget your Windows password

If you have forgotten your Windows password and you are on a domain, you must contact your system administrator to reset your password. If you are on a working group (the majority of individuals are on a working group), you can reset your password by using a reset disk of password or by using an administrator account.

    Create a password reset disk:

    Reset your Windows password:

If you forget the administrator password, and you do not have a password reset disk or another administrator account, you will not be able to reset the password. If there is no other user account on the computer, you will not be able to connect to Windows and you will need to re - install Windows.

  • Password reset disk wizard wants to use Drive F - I don't have an F drive

Desktop HP Pavilion p6610f Windows 7 Home Premium 64 - bit installed Just the new hard drive and all the new updates and new programs etc.  I created the repair disk system and a full backup and wante to create a password reset disk. When I click on 'Create a password reset disk' in the control panal and I begin to follow the wizard, it asks me to put a key memory in drive F.  I don't have USB keys or disks if that's what is meant.  I was going to use a DVD - RW disc, but of course, I am unable to do so.  Why does say to create a 'DISC' in one place, and then when I go there, it says that I have to use a 'KEY' 'DRIVE F "?  If I buy a USB flash drive, which is identical to a key memory? And... I have several USB ports, none of them can be used with the USB to store data or memory?  I looked in the 'Help' section and he said just to click on "create a 'Disk' password reset. Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.

Thank you for your time, but I already did the cover, back, vision of diagnostics and repair of disks.  I just asked why, when it is suggested that I create a 'PASSWORD' reset disk, when I start to do exactly that, the wizard tells me that I have to use a USB, 'NO' a 'DISC' and use the 'F' reader which I did not, (I don't think), I mean I know there are additional slots for disks , but I don't think I have other than those that I used to do the other ' Just discs in case where.  Just curious.  I have resigned myself to not do a. I wrote my password on a piece of paper and taped it on the underside of the top of a desk, where nobody would ever think to look.

  • Is it possible to make a password reset disk for windows 7 by using windows 8?

    Original title: password reset disk

Is it possible to make a password reset disk for windows 7 by using windows 8. The reason why I ask this is because our Toshiba satellite laptop was stolen when our House was robbed. Fortunately the police recovered the laptop, but the password has been changed and we cannot use it. In the meantime, we have replaced the old laptop with a new one that has windows 8. I made a password reset disk using this, but it won't work on the old laptop.

    any advice would be great

    Best regards, Ian

    Hi Ian,

You can create a password reset disk only when you are able to log on or access Windows 7 computer and after you have created a password for the same.

Windows 8 password reset disk can be used only in Windows 8 computer where you created the password and not for Windows 7.

You must create a Windows password reset disk before you forgot your password. You must also create a new password reset disk when you change your password in Windows.

If you the administrator password are changed and is not a password reset disk or another administrator account, you will not be able to change or reset the password.

What is a password reset disk?

    Hi George

I have shared your message in its own thread, because the thread that you had responded was very old.

When you create a password for a user account, you have the option to create a password reset disk. It can be created on a floppy or USB key. The file placed on the drive is encrypted.

If ever, you forgot your password, you can use this disk to log on to your account.

    Concerning

  • password reset disk wizard problem

The password reset disk wizard does not give an option for my cd burner... only gives the option of SD/MMC (g) or CompactFlash (H :) or SmartMedia/xD (i) MS/MS Pro (J :).  I have no idea what these are (except compact flash).  My cd burner is (e :)) why he doesn't give me this option?  How to do a reset disk?  I have looked at all the items from the help and could find nothing that addresses this issue.  Thank you.
