I'm currently trying to install Windows 7 on my desktop running Vista.

Whenever I run the Setup it comes up with the following error: Windows could not retrieve information about the disks on this computer.
I already put the virtual disk on auto and rebooted several times. I get the same error.
Also, I tried to update my computer by using the windows update thinking that would help... Windows update decides to not work either! It comes up with the error: Windows Update cannot currently check the updates, because the service is not running. You may have to restart your computer.
gain, I restarted and it still does not work.
I am currently running Windows Vista 32 bit on my desk (I thank God for my laptop!).

  • "windows cannot find a driver" in the installation package?

We have a file server and print XP on our network that has a printer Series PCL LaserJet 3330 installed 5th (using the original installation CD and prints from the XP Server). While trying to install the printer on a remote computer, I downloaded the driver package Windows 7 64 bit for the printer on the computer remote and got the error: «Windows cannot find a driver...» "(I don't understand why the pilot was not as it should be in the installation package.) After getting this error - several times, including the re - download the package and re - try - I downloaded the XP Server installation package and I changed the printer driver it as a package to install downloaded for XP. We always get the same error. The installation of the printer worked fine before having to redo our BONES. Anyone know this problem and can help with this?

This issue is between 64 bit and 32 bit, and there is an easy solution. Once you get back to the way it was before you downloaded the 64-bit package that you go to the machine that you want to load the printer and the printer as a local printer using load say lpt1 port. Auto not detect or print a test page and just finished the installation. Now on the windows 7 computer to join devices and printers and right click on the printer icon and scroll the properties first and left click. Go to the ports, and then add the port and in the box that comes up to put in the name of printserver and the share name of the printer by using the syntax \\printserver\sharename how save and apply and this computer will now be able to print to the printer.

  • HP 15: cannot make an image of the system

I have a laptop HP 15. At 8.1 Windows installed 10 Windows, everything works fine until I try to create a system image. When I click to start it says create Windows 7 system image then fails to 97%. Two questions why Windows 7 and why failing.

    Thanks for any help.

I use imaging system Windows 10. Open Control Panel, under system & sercurity open backup and restore (this is where Windows 7 is mentioned for the first time), when it opens in the upper left corner you can create system images and a system repair disc. I've done both for Windows 8.1, I used this method with visited 7 & 8.1 without problems so far.

I ran test on all players and all is good.

Maybe I should explain why to use to create the system image in Windows. With HP Recovery, what is copied is disks and files to get Windows to start. With system image, that your hard drive internal all is copied, it is BONE, all drives, files, updates and any software that you have installed even saves bookmarks. If your internal hard drive fails, simply install your drive with the image of the system and you're ready to go back just like before. I used this method to get laptops in use in very short time.

I solved the problem of a backup with Macrium Reflect disk to clone my internal hard drive. It's ok but the Windows image is much easier to use, that's why I love it and recommend it to friends to use it. You do not need to be an expert, just a couple of clicks and windows does the rest.

Thanks for all the help and suggestions. I still want to resolve questions about the reasons Windows 7 instead of 8.1 and why keeps hanging.

Try installing Windows 7 from XP and keep having this error message before choosing my instalation method, Windows not able to retrieve information about the disks on this computer.

Because the migration from Windows XP to Windows 7 requires a clean install anyway, might as well you are backing up your important files and settings using Windows Easy Transfer and do a custom clean install by booting from the Windows 7 DVD.

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929135

Note: After troubleshooting, be sure to set the computer to start as usual as mentioned in step 7 in the above article.

You will need to disable automatic disk check, and then run the disk of the WINRE (Windows Recovery Environment) command prompt check and check if the c: drive error (there) get fixed.

You try to run the audit from WINRE for drive C: disk drive and if it helps. Here are the steps to open the command prompt in Windows RE:

    b. do one of the following:

    1. If your computer has a single operating system installed, press and hold the F8 key as your computer restarts. You need to press F8 before the Windows logo appears. If the Windows logo appears, you must try again by waiting until the Windows logon prompt appears, and then stop and restart your computer.

    2. If your computer has more than one operating system, use the arrow keys to select the operating system you want to repair, and then press and hold F8.

    c. on the Advanced Boot Options screen, use the arrow keys to select repair your computer and press ENTER. (If your computer is not listed as an option, then your computer doesn't understand no repair preinstalled recovery options, or your network administrator has disabled the.)

    d. Select a keyboard layout, and then click Next.

    e. in the System Recovery Options menu, click command prompt to open.

    f. Type "chkdsk/f" and enter.

    g. Type "chkdsk/r" entry.

Check if the HARD drive is encrypted or not if yes then decrypt and see if it works well or not.

This means that the hard drive of your HP system controller is not supported by Windows 7 with pilots from the box and you need specific drivers to install Windows 7 on it.  If HP does not have drivers on their website then you're probably not going to succeed.

    1. what operating system is installed on your computer?

    2. have there been recent changes to the computer before the show?

Please go ahead and follow the steps mentioned and later a update on the State of the question.

Method 1: Rof the United Nations [System File Checker] SFC scan on the computer that would be a search for system files corrupted on the computer and replace them.

For Windows 7 and Vista: http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929833

    For Windows XP: http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/310747

Method 2:  Also try to scan your computer for the Microsoft Security Scanner, which would help us to get rid of viruses, spyware and other malicious software.

The Microsoft Security Scanner is a downloadable security tool for free which allows analysis at the application and helps remove viruses, spyware and other malware. It works with your current antivirus software.

    http://www.Microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx

Note: The Microsoft Safety Scanner ends 10 days after being downloaded. To restart a scan with the latest definitions of anti-malware, download and run the Microsoft Safety Scanner again.

Note: The data files that are infected must be cleaned only by removing the file completely, which means that there is a risk of data loss.

Please follow these recommended steps and post if you still experience the problem.
