Why some of my icons to the taskbar sometimes fail to load at startup?

Can anyone suggest why some of my icons on the taskbar often fail to load at startup.  I have Win7 set to display all icons (IE do not hide)

Thank you very much

Hi Mike,.

Here is a checklist that you can go through potentially solve your problem. When you have gone through the list, re - start of course to see if the icons will load at startup after you perform these steps:

(A) uncheck "Auto-hide the taskbar", as appropriate:

.. Right-click on the taskbar, select properties and find 'Auto-hide the taskbar' tab taskbar

(B) turn off the composition of the Bureau:

1. right click on computer > properties

2 advanced System Settings

3. in the course of execution, click settings

4. check (enable) or uncheck the Enable (disable) the Composition of the Bureau

5. apply

Updated C) drivers:

Maybe it's the drivers for your hardware components that need to be updated.  Although Windows 7 tries to install drivers for as much as possible, the drivers - who often change - may not be the latest film from the manufacturer's Web site.

You can check the latest updates of Windows and install the latest drivers available. To do this, follow these steps:

1. click on start, all programs and then Windows Update.

2. click on search for updates on the left of the screen.

3. If updates are available, go ahead and install them.

You can also check for the drivers from Device Manager.

1. open Device Manager by clicking the Start button, click on the Control Panel, clicking system and Maintenance, and then clicking Device Manager. ?

If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

2 search for graphics cards and expand it. Now, right-click on it and select Properties.

3. click Driver tab and click Update driver. Windows will now try to find the latest drivers for the graphics card.

4 restart the computer after installation and verification.

You can also follow this link to update the drivers:

http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/update-a-driver-for-hardware-that-isn ' t-work correctly

In addition, go to the website of your computer manufacturer and check if the latest driver updates are available.

(D) close all programs in the Notification area:

Try closing all programs that are running in the area of Notification and control for the issue. See the link below.

  • Unity Mode - icons in the taskbar on the host do not work as expected for some applications

In Unity mode, the icons in the taskbar on the host computer do not work as expected for some applications. The following problems may occur:

    1. several icons for a single application.

2 aero Peek does not work if the application is reduced.

3 icon moves to the end of the task bar after restoration of the collapsed state.

These problems make it difficult to work in Unity mode. Here are some details about my setup:

VMware Workstations Version: 7.0.1 build 227600

Host: Windows 7 64-bit (all updates applied)

Client: Windows XP (all updates applied)

Steps on how to reproduce the issue n ° 1:

    1. start the mode of the unit for Windows XP clients.

    2. launch Visual Studio 2003 on the start menu of the unit.

    3. minimize and optimize Visual Studio 2003. Finally, you should see several icons, each with a different air look.

When this happens, you can maximize is more than a simple click (as there are a stacked icons). Sometimes, only one of the icons to display Visual Studio 2003 (when testing this now, the other icon displays a portion of the Office of comments). If multiple copies of Visual Studio 2003 are launched, it is difficult to know who is who.

    Procedure reproduce problem 2:

    1. start the mode of the unit for Windows XP clients.

    2. launch Visual Studio 2003 on the start menu of the unit.

    3 minimize Visual Studio 2003.

    4. place the cursor on the icon. You should see the icon in Aero Peek (similar to the Aero Peek look when you use Microsoft Windows XP Mode).

Aero Peek works great for other applications reduced, such as Windows Explorer.

Steps on how to reproduce the issue n ° 3:

    1. start the mode of the unit for Windows XP clients.

    2. launch Visual Studio 2003 on the start menu of the unit.

    3. start Windows Explorer in the start menu of the unit.

4 to minimize Visual Studio 2003.

5 optimize Visual Studio 2003. The icon disappears briefly and then displayed in a different location (to the right of the icon in Windows Explorer).

I guess that these issues will eventually with the similar Microsoft products such as SQL Server Management Studio, newer versions of Visual Studio, Microsoft Office (I guess just--I have not tried other programs).

These questions, it is very difficult to use Visual Studio 2003 in Unity Mode, which is the main application, I need to use the virtual machine. I would love to see these issue fixed.

    Kind regards

    Tim

Hi Tim, this behavior all boils down to the fact that when you reduce the VS, is not to minimize as windows normally do. VS hides the main window, and then returns to the window in the reduced state.  When the host sees the window becomes hidden, she removes the button from the taskbar to the window of the unit; There is no way of knowing that the window will be re-shown again later.  The thumbnail Aero does not work for the reduced window because the host never saw this window in its normal state, so that the host knows not what are the contents of the window.

The good news is that you can work around the button behavior of taskbar in Workstation 7.1 by pinning the window VS. In this way, the taskbar button will always be there no matter how many times the window of the unit is shown/hidden. It will not solve the problem of thumb nail, however.

  • 10.0 Firefox now creates a new icon on the taskbar of Windows 7 whn launched. Why?

With earlier versions of Firefox on Windows 7, I got 1 icon on the task bar and I would stay at this icon to go to the program. Now, at the launch of Firefox, that it creates an icon on the taskbar and it is confusing, because I'm used to return to the original icon, except that now it opens a new session of Firefox that I don't want. How to return to 1 icon?

After clicking on the favorite taskbar icon and firefox opens a "new Session".
DETACH the old icon and the PIN, then the "New Session" icon.

Then from this point on 1 single icon will appear in the taskbar.

  • How can I add the weather icon to the taskbar to be next to the time?

Try as I might, I can't figure this out.  I would like to add the weather icon to the taskbar.  I want it to be next to the time, so it is always displayed.  How can I do this?  I also want to remove some of the icons that appear in the part of the notification of the taskbar.  Yet once, I can't do it.

To add items to the taskbar in Windows XP, do one click right, choose Properties, select "Show quick launch", then OK. Now you can add existing shortcuts to the quick launch area (which is pretty much a location allows you to customize your own shortcuts), or you can right click on the quick launch are to open its 'file', then create new shortcuts to here (right click-> new-> shortcut).

To remove the part of the taskbar notification icons: If you are indeed referring to the notification area near the clock, try right-clicking on the icon and look for an option to delete/remove/disable. Not all icons will have such an option. Additional details on the notification in Windows XP bar can be found here. If you are actually referring to quick launch (next), and then activate it as I've described in the paragraph above, then you should be able with the right button and then remove them.

  • When I start the computer, sometimes the icon in the taskbar indicates that it is connected to a network that is not identified. I wait a few minutes until what he says at last he is identified & seems to work very well.

    Original title: Internet wireless connection

I use a PC & a cable modem wireless to connect to the Internet.  When I start the computer, sometimes the icon in the taskbar indicates that it is connected to a network that is not identified.  I wait a few minutes until what he says at last he is identified & seems to work very well.  The only other issue I see is once in a while after it is connected, I noticed that it is to identify the network connection, but I see no problem to surf the web.  This could be a looming problem with the modem, or is it something else?  Should I consider it as my modem is still under warranty?  ARRIS / Motorola wants to charge a diagnostic fee is why I write on this forum first.

    Hello

    Run the sfc/scannow command.

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929833

Use the (SFC.exe) System File Checker tool to determine which file is causing the problem and then replace the file. To do this, follow these steps:

    1. Open an elevated command prompt. To do this, click Start, click principally madeprograms,Accessories, right-clickguest, and then clickrun as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password, or clickallow.
    2. Type the following command and press ENTER:
      sfc/scannow

The sfc/scannow command analyzes all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with appropriate Microsoft versions

If SFC cannot repair it, you can borrow a Microsoft dvd vista not an acer, HP etc. recovery disk and do a repair installation

read the below tutorial on how to perform a repair installation

    http://www.Vistax64.com/tutorials/88236-repair-install-Vista.html

or try a restore of the system before this happened

    http://www.windowsvistauserguide.com/system_restore.htm

If necessary do in safe mode

    Windows Vista

    Using the F8 method:

    1. Restart your computer.
    2. When the computer starts, you will see your computer hardware are listed. When you see this information begins to tap theF8 key repeatedly until you are presented with theBoot Options Advanced Windows Vista.
    3. Select the Safe Mode option with the arrow keys.
    4. Then press enter on your keyboard to start mode without failure of Vista.
    5. To start Windows, you'll be a typical logon screen. Connect to your computer and Vista goes into safe mode.
    6. Do whatever tasks you need and when you are done, reboot to return to normal mode.

  • How can I restore my desktop icons and the taskbar icons

I tried to open a file with a program's .lnk and her was not recognized in the program, and now my desktop icons and my icons to the taskbar was converted into icons for the program. How to get this back? I need to know how to do this in Windows 7.

    [Moved from comments]

There are some patches for the issue that you siding, but most of them requires registry changes that I do not say that they can cause several other problems. I recommend that you perform a system restore.

There are two ways to perform the system restore:

Menu start open, click Run and type cmd to open the command prompt.

Type CD... to book only c:\.

Type windows CD then CD System32, and then restore.

    After once, you'll find yourself in c:\ windows\system32\restore >

    Type restrui.exe press ENTER.

Once the system restore the open window then click on next to select any available restore point.

This process takes a few minutes to do the restore and please make sure that once this process has begun there wont be reversible and or you will lose all personal data.

Another way to perform the system restore is to open the safe mode by clicking on F8 at startup and check the option of safe mode, then still a dialog box opens to ask the system restore and then follow the steps above.

  • Can you reduce the icons to the taskbar in Windows 7?

I install my programs preferred on a new computer, put it on the taskbar, and it's fill to the top.

I want to make each smaller icon/tile - that is to say, each a little more thin.  In terms of width, it seems that the icon itself occupies about half the space.  I would like to get rid of some of the lost space.

    I already use small icons.

You can use smaller icons. The taskbar right click and choose Properties. Put a check mark in the box next to small icons.

  • Use F'fox on Windows 7, when I have several windows open, why the relative location of these windows in the taskbar sometimes change?

In general, I have three windows open Firefox, each with several tabs. Firefox itself is pinned to the Windows taskbar. Some of the tabs are set to reload.

The behavior that I find strange is that the window that initially had the means of the taskbar sometimes migrating to the first position. This behavior can be controlled, or the less predicts?

    Hi Avocet,
I guess this change because it's the last window to load a new page or which has been highlighted. If this happens on one of the tabs autoload, that might explain it.

After the 4.0.1 update, Windows now creates a new icon in the taskbar instead of activate one who is already pinned there. This does not happen on other computers I've used.

Hi, a bit of googling solved the problem, this article eplains,

  • Its icon on the taskbar is not displayed

    Hello!

Just today my laptop does not show an icon on the taskbar sound as it usually does. If you see in the right corner it usually an icon of the right? but mine is gone?
Can you help me how to get it back?

    Thank you

    Hey,.

You can still hear sound on speakers? If so the only problem could be the disabled sound icon in the taskbar. Therefore, go to control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Notification icons of the region. Make sure that the volume icon is not disabled and it will always be displayed in the taskbar.

If you can t hear you should check the Device Manager. The sound card is listed in the Device Manager?
If this isn't the case, you must reinstall the audio driver no doubt. You can download the driver from his most recent official website of Toshiba:
