Why my address bar has a series of icons (rather than the url) when I click on certain sites?
When I visit certain websites, instead of the URL for the site appearing in my address bar, I get this long string of weird looking for icons that extend all the way through to the address bar in the search bar. I have never seen this before until a few months ago. When I click the icon on the far left inside the address bar I get this message: "this website does not provide identity information.
Is it possible to get rid of these icons and have the site URL appears in the place?
Hello
The leftmost button is the Site identity button. For more information about this, please see:
Try Firefox Safe mode to see if the other icons disappear. Firefox Safe mode is a troubleshooting mode that disables certain parameters, disables most Add-ons (extensions and themes).
If Firefox is open, you can restart Firefox Safe mode in the Help menu:
- Click the menu button
click Help
then select restart with disabled modules.
If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Mode safe mode as follows:
- On Windows: Hold down the SHIFT key when you open the desktop Firefox or shortcut in the start menu.
When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "start mode safe."
If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to understand that one. Please follow the section Troubleshooting extensions, themes and problems of hardware acceleration to resolve common Firefox problems to find the cause.
To exit safe mode of Firefox, simply close Firefox and wait a few seconds before you open Firefox for normal use again.
If these icons are still there on your address in safe mode bar, please provide us with a screenshot. If you need help to create a screenshot, please see How to make a screenshot of my problem?
Once you have done so, attach the file to screen shot saved to your post on the forum by clicking on the button Browse... under the box to post your reply . This will help us to visualize the problem.
Thank you!

My address bar has changed color in itself
I use the default theme in Mozilla and today the address bar has changed color from clear blue to windows blue, and the arrows and the "home" button are white instead of black. Since I haven't done anything intentionally and don't want it to appear like that, how can I reverse it? Curiously, the address bar when 'Help' is opened seems the usual way.
Hi Jscher,
Thank you for taking the time to look at my question. I managed to me after a little sorting (Finally, a little) tweaking autour. It seems that I unchecked the "always show the bar of tabs" under Options/tabs and made the section of bar any transparent address as the windows and buttons next to him white instead of black. After I checked it again, everything is back to normal.

The address bar has disappeared from the top of any tab, I opened, so there is nowhere to enter a web address. Could I have accidentally made it happen? How can I get that back?
Just to be clear, it is not on the tab bar is? (It's the new style in Firefox 4 and 5).
To show or hide the toolbars, you can use the old view menu.
If you have the orange Firefox button, press the Alt key to temporarily show the classic menu bar.
Menu view > toolbars > check the Navigation bar
If you view the navigation toolbar, but it is incomplete or damaged, you can reset your toolbars.
Menu view > toolbars > customize
In the great dialog box with the icons, to the bottom, click on restore by default.
Does this help?

I have never seen anything like this before and can't find a solution in support or in a general Google search.
We have a user who has an address bar has filed with the static icons in Firefox (there's a screenshot if there is no way to predict that). If the user clicks on them, they aren't going anywhere (they shouldn't be here anyway, no?). This user is unable to type in the address bar, either. Not sure if there was an auto-update to version 29 of the next day or not, but Firefox has been uninstalled a sweet version of installed 29 - reasoning that he could be an installation problem. The question remains. This user is not having the same problem with Chrome. Have not tried to breed with another browser on that machine. Have not heard complaints from other users in the Office using version 29.
Is there a setting being ignored with version 29? Is this a bug? Should we try to install version 28 and see if it's a question of versioning, or maybe something else? Try to eliminate possible problems and move to the next set of solutions.
Thank you

You can check the view > status bar [X]

Since the update to 28.0 typing too many address in the address bar has no effect.
Updated to 28.0 31/03/2014. Nothing happens when I have too much to type the address in the address bar and press ENTER. Cannot access that tied to the breast of the web pages or emails, or addresses marked with a bookmark.
First check your Firefox search bar works well and that it is set to a reasonable option. Many users probably doesn't realize that search bar search engine is used for all searches from Firefox now, including the search from the address bar.
Of course, this does not affect anyone with Firefox 28. It's actually a rare problem, and I don't know what is the cause. All I can do is suggest a process of elimination.
If the problem is that after the update it must still be another factor involved.
No antimalware product is perfect. It is always worth trying to sweeps multiples and up-to-date anti-malware tools.
Try test following a process of elimination (probably the best in this order and check after each step)

the address bar of Firefox 40 will not act on the entered text.
I can only access different websites using bookmarks. Although the address bar shows the current site accurately, you can enter the new text in the address bar and pressing Enter has no effect. Nothing happens. How can I fix?
Try Firefox Safe mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe mode is a troubleshooting mode that temporarily disables hardware acceleration, restores some settings and disables add-ons (extensions and themes).
If Firefox is open, you can restart Firefox Safe mode in the Help menu:
- Click the menu button
click Help
then select restart with disabled modules.
If Firefox does not work, you can start Firefox in Mode safe as follows:
- On Windows: Hold down the SHIFT key when you open the desktop Firefox or shortcut in the start menu.
- On Mac: Hold the option key during the startup of Firefox.
- On Linux: Exit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox-safe-mode
(you may need to specify the installation path of Firefox for example/usr/lib/firefox)
When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "start mode safe."
If the problem is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, theme or hardware acceleration. Please follow the steps described in the section Troubleshooting extensions, themes and problems of hardware acceleration to resolve common Firefox problems to find the cause.
To exit safe mode of Firefox, simply close Firefox and wait a few seconds before you open Firefox for normal use again.
When find you what is causing your problems, please let us know. This might help others with the same problem.

OK, I ask once again. In the address bar, when I hit the pull down arrow to display the list of the sites that I visit frequently, usually, I click on the place where I want to go... to tell espn.com, lately, when I click on espn.com or one of the other sites listed, nothing happens, its stays on google, my homepage. Pls help
Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/tools > Modules > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is the cause of the problem.
- Put yourself in the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/tools > Modules > appearance
- Do NOT click on the reset button on the startup window Mode safe
