Why do we say that I have to add characters to the address when I try to send an email

whenever I try to send an email a pink line comes and tells me that I must add charaters at the address that I send email to because they're trying to protect me against spam.  but they have not told me what I should add to the characters.  I am at my wits end and really tired to turn on my computer and there is something new that I can't do...  I tried to restore to the time before the last update, but it did not work.  Anyone know why?  It has nothing to do with me is wrong with MacAfee, but a different virus scanner provider?

Please, help me, because I don't know what to do.  I've only had this computer since February of this year and this is my first.  I really am a novice and I feel taken advantage of and I feel like I'm being strong armed.  I'm at my wits end.

Hi JoanneWiebe,

What email program are you using on your computer?
If you use Windows Live Hotmail, I think what you see is the character challenge that requires you to enter the characters displayed on the screen to make sure you're the one send the email, and that you are not an automated system to send spam e-mails to several e-mail addresses:
