Why Microsoft XPS Document Writer became my default printer instead of my HP printer and why can't he going back?

Somehow Microsoft XPS Document Writer became the printer by default - I don't know what it is. We have an HP printer. We cannot go back. I need the Microsoft XPS Document Writer?

The XPS printer is a "print to file" type of printer, it is not a real printer as such, but to behave like one.  XPS files are kind of similar (but not) PDF files, I prefer to consider as images.  They can be quite handy, suppose that you want to save a web page, as when you place an order or make a payment online (or anything else) you can only use the XPS printer to print and save a file without a real printer or using a printer and paper.   XPS files can easily be found (such as PDF or other image) and if yo need a copy paper, it can be sent to a printer.  It's a practical way of conservation documented records without having to print and store paper prints.

Why can not redefine you your HP printer to default?  What happens when you try to do?

If you do not want the XPS printer you can just delete it as any other printer (in the control Panel\Hardware and Sound\Devices and printers).

I thought that I had in the printers and faxes, but microsoft xps document writer does not appear. need to show.

    OK, here is the resolution:

Under Printer Mfg., Microsoft (and game associate XPS driver) are defined in Windows 7 only, which is what tetraethyle3 noticed. However, it has never included in XP & earlier operating systems. The solution for these OS is as follows:

    1. Add a generic printer (for example an HP Laserjet 4);
    2. change the type of port to a Port of XPS (local port)
    3. no need to define it as the default printer.

The problem of XPS printer driver missing for all software platforms dependent it should now be resolved. This method turned away from adding a printer at random was the only method considered correctly install or reinstall a missing or corrupted driver XPS problem.

    Hello

Thanks for posting in the Microsoft community!
You have reached the right forum for your question.

    1. what happens when you try to print?
    2. you receive an error message?
    3. What is the brand and model of the printer?

    Method 1:
You can try the steps in the link and check.
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows/help/printer-problems-in-Windows

    Method 2:
You can temporarily disable the antivirus on the computer and check if you are able to print.
NOTE: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you need to disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network, while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks

    Method 3:
You can uninstall and reinstall the wireless printer and check.

  • Microsoft XPS Document Writer

    Hello community:

I try to use the Microsoft XPS Document Writer, which came with Windows Ultimate.  When I press the "print" button, it brings up a dialog box stating "save under" and he doesn't let me go forward with an impression.  I don't understand this.  I then use a Dell Photo printer, I used with Windows Vista Home Premium until I upgraded to Windows Ultimate and no problems with printing.  Can anyone help?

    Hello Hoadley.

The XPS Document Writer is a type of virtual printer used for the creation of XPS files.  If you click on where it says XPS Document Writer, in the print page, you should get a list of printers on your system.  The Dell printer should be listed, select that one and print here.

You can change the default by going to Panel-> hardware and printers-> printers.

XPS Document Writer create the *.xml to aid Microsoft Open XML Paper Specification files.  This is the format of Microsoft 'electronic paper' developed as an 'alternative' in Adobe pdf format.

I agree, it's a bit lame, especially given that few people have actually downloaded the necessary XPS document viewer that is required to view the files created by the XPS Document Writer, but there is no real need to remove it.

However, if you really want to get rid of it (there may be a few minor remains), follow these steps:

    1. Open Printers and faxes
    2. Right-click on the icon for the XPS Document Writer and select Remove
    3. In printers and faxes, click file > server properties
    4. Click the tab drivers
    5. Select Microsoft XPS Document Writer, and then click on remove
    6. OK your way out and close printers and faxes

What is microsoft xps document writer and xps Viewer and how to use it?

Original title: xps document writer and Viewer

    Hi arunin,.

An XPS document is a file that is saved in the XML Paper Specification, or .xps, file format. You can create documents XPS (.xps files) by using any program that you can print from Windows; However, you can only view XPS documents by using an XPS Viewer, such as the one included in this version of Windows.

    See: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-in/windows/what-is-xps-viewer#what-is-xps-viewer=windows-7

By using the Microsoft XPS document Writer print driver, I no longer get the XPS files indexed.
Open the file "print" with the XPS Viewer XPS and while trying to search inside, I get this message:

The XPS Viewer has finished searching for the document. The search item was not found.
There is no searchable text in this document.

I have 'print' some of my pages on the Bank, internet bank that every now and then I get a searchable history on disk, and opening a XPS I created in April (2011), the text is perfectly accessible, and I can select text with the mouse. However, the next printed file may, the entire document more like a picture. Nothing can be selected, and the message shown above, appears when you try to search for in the document.

What could be the error? Can I change something to get back to normal "text printing" or is this a deliberate, change that has been installed from Windows update or even?

    Hello

    1. what changes have been made to your machine before the problem?

I suggest that you follow the steps below and check if the problem persists.

    Step 1:

Refer to this document to ensure that the settings are correct for Microsoft XPS Document Writer.

    Step 2:

I got my Surface RT months and never got the "Microsoft XPS Document Writer" contained unit under the spell of devices to work.

If I start a metro like IE or Reader or another application and print to a file .oxps, so I bring up features charm and press "Microsoft XPS Document Writer", nothing happens (other than "Microsoft XPS Document Writer" button visually depressing and not depressing).  I expect the XPS Document Writer UI to climb, but nothing ever happens.

I can print to the XPS Document Writer desktop applications (for example Word, Notepad, office, IE, etc) on my RT Surface very well.

I've never used three devices in the charm of devices: "send to OneNote 2013", "Microsoft XPS Document Writer" and "Xbox 360".  The first two work, but the third has never.

I can create and save a XPS document but cannot open it to see.  Operating system is MS Windows XP SP3.   MS .NET Framework 3.0 has been downloaded. Not sure it's important but my Google Chrome Internet browser.  Any suggestions?

XPS documents open with Internet Explorer. Set your default browser to IE.

Open Internet Options, tab programs, default web browser, click make default.

You can still use Google Chrome for browsing the web.

    Or change the file extension:

Go to: panneau Panel configuration, folder, File Types tab Options, scroll to XPS and click to highlight, click on edit and select XPSViewer.exe or Internet Explorer, click OK

  • XPS Document Writer under Win 7 x 64 fails to create print files.

This used to work, but for some reason, it stopped.

Basically, if I try to print from any application in XPS Document Writer, I am invited properly to a file name, but then, according to the application I get an error message, but in any case I do not get a file.

for example, for the notebook, I get the message "the i/O operation has been aborted because of either a thread exit or an application request".  Internet explorer 8 I don't get any error messages at all.

I tried to delete the printer driver and Add again and I've also added a generic printer and then adjusting the details of the driver.  In both cases, I have the same problem.

I turned and on windows for Services of XPS and XPS Viewer features.  Once, this has made no difference.

I even restarted the printer spooler.  No difference.

When I try to print test page, I get an "unable to print Test page.  You want to discover the convenience of printing support?  Impossible operation completed (error 0x000003e3).

    Clues someone?

    Thanks in advance

    Hi jcmm33,

1 when was the last time it was working fine?

    2. What is the full error you receive when you run the Print Troubleshooter?

I suggest that scan you SFC on the computer that would be a system file corrupt on the computer search and replace.

The analysis may take some time, so be patient. Windows allows to fix corrupt or missing files it finds. If the information of the installation CD is required to fix the problem, you may be asked to insert your Windows Vista installation CD.

  • Change in behavior of Redirection of ThinPrint 6.2 horizon breaks some printers PDF or XPS Document Writer

    To all,

I have a deployment Horizon 6.2 on one of our environments and lately have noticed problems due to changes in the behaviour of redirection of ThinPrint. Prior to 6.2, the printers that have been redirected local client through ThinPrint were joined with: 1: 2, and so forth to avoid conflicts with printers installed on the virtual desktop. However, starting with version 6.2, ThinPrint will redirect the local client printers to the virtual desktop exactly the name specified in the printer object. This poses many questions on our end, mainly related to the printer driver PDF (Bullzip PDF, PDF ABS of QuickBooks, XPS Document Writer printer):

1/to QuickBooks print to pdf function works, the ABS PDF printer object and XPS Document Writer object must be installed to make it work. However, when a user connects the virtual desktop with a client that has installed locally on their desktop client of QuickBooks, ThinPrint will overwrite objects printer with one redirected, that is causing the printer to stop working correctly since ThinPrint redirection does not support file-based printers. When the user disconnects, ThinPrint will remove these printer objects permanently, requiring a reinstallation of printer on the virtual desktop objects, even for non-persistent desktops if user data are persisted (e.g. Volumes writeable UIA + profile of Volumes of the App).

    2. Similarly, if the user has installed the printer (e.g. Bullzip) PDF or XPS Document Writer installed (which is installed by default on every desktop Windows 7/8/8.1/10), on their client computer and tries to connect to the virtual desktop, which has the same Bullzip/XPS Document Writer installed, component redirection ThinPrint will Remove the object Bullzip/XPS requiring a reinstallation of these objects in the printer. Printer PDF from QuickBooks to XPS Document Writer to work, it also breaks the QuickBooks PDF printing functionality.

This has caused a lot of headaches at home, and I would like to know if we can return the behavior of redirection of ThinPrint back to the earlier version. I really don't want to disable ThinPrint quite that certain users want the ability to print from their personal printer. In addition, article on disabling ThinPrint (https://kb.vmware.com/kb/1031688, https://kb.vmware.com/kb/2012770, https://kb.vmware.com/kb/2003626) from the side customer does not work at all.

    Hi SolgaeDK,

Going back to the old solution of printer name, please follow the steps below,

    1. in the agent's Office, change the value of registry TPACScheme key in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Monitors\ThinPrint Print Port Monitor for VMware\Ports\TPVM: of %N to %N #: % I (lager I).

2 restart the Service AutoConnect TP and print spooler.

Then printers will be regenerated with name like ' #: 1 "attached as before.
