  Since you have a Mac, I'm not real familiar with it but in Windows, you can suspend or resume employment through the print queue, you can also pause the printer.

  So what we need to solve is how to regain your queue that is more a question of Mac OS.

  You might even be able to Google that question and get the answer to your problem.
