  you do NOT touch your recovery partition, unless it is to make recovery disks to reinstall vista back to factory standards or the recovery partition allows you to do the same thing if you have a system failure

  your recovery partition is placed there by the manufacturer of the computer, and you're not supposed to diskcleanup to backup or System Restore enabled for indexing, etc, etc.

I just imported approximately 1.63 GB of photos and afterword noticed that 1.46 GB has been written to my hard drive. I know that I am using the correct catalog (also the catalog only I have for Lightroom) because use space has increased after my import on my dropbox catalog file.

  First of all you need to know if your D: drive is a recovery disk. If this is the case, you are NOT, don't tell ANYONE, supposed to touch.
  Recovery disk stores the image of your system. It is used to restore your computer when it crashes.

  As to need more spcae of disk in drive c:, you already have " Disk Cleanup "?
  You should do cleaning disc on a regular basis in order to recover disk space.
