Win 7 sleeps when it shouldn't

64 bit Win 7 Ultimate (clean, new HD, no update of WinVista)

Inspiron notebook to 64 bit; 8 GB RAM

Some balanced AC power options:

Brightness: 3 minutes

Turn off the display: 30 minutes

Put the computer to sleep: never

Am I missing something here?

Why the system goes into sleep mode at night?  I want that it upward all night for backups etc but I don't want it to go in mode 'sleep'.

TIA!

  • I can do: sleep when the lid is closed, EXCEPT when an external display is connected?

    Hello

Please let me know if this is possible. Seems to me like a current need, but I can't find a way to achieve this.

I wish that the laptop to sleep when I close the lid (battery / plugged - matter), except when I have a connected external display.

The script is very simple, I prefer to work with an external display, so I don't want or need the lid is open. When I'm on the road, the "sleep when the lid is closed" is a desired behavior.

    Is this possible?

    Thank you

    Roee.

    (1) this function is available in the Apple OS, but not in OS Win.

    (2) but, you can set a custom power plan to do this, so when you connect an external monitor just switch the power around plan. It is the easiest way to get what you want.

  • 700 - 060ea Office: stop the usb ports go to sleep when the rest of the PC

When I get my laptop connected via usb, the system constantly charge the phone when the pc is asleep. Have you tried to uncheck "allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" in the Control Panel/Device Manager/USB controllers/Properties tab, but the ports still off. I saw my present mobile on this hub have obtained the correct material. I would have preferred that the PC continues to sleep when it is inactive, but want the mobile to continue loading.

Should I change something in the BIOS maybe? If so, how can I access BIOS for this model?

    Thank you in advance.

    Hello @tomsy,

I read your post on how the USB ports on your computer constantly power when the rest of your system enters mode 'sleep', and you need to avoid this. I'd be happy to help you in this case!

In order to maintain your USB ports power while your computer sleeps, your office should be equipped with a High Powered USB port. It also allows to load when your office is completely turned off.

According to the Specifications of the product from your desktop, High Powered USB is not available on your system.

    I hope this helps!

  • Windows 8 do not sleep when I close the lid

I just got the Elitebook 850 G1 and I put all the parameters of sleep when I close the lid and wake up when I open it. I checked the two settings in windows and in the BIOS and it's all good, but when I do actually, he does not wake up but restarts the computer instead. So when I was away typing on Word, fortunately I constantly save it but it's not back to where I left off. I thought it was one of the graphic drivers first, because he has dual graphics, intel and ati. He had a few problems with the ATI card, but I think that I fixed it. I am running windows 8.1 Pro.

    What can I do else?

    Edit:

I tried changing the settings to hibernate instead, and what he gave me was a BSOD.  Video_dxgkrnl_fatal_error. I remember that what made the first time I tried to do it before when he was on the way 'sleep'. any suggestions?

is not serious, I fixed it. It turns out that the new graphics driver intel was the culprit. I had to revert to a previous version. works perfectly now

  • Windows 7 will not go to sleep when it's on battery

I recently replaced the laptop battery on my Acer 5517 inspire running windows 7. Battery power when I leave Internet race 11 explore (and maybe some other programs) the computer will not sleep after awhile... it remains right on until the battery runs out and is not yet put into hibernation when the critical battery level is reached. The computer works fine and will go to sleep after 30 minutes, when it is plugged in or when I have it on battery with any running application. This issue is frustrating because if I forgot to plug my computer and let a program run the next morning I need to restart windows and get the message that windows did not close properly. I am frustrated because the system hibernate properly when battery reaches a critical level in certain conditions that I mentioned, but when it's on battery and an application running that he do not hibernate when battery level critical is reached.

    Hi Cory,.

Sorry for the delay in response.

SCP may not sleep when you use internet via the network. Windows is not designed to do by default when you do a video or audio stream from the internet.

First, launch a command prompt window using the "Run as Administrator" option. (Search for "cmd", right click and select "run as administrator").

    Then run this command: powercfg-applications

What this will do, is tell you all the programs or devices that currently prevent the system from going into sleep mode. In cases, it reported that my audio device was causing the problem. The message was "an audio stream is being used."  This could be caused by something as simple as a web browsing with Flash content.  See screenshot...

So now that you know what prevents mode 'sleep', you ask the power management system to ignore this device and go ahead and enter the mode "Eve" anyway.  In my case, it was my audio card called "High definition Audio Device".  Yours will vary - it could talk about Creative Labs, SoundMax, RealTek, etc.. Or it could be any other device all together (network card, mouse, keyboard, etc.).  You need to specify exactly the same name in the following command.

For me, the command is: powercfg - REQUESTSOVERRIDE DRIVER "High definition Audio Device" SYSTEM

Now that I've told management system of power to ignore any audio stream opened by this device, he falls asleep without any problem.

I hope this helps. Let us know if you need help with Windows.
