Why VMware WS 9 does not save its information in "~/vmware" with 12.04.1 Ubuntu 64-bit.
Hi all
Thanks in advance for your time to help.
I just bought the upgrade of VMware 9 for use with Ubuntu 12.04.1 64-bit.
The installation was smooth and I created 2 virtual machines (Ubuntu 10.04.4 64-bit) and Windows 7 64-bit and installed the VMware tools on both of them.
But whenever I run VMware Workstation, I have a panel of the dialog box to accept the end user agreement!
In addition, every time I want to start one of these 2 VM, VMware says: ' VMware Workstation should store user preferences and other information contained in the directory "~/.vmware".» You want to continue although VMware Workstation could not create this directory? ".
Just after this first message, VMware said " install the VMware tools inside this virtual machine package. The repressive operations prompt starts, then select VM > install VMware Tools... and follow the instructions. "
What is the problem and why VMware is unable to create its own "~/.vmware" directory and store its own information, like the fact that I have already installed the famous VMware Tools inside of my 2 VMs or already accepted the end-user agreement package?
Any help would be greatly appreciated because the use of VMware Worksation as it's really boring.
See you soon.
PS: I did not have this problem with previous versions, 7 and 8 of VMware Workstation!
Try
CD/home/Dumby
mkdir .vmware

Why vmware workstation does not mask the cpuid SYSCALL/SYSRET little?
I am running VMware workstation 11.1.3 on linux. In my client operating system 64-bit, I notice that cpuid for eax = 0 x 8000001 returns a value edx masks who has always little 11. It's the bit SYSCALL/SYSRET ability.
Here is the part of the vmware.log file shows the parameters of my hostCPUID:
2016 02-03 T 15: 59:19.629 - 08:00 | VMX | I120: hostCPUID level 80000001, 0: 0x00000000 0x00000000 0 x 00000021 0x2c100800
As you can see, edx is 0x2c100800, which means that my system is capable of SYSCALL/SYSRET.
I tried to add the following to my vmx file:
monitor_control.enable_fullcpuid = 'TRUE '.
CPUID.80000001.EDX = '-:-:-:-:-: 1 -: -: - ".
Unfortunately, even with these settings, my diary of vmware shows no entry in the section 'Differences CPUID of hostCPUID' to cpuid.80000001.
As a test, I tried to change bit 10 instead of 11 to cpuid.80000001.edx bits and the difference that presented themselves. So what is the 11 bit characteristic, and why is he always have hidden inside the virtual machine no matter what I do?
Thank you.
You check what code 64-bit or 32-bit code in compatibility mode? Mode 32 bits (legacy and compatibility), only AMD processors set this bit.

Why VMWare is not to update their training materials?
Hello
I noticed that VMWare training materials do not conform to the version of vSphere product lates, but reviews are on the latest vSphere product!
I attend new courses, upgrade to VCP4 VCP3. While I'm looking and reading, I saw most of the blogers and in the VMWare community, they recommend to prepare for the exam with the final documentation produced...
So, if the review is based on the latest version of the product, why the Materils training always focus on version 4.0? Should not be the latest version. !!
Thank you
S.Hussain
As I said, it is normally "latest version as the course is released", to give you a few examples, What's New is based on 4.0, Performance management and troubleshooting based on the 4.0 Update 1, install configure manage comes from the 4.1.

Why VMware Player is not using AMD - V?
I have the latest version of VMware Player (3.1.2 build-301548) and an AMD Athlon 64 X 2 Dual-Core Windsor (AMD - V compatible and active) and Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit but VMware repeat myself that "this host does not support all hardware virtualization".
Someone knows why?
Thank you very much.
Aedan says:
So, my CPU is defective?
Essentially. There are some situations in which the first generation of AMD - V hardware is insufficient to completely accurate virtualization.
It of bad, but can't I "force" VMware to use AMD - V still?
You can not force VMware to use AMD - V. Support for AMD - V on these chips fell. You can use VMware Player 2.0, if you want to support AMD - V for your CPU, but I don't know why you would want it. Without material assistance to MMU virtualization, AMD - V does not generally offer benefits of performance over binary translation. See article ASPLOS for some comparisons.

Why vmware fusion "plotters" at night?
Hello
Just found that my Windows 7 VMWare Fusion instance was suspended when I woke up. Is there a way I can check why he would have auto-suspendu?
This never happened to my instance of XP as I remember.
Thank you
If you want to stop the suspension of the machine, open the Start Menu and type "power options" or go to control panel > Power Options. On the task list on the left side of the Power Options window, one of the tasks must be "choose when the computer goes to sleep. You can set it to never.

Agent licenses VC - why Vmware only want our money?
I have a strange question:
-We have VMware ESX-es (ESX, ESXi, incorporated ESXi) some for free, some coming with DELL on flash,.
3 installed as a foundation of Vmware.
-We have VMware VC put Center to level toward the comprehensive Center (sales we sent a file, we applied and now have full VC) and 6 license agents.
Now, we are looking for a way to add licenses more agent so we can monitor all our free and embedded ESXi-s and ideally to monitor our 2 Server2.
Problem is that it is, hmm, impossible. I can't believe, but Vmware sell VC agent licenses and do not sell licenses to add value to their products free.
I don't need to licensing additional infrastructure VI - I already run VC and do not need more.
I don't need starter packs - I already had one, and now I run.
I just want to pay a reasonable amount of money, $100 - $300 per server and add the server in VC. I want to be able to pay a reasonable amount of money and add little in VMotion and HA. I want to pay a reasonable amount of money and add the backup when I need (no need to the IRB because I have NetApp and backup just snapshots NFS).
So, we are ready to buy. Buy license agent single host license HA of single host, single host... But we are not willing to pay for the things that we do not have (infrastructure VI) we already have.
So, how can it be? How Vmware is making money, if you can't even pay for the existing productis you need (no technical limitation)? How can I add agent licenses so that I can manage our systems 10-15 Vmware (ESX * and server *) but still have systems themselves on the permitted range of drive (we cannot risk with the centrallized license server, no way!).
(What is interesting - if we can't pay, we just go around and reconnect VC to the ESX-are different to the need, one at a time.) But this means that VMware, Yes, never got our money. They have a great product, one of the best in the world. And they have a very poor sales, the worst in the world).
Why I can't find something like this:
-upgrade center foundation VI in the center of VC data center - $$$
-1 additional agent license - $$$
-1 additional license for the Server2 - $$$
-10 licenses pack for the VC - $$$
-ESXi integrated fully licensed (backup, vmotion, etc.) - on the site of Dell - $$$
I missed something on their site?
(You can buy DELL ESXi, only $99.) But it is very difficult to know about DELL, and it is not easy to start. And Amadou add a bit of $$ and connect it to the VC & lt; unless you're still inside the licenses of initial VC.).
Virtual infrastructure licenses and licenses for Virtual Center are two different things.
Virtual Center license lets you run Virtual Center.
Virtual INfrastructure license, allows to manage the ESX (i) server through your VC.
The type of license VI (Starter/standard/enterprise) will define the options that you can use.
You can register each host separately, but some options require a central license server.
The $99 Dell ESXi, that's what they ask for a USB stick theyput ESXi on (which is pretty easy to do it yourself for much cheaper), what you pay extra to be able to manage that ESXi with VC, is actually a license VI.

Is why VMWare Workstation v8.0, failure to launch a hard 52 GB file, stored on a Western Digital 4 TB big, MyBookLiveDuo external hard drive, model 2713D?
The error message indicates that "the file is too large! However, the application runs perfectly, if the hard same52 GB file, is stored on the disk D: from the host machine! (The host operating system is MS Windows 7 Enterprise). Thank you!
The double disks have been formatted by Western Digital, (However, the format is NOT specified by WD). I guess that the format is NTFS.
Not sure why you assume that NTFS because it is not a Microsoft device. NTFS is a file system developed by Microsoft and as such WDC perhaps owner to have a license to distribute a device formatted in NTFS and that would probably increase the cost of the device. Anyway, WDC uses a free Open Source Linux OS to control the "Personal Cloud Storage" device and there format ext4.
Please note that the application works perfectly fine, if the same hard 52 GB file, is stored on the disk D: from the host machine!
I will not use a VHD of monolithic, when running on the network and use a split disc. I would also consider using a prealloue disc split if it was reasonable in size compared to the size of its content. It will be much better if you are using Snapshots and or repair disk if necessary, and when run through a network expect to have a disk problem. Besides that if she doesn't have the "Personal Cloud Storage" device at this size and be a monolithic virtual hard drive then you really don't have much choice only to convert a disk of split!

Why VMWare ESXi 5 slow down access to IBM M1015 / LSI 9240-8i RAID?
I build servers for virtualization and wanted to go with VMWare ESXi 5. I configured RAID10 on 4 discs attached to the IBM M1015 internal RAID controller (similar to LSI 9240-8i) and installed ESXi without any problem. Only problem is that copying data to the data store (on the RAID array) on the host is slow - about 20 MB/s. And I get about the same speed when you try to copy data to a shared folder on the guest virtual machine. The host network is auto-négociée with switch 1000Mbit 1000Full and I used vmxnet3 vm card in the guest computer.
When I install MS Hyper-V on the same exact server with the exact same table RAID10 I get around 110 MB/s speed to copy data to the Hyper-V host.
I used the latest drivers available for each system:
ESXi 5 - LSI_5_34-455140.zip\scsi-megaraid-sas-5.34-1vmw.500.0.0.406165.x86_64.vib
Windows - 5.2.112
I have even updated the firmware card 20.10.1 - 0077.
This card is entry level but recommended on different places for ESXi. What I am doing wrong? Am I missing something?
Thank you
As I mentioned earlier, ESXi does not have caching at the level of the BONE, unlike HyperV.

Fatal error VMware Workstation: (svga) Exception 0xc0000005 (access violation) - VMware keeps crashing and our controls engineer was not able to understand, can someone help to solve?
So I'm a summer at a paper factory and my boss, the engineer of controls has not been able to understand why VMware Workstation on a certain laptop hangs. I tried to create the log file I see posted the number of threads, but what I have is a compressed file which doesn't seem to have the info I've seen... or at least not in the same format. So I'm a complete newbie to VMware, and I searched the knowledge base and could not find any direct matches, at - it ready to help a newb? Really appreciate it and it would really help me as far as my training goes. TQ ahead!
Just in case where I did maybe right I have attached two support files that I created.
https://www.thebuddyforum.com/demonbuddy-Forum/65752-video-drivers-constantly-crashing-VMware-9.html
I noticed that many people have the same problem with my computer when their computer/laptop has an AMD/ATI video card. Here's all I did and I got now work stations facing up and running for a week without any apparent problem
1 back up your Virtual Machines a safe place and uninstall the workstation
2 uninstall the AMD/ATI drivers
3 reinstall the drivers
4 reinstall the workstation
5 follow the instructions below exactly to make a registry change
a. Open regedit.exe and backup the registry, if you don't know how just google it is incredibly easy to make and the instructions are abundant so I don't post them here.
b. open Notepad and enter the following text, make sure it is correct that the registry change can be risky, but if you enter the text exactly as it is below, you shouldn't have any problems because I have none. I take no responsibility if you have errors after this regedit so do at your own risk. Be sure and enter all the notebook INSTRUCTIONS below. DO NOT WRITE THE INSTRUCTIONS IN NOTEPAD IN YOUR NOTEPAD FILE. Everything below.
NOTEBOOK INSTRUCTIONS
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDrivers\DCI]
"Timeout" = dword:00000014
TdrDdiDelay "= dword:00000014".
"TdrDelay" = dword:00000014
"TdrLevel" = dword:000000
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDrivers]
TdrDdiDelay "= dword:00000014".
TdrDelay "= dword:00000014".
TdrLevel "= dword:000000".
END NOTEBOOK INSTRUCTIONS
c. then navigate to the file and click on Save AS, when you arrive at the location you want to save the file, click the type box and change text to all documents, and then name the file regardless of your choice and add the .reg at the end. Once you have saved the file to its location and double click it to open it, windows will ask if you want to merge with the registry click Yes, windows will be also alert you on editing the registry and if you don't know that you want to try it go ahead and do it. So far, it has worked great for me.
For more information about editing the registry, I used click here

Problems of VMware in Linux player graphics
Hey all.
Don't know if what it the area proper for this discussion but couldn't find better either.
I am trying to run vmware payer on a computer host Linux Mint. (Based on Ubuntu 13.10 Saucy).
When I create a new machine he complains about not 3d graphics and accelerator available.
"Hardware graphics acceleration is not available.
"No 3D support is available from the host"
I have the latest drivers Intel open source for my on-board graphics (sys Board H87M-HD3 with Intel graphics card) and Mesa installed for the open-gl, player does not seem to recognize this. Has anyone met and solved these problems.
Thank you
Rob.

Apparently, the Mesa DRI driver is blacklisted by the vmware.log...
Disabling the 3D on this host because of the presence of the Mesa DRI driver. Set mks.gl.allowBlacklistedDrivers = true to Overrides.
If you set the option indicated to substitute it. This option, mks.gl.allowBlacklistedDrivers = TRUE, probably should be set in the preferences file (/ home/rob/.vmware/preferences) but you can also try the virtual machine in the .vmx config file.
Post edited by: WoodyZ BTW I do not know why VMware has updated the index of Mesa drive and set the above option might have the potential to cause a kind of instability, so make sure that you are correctly saved and set the option and testing.

Full version of VMware?
Can someone tell me the difference (apart from size) between the "full" version of v6.0.2 softwareupdate website and the much smaller version offered on the normal download site?
Thank you
Chris
VMware-player-full - 6.0.2 - 1744117.exe.tar to softwareupdate does in fact contain the VMware Tools where the normal Download VMware-player - 6.0.2 - 1744117.exe does not work. BTW, I'm 100% sure!
Other versions for softwareupdate in the past usually didn't have VMware tools included in the base install, and I don't know why VMware chose to use the full installer to this place and not make it available to normal downloads. Given the number of users who have a problem with downloading VMware Tools through the user interface of VMware Player, you would think that VMware will offer both as they do with VMware Fusion.

Upgrade Windows 8.0 invited to 8.1 fails in VMware Workstation v10?
Hello.
Everyone knows about this problem? I tried two W8 (English and French) VM different images (1 GB RAM) and cannot be properly upgraded. Need me to:
(Picked in English) language selection screen.
Choose an option: 'Disorder (refresh or reset your PC or use advanced tools)' or 'turn on your PC.
What's wrong? I never had this problem on my real desktop PC.
Thank you in advance.
jmattson wrote:
This is probably the problem. 8.1 Windows no longer includes the SCSI card drivers. Upgrade your SCSI card virtual, and you should be good to go.
Modify the text in the configuration is considered to be an upgrade? Laughing out loud. I wonder why VMware never mentioned this when 8.1 is out.

Why limit the vRAM on a virtual machine?
It seems that vSphere5.0 supports 1 TB on the virtual machine's maximum vRAM by consulting the following Web site.
http://www.VMware.com/PDF/vsphere5/R50/vSphere-50-configuration-maximums.PDF
But from the following site (sorry, I just find Japanese site), it seems that a virtual machine just powered
and can only use the maximum memory of 96 GB of vRAM licensed pool.
http://www.VMware.com/files/JP/PDF/vsphere_pricing.PDF
I wonder why VMware have big memory limit that reaches up to 1 TB, even if a virtual machine of poweron can't
use 96 GB of vRAM pool? If I have configured the virtual machine with 1 TB vRAM and power on it, I wonder if the virtual
machine only can hired 96 GB due to the limit of pool of vRAM?
It seem confusing, I know, but it is a brief summary of the reality
Yes, you can have a maximum of 1 TB of ram in a virtual computer
96 GB of vRAM situation relates to the issuance of licenses. any virtual machine that has been configured with 96GB or higher will be only used 96 GB of vRAM for licensing purposes, this means that you don't have to buy 1 TB divided by 96 GB of vSphere license.
It said since the release of 5.1 vRAM requirement has been removed.

vCenter Server Appliance and VMware Tools update
I've just updated VCSA to 5.1.0.10000 build 1065184. I had to uninstall VMware Tools first because the update failed with
"VMware Tools can not install because it seems that another installation of.
VMware Tools is already present. Please remove the previous installation and
then try again to install this version of VMware Tools. »
error in /opt/vmware/var/log/vami/updatecli.log (I had a similar problem with the previous update).
After updating, I see in this newspaper:
