Width tool - hard edges or straight lines between points instead of curves (CS6 PC)

Hi people,

I wonder if it is possible to control the lines between points so that they are straight instead of curves. In other words, I'm curious if there is a method to create sharp corners or hard edges with the width tool, because it always seems all edges (see picture) of the curve

Width Tool Problem.PNG

Thanks in advance for your help.

srksphillips,

Everywhere where you wish to set/change the width, you need an anchor. I believe you can (guides are your friends):

(1) create an anchor Point at each location where you want to have a specific width, such as updates starts and ends of the thicker pieces, you probably already have.

(2) use the anchor Point add the tool on the thick side right next to each existing anchor (starting from 1)) and set the same width;

(3 use the direct Selection and ClickDrag the 2 anchor Point tool) to coincide with the anchor of 1).

And similarly for the part or parts thinner/more thin.

It is essentially the same way as when you create a gradient with stops, as a fill for two colors in an object.

  • Straight line between two polar points

    Hi all

I created a VI that could be traced a Polar curve according to time-distance formula. The VI has present Mag and target Mag. each with its own angle (Polar form that is (r, theta)). I want to draw a straight line from the current point to the target point. I used the time-distance formula to trace the scale and used the same slope to point the angle. However, I get a curved path as shown in the attachment.

Could someone tell me what formula can be used to draw a straight line from the current point to the target point?

    Thank you.

1 convert two polar points in rectangular coordinates.

    2. generate the points between the two.  You can use the function of ramp or some other methods to generate points.

3 convert points to polar coordinates and draw.  Nice straight line!

Of course, the question is why do you want a straight line when you use the polar coordinates?  He will not directly be r or theta.

    Hi Charles,

You can contact me through feedback in-app? (Press the logo to draw and give us your comments) I would like to get you set up with a pre-release version of the draw which I believe will solve the problem for you.

  • My pen tool will not draw straight lines

When I click on the tool pen cursor shows the pen tool with the 'x '.  When I click to create the first point, nothing happens.  If I click and drag it will create a point, but I don't want the curves.  I want a straight line.

Does anyone else have this problem?

    I'm on OSX Yosemite 10.10.3

The problem was the Google Chrome browser!  As soon as I left my pen tool Chrome has started working again.  Didn't even need to restart Fireworks.  I wonder if this is a conflict with one of my plugins/Add-ons.  More likely.

Updated - I reduce it to a specific to Google Chrome extension.  It was 'Google Play Music'

  • Pen tool create in Illustrator - white unwanted between point to point

I created a few thick curved lines with the pen tool.  But when I SAVE TO the WEB in PNG, it shows the "point to point" (beginning of line end of line) white and non-transparent like the rest of the background.  So, my logo has a lot of white space, I don't want.  It should be transparent.  What am I doing wrong?

  • Select new & mask tool - draw straight line with subtractive brush?

I have the selected brush, and he is set to subtract. I want to draw a straight line across topics I want to subtract. But I can't use shift to draw a straight line, as shift changes the subtractive brush in an addendum.

.. .this who am I missing?

I don't think you're missing something really, as you say press 'shift' to activate the version "+" of the Brush tool and so you will always get an addition to your selection if SHIFT-click between two points to give a straight line. If you really want to avoid using press SHIFT-click on the button 'invert' and then shift - click, when finished press "reverse" yet once and you should have what you want.

  • Shift-click to create straight lines with the Brush tool is no longer works in 2015 CC

    Hello!

I feel a maddening thing I can't explain, maybe a bug or a dark environment?

If I use the pencil tool, I can click on the same spot on the canvas, then releases, then hold SHIFT key and click in another location on the canvas to create a straight line between the two points. This is expected behavior, and Photoshop has done this for years, as long as I can remember.

Until recently, the same has worked with the Brush tool. Since the upgrade to 2015 CC, however, shift-click on demand exactly as if I was clicking simply - he draws another full brush, but without a straight line connecting the two clicks. Weird.

Everyone knows the same behavior? (CC and Yosemite are completely up to date.)

  • How can I draw a straight line with a brush?

I know that the pencil tool can draw a straight line with anchor points. Is there a setting for the pencil tool which can mimic a brush of 30 points, low hardness (from left to right) at an angle of 80 degrees, or is it possible to make a straight line with the Brush tool using a mouse?photoshop help.jpeg

I know that this picture is a little blurry. what I want to do is to replace the 2 lines of white angles with point 30 brush effect 230 pixels wide. the project on the left side of the photo is a canvas 4 ' 2 ft. any ideas? Help, please.

Straight lines are simple: the brush, click where you want the starting line (you will paint one place) then hold down the SHIFT key and click where you want the line to end. Photoshop will draw a straight line between your departure and arrival.

In addition, for even more control, you can use the pen tool to create a path, then just STROKE the path with the brush.

  • How to draw a straight line and write on areas colored with Photoshop?

I need to be able to draw a straight line and write about areas that I colored. I could do in PhotoStudio, but I don't know how to do in Photoshop.

Use layers.  Text for writing on areas layers.  They can be changed.  You can change the text, font, size, color, Position, fusion and opacity and a layer style can be added.

To draw the limes add a blank layer.  Select a brush and the color.  Left-click on one end of the line you want to draw. So without and the button to move the cursor to the other end of the line and press SHIFT + left.  Photoshop will draw the straight line between the two points that you clicked on.

  • Animate a straight line outward from its Center?

    Hello

I'm working on a logo for a trailer and you want to create a straight line (between two lines of text) that starts invisibly in the Middle then expands horizantally in both directions until the size of the line with the text above and below.

The video example closest I can find is in the trailer of The Thin Red Line (at 02:33), but I would like to know how to make the way that I described rather than the line simply from one side http://www.YouTube.com/watch?v=LCmlOhsIwBk

At this point I did a decent job by keyframing just across the line, but the downside of this is that the line will become visible as soon as it starts to expand and may not begin to see when it is about half size from

If anyone has any ideas on how I can accomplish this I would really appreciate to know how it can be done!

    Thank you very much...

  • "width tool" and brush strokes?

    Hello people,

I drew a line polymerized with the Brush tool in illustrator CS5, but when I select the "width" tool to change the width, it does not work.

    What Miss me?

    Here are my steps:

    1 Select Brush tool

    2. draw something

    3. Select the tool 'width '.

    4. try to change the width, but it won't work.

Given that I draw with the Brush tool, the "width" tool can be very handy if I can make it work.

    Thank you!

I guess you used a calligraphy brush. The width tool only works with nromal lines, artistic forms and brushes model.

  • Graph XY no lines, just Points?

    Hi all

I want to build a graph of pressure relative to the temperature.  It must be a standard XY graph, but I just want to see the scatter point without lines connecting the points.  Is it possible to eliminate the lines between points (or make them invisible)?

    Thank you!

You can do this in the properties of the graph. Right-click on the chart and select Properties. Go to the locations tab.  Select an icon for the point (something other than ) in the third column of icons. Then select the top of the list in the fourth column. It is the symbol with the track of the points, but no lines. This will give you what you want.

  • How to specify a length of straight line with the Brush tool

    Hello

I want to draw a few straight lines that have the same look as the paint brush tool. that is the ends of the lines have rounded ends.

The thing is, I want to be able to specify the length of these lines.

    (1) can I do this with the paint brush tool? So be specific with the length of the line, for example that I can specify in some fields or something like that?

    (2) otherwise, I use the online tool to look the same as a line of paint brush?

    David.

    Hi David.

    Option 2:

Select the line Segment tool (shortcut "------"). Click the origin. The dialog box should open. Specify the length. Apply a line with round cap. Adjust the width of the line and color to your liking.

    I hope this helps.

    Peace,

Hello, I am after a tutorial on Lynda.com, which demonstrates the use of the spot removal tool to remove a task from a straight line.  Click on one of the ends of the line, hold the SHIFT key and click on the other end of the line.  Pouf!  Nothing happens.  The technique works very well for me in Photoshop.

    The technique is

Hold the SHIFT key FIRST, then click and drag horizontal or vertical.
