Why every time I try to print it automatically downloads it instead?

Only when I'm in firefox, I opened a document (no matter what program I'm), hit print, it automatically downloads instead of print. I have to go to downloads, recover, then print and it prints like a bad copy. This has happened for the past two weeks. I had no problem before this impression. Help!

Try to use the Applications on the page Options Panel to change how Firefox handles those particular types of downloads. Looks like that PDF is the starting point:

"3-bar" menu button (or tools) > Options

In the left column, click on Applications. Firefox can pause for a few seconds while it loads the list. You should then see a listing of many different types of content. In the area above the list, type or paste pdf and Firefox should filter to

Portable Document format (PDF)

On the right side, if it says 'Save file' which are always changing to 'ask '.

A little luck?

Now, if this does not work:

(1) there may be other types of content of the site is indicating for attachments. You can scroll through the list looking for others who are set on 'Save file' and change these.

(2) the file that stores these preferences could be damaged. What we usually suggest in this case is the following:

Open the settings folder (AKA Firefox profile) current Firefox help

  • button '3-bar' menu > '? ' button > Troubleshooting Information
  • (menu bar) Help > troubleshooting information
  • type or paste everything: in the address bar and press Enter

In the first table of the page, click on the view file"" button. This should launch a new window that lists the various files and folders in Windows Explorer.

Leave this window open, switch back to Firefox and output, either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > button "power".
  • (menu bar) File > Exit

Pause while Firefox finishing his cleaning, then rename the mimeTypes.rdf to something like mimeTypes.old.

Launch Firefox upward, and it should build a new mimeTypes.rdf file starting from the registry data, and Windows plugin. Normally your PDF Viewer will be reset to a built, but you can select Adobe Acrobat if you prefer. See: How to disable the built-in PDF Viewer and use another Viewer.
