Why have I not [VM name] _1.vmdk, _2.vmdk with no snapshots?

Hello

I'm trying to consolidate my VMs to a small size file, so I can transfer them to a new server. I had a number of snapshots for a long time already. I deleted all the snapshots for virtual machine is flat. Then I looked at the files in the data store for the virtual machine. I see the big following files:

. [The virtual computer name] VMDK

[VM name] _1.vmdk

[VM name] _2.vmdk

All three have the same size, and all three are the size of the hard disk of the virtual computer. The virtual machine uses [VM name] _2.vmdk as the player.

Why are there three that seem to be three copies of the file hard drive? Is there a way to merge them so I have only a transfer?

no doubt alone is uptodate - the other two may have been replaced in the history of the virtual machine

use a temporary virtual machine with a Linux LiveCD and inspect what is in the 2 disks not used - then you will know if the disks are in the garbage or valuable
