Win XP Media Center SP3 won't install

I try to install SP3 on my laptop HP Pavilion Windows XP Media Center 2002 SP-2 running. I tried to use the automatic update and it failed several times. I removed my anti virus and tried again. No luck. I downloaded the SP3 and tried to install it in safe mode. He failed. Whenever he is in the final stage and then crashes. It does not provide an error message. I let it run all night but no progress, and then I have to close it with the Task Manager.

Any ideas?

Anpato,
Start by looking at this article: steps to take before installing XP SP3

If you can boot into Safe Mode with command prompt, or if you have a XP CD and you can boot into the Recovery Console, and then run the following command: Chkdsk/r

Then clean restart your PC and try to install it again.

  • LAN Connection stopped working on my computer running WIN XP MEDIA CENTER

My LAN connection stopped working on my WIN XP MEDIA CENTER-based computer. I have access to the internet with optimum online. I have a router connected to my cable modem (US Robotics) wireless and desktop with the functioning of the wired connection stopped. My wireless connection on my laptop works very well on the same network. I first stop the modem, router, computer and re started at all. Modem Router 1 2nd, then on computer. Usually works, but not this time. Contacted optimum online and went through some procedures to correct the problem. Open cmd prompt, ping tried only to get 3 of any answers and 1 reply. Tried ipconfg / renew, did not work.  Firewall had closed during all of this. Service representative from optimum online said that he could see my modem was working but something like a firewall was blocking my computer access. Tried ipconfig/all and gave him the ip address he asked which showed, 169.254.80.196, he said that address will not work and we continued trying to renew the ip address, and we could achieve.

Now I mention here that this problem occurred when I had a power surge while I was online. I rebooted and this is the problem that I was. I asked the rep optimal online what else could be the cause as a virus or damaged surge my LAN or OS and he said for me to try to get in touch with microsoft and perhapse they could help me more. I hope someone has an answer for me.

    Please... Help!

    Thank you

    Don Soutar

    Watch 169.254.x.x IP address only:

    • The connection to the LAN is configured to obtain an IP address automatically, and:
    • He cannot communicate with your router to get the address.

The surge may have damaged the computer's Ethernet card.  If so, replacing it with a new adapter will fix the problem.

  • Win XP Media Center Edition - (version 5.1) SP3 is altered in the Dimension E310

Huge problem. Many WIndows the missing files. Most of the functions/programs operate no or launch. System restore not working etc etc. I don't have the original OS installation disc, if any. But a couple of years Dell sold me a reinstallation DVD Win XP Media 2005 Version with Update Rollup 2. The drive says "already installed on your computer. I ordered thinking it would fix some problems with files at the time, but it never worked - saying that this is not the same version of XP on your PC. So I gave up - until today. I tried the DVD today and it seems that it might be able to install a complete (but older) edition of win xp on my machine. If I succeed at will I lose all my existing programs, documents etc. Thanks in advance...

The disc is the same as the original drive that would have supplied with your system.

The XP Media Centre edition DVD contains no Service Pack 3 as the media library, components of the Installer do not work if SP3 is slipstreamed.

Probably, you will get the error that your installation of XP is newer than the installation disc, if you try to use the installation disc fix.

You are the best to clean install (you will lose all the programs and files) and then install the stand-alone version of Service Pack 3 after Windows is installed.

  • Win 7 Media center must rebuild the library whenever he starts.

I have a frustrating problem with Media Center in Windows 7.  He is a dedicated Media PC that is used primarily for music.  Whenever I have run media center and select the music option, remember all the information of the library for each category.  Since it loads in album it takes 5 to 10 min. to get information (albums, works of art, etc.). Then when I go to the Genre, he goes through the same process.  This is repeated whenever I select a new category.

As long as the PC is on and information process was done once for each category, it works better.  Once the PC is turned off and restarted it must go through this process again.

I used Media Center in XP for years and once he has sought and collected built the library is easy to use.  When the PC is started again click MC select music and all loads of information in a few seconds.  It seems that MC in win 7 is a step backward, unless there is something I am doing wrong.

I downloaded the drivers for my sound card. display and motherboard.  All files are stored on the PC.  I had the problem on three separate PCs.  Although two of them, I went back to XP.  Before going back on the third, I want to see if there is something I can do wrong.

I suggest that you try to reset the media library of WMP. Note firstly reset the library will make you lose all play counts and ratings too. Then, follow these steps:

    -Restart the PC.
-Click Start, type services.msc in the search field and press ENTER. In Services, locate the Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service . If its status is started , double-click the service, and then click stop .
-Click Start, type %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft in the search field and press ENTER. This folder opens in Windows Explorer.
-In this folder, rename the folder Media Player as Old Media Player . If you do not see the folder, then it is probably hidden. Set Explorer to view the hidden files and folders and show protected system files.
-Launch WMP, your library will have been reset and will be rebuilt. Check if the problem persists. Tim Baets

  • where can I get a video decoder for win xp media center so I can pick up a signal from TV

I use to be able to pick up a signal from TV, but since a new reinstall of xp media center I can not get a signal - the message says that I need a video decoder, where can I get this article

    Hi davidwiddecombe,

A codec is a software to compress or decompress a digital media file, such as a song or a video. Windows Media Player and other programs use codecs to play and create digital media files.

A codec can consist of two components: an encoder and a decoder. The encoder performs the compression function (coding) and the decoder performs the decompression function (decoding). Some codecs include both components and some codecs only one of them.

Use your favorite search engine and browse for such a program which is used to.

  • Problem updating Win 7 Media Center Guide

I am in Columbus Ohio and WOW to my cable provider. Three days earlier, the guide for Media Center lists seem to be downloading but never done in Media Center.  Did someone else who have difficulties?

    Thank you.

I could solve the problem. As it turns out, when I reinstalled Media Center trying to solve another problem, I was aware that WOW had recently gone to all digital channels.  So when reinstalling, I chose digital channels only.  It turns out that the Rating Guide is for analog channels so no information guide had been captured.  I reinstalled media library again by selecting analog as well as digital channels and the guide is back.

    Thank you!

  • Windows Media Center 7 won't accept digital antenna installation.

Media Center will not allow the selection of digital for the installation of TV antenna now that I've upgraded to Windows 7. I tried both automatic and manual setting but it detects only an analog antenna that is incorrect. I'm in the United Kingdom and you want to use the DVB - T signals. How to solve this? Thank you

  • HP Media Center m8200n won't find card WinTv

OS Win 7 64 - bit, 8 GB of ram, nVidia 610 card with 2 GB of ram, 1800 WinTv card went out got another card and replaced by the Win TV 1850. Tried to install the driver disc supplied but the result is a message that says: there is no device found. What to do to fix this problem.

Update: it turns out that the slots on the motherboard was bad. Replace the motherboard with the same type and this has solved the problem with WinTV cards does not. Now don't seem to be able to get the IR receiver to work. I loaded the last disk and windows has always said that there is a problem with the drivers. Hauppauge contacted on the issue. I think that the receiver itself may be bad. Thanks for all the help that has been published. It help me to identify the problem.

Looks like maybe the slot of PCIx1 has failed and it could also be that the original card Win TV may not be gone, if the housing has failed.  Inspect the area around the slot to see if all observable bad connections exist. Also inspect the contact surface in the slot with a magnifying glass.  A problem like this is not unheard of but is rare.

  • If the Windows 8 Media Center key expires, or you can install it later on 31 January?

I got the Windows 8 Pro upgrade for several systems, but I only installed Win 8 on 1 System.  I do not plan on installing Windows 8 Pro on other systems for several months or more.

I got the keys to win 8 Media Center for all systems for which I bought a Windows 8 Pro upgrade. As I understand it, after the 31/01/13, I will not be able to use these Media Center keys for systems where I have not yet installed Win 8.  I strongly suspect that I can't.

Please tell me I'm wrong and I can use the keys after 1/31 or can I download Media Center before 1/31 and install it after that I installed Win 8 on a system.

Windows 8 key does not expire so you can install it at any time, but the free Media Center key expires. After 1/31, you will be able to buy the Media Center in the App store.
