You have nothing to do but just to make sure that the windows firewall is running... Windows firewall is blocking incoming default ICMP echo...

You should create a rule to enable it if you want

  • Unknown problem caused media player to close and that to protect my Media Player Windows has disabled skins

    Original title: "skins".
I recently downloaded a lot of skins from the microsoft Web site, and it worked very well for about an hour. Then I saw a skin called 'come back' I don't not download but recalled seeing in my default skins that were already installed. I wanted to see what it was and when I did caused a problem which I can't specify because the notification window remained only until fairly long for me to see (in a nutshell) "unknown problem caused media player to close and to protect my Media Player Windows has disabled skins. Now, I spent over 3 hours to try each answer in the forums for this issue and not one worked for me. I am running Windows Vista Home Basic and I can't find a way to reactivate my skin so that I can use only skins working know is the company and changing the skin that caused the problem. I tried deleting and reinstalling all the skins again, but again does not help. I tried to do a right click on the skin to go to properties to activate as suggested in the forums, but when I right click on it nothing happens. So now I have like 20 downloaded skins but the only way that they work is if I download again and choose to view them, but if I try to change the playlist or switch to full mode then it goes to firm skin and I download it again to get the one I want. I am so frustrated with this problem which I think should be a very easy thing to fix, but nothing I try works. Please help me. Thanks for any help you may be able to provide.

  • ICMP Echo-> addictive Telnet?

During the preliminary test of an ACL I intend to implement on a small business network, I added the statement:

"refuse the ICMP messages to echo host 192.168.1.1 host 192.168.3.51 ' and found that he indeed killed my pulse, but I also found that my Telnet session fell too. I'm pretty new in the field of security, but maybe someone could find out if Telnet needs ICMP echo to function. I did research Telnet and there is information on an 'echo', but I think it's part of the Protocol Telnet and not echo ICMP message that I'm talking about. Any help would be great!

    Aaron

Telnet runs on the TCP protocol and deny the echo icmp message will not stop directly telnet. You demonstrate that telnet between the two hosts have worked before you changed the access list? And with the access list refuse telnet and icmp echo does not have you tested to find out if the elimination of the deny icmp echo allows telnet to work again?

Is it possible that the echo deny icmp message is the only statement in the access list? If Yes, then what must be clear is that access-group is used on an interface to apply an access list, but there is no statement in the traffic access list is permitted. But as soon as there is no instruction in the access list then implicitly deny anything at the bottom of the access list. So, if the access list was empty the telnet would work, but when you add the deny for icmp echo the implicit refusal would deny the telnet.

If none of the suggestions that I made solve you so I think we need some more information. Can you post the access list you use? And some information about your network topology?

  • I've been using Photoshop CS6 Student Edition on 2 laptops; updated Windows 8 to 10 Windows without disabling CS6 and installer says I already have 2 options and that you can not install

I bought Photoshop CS6 Student Edition through B & H in 2014 for two users, which I used in my 2 laptops and yesterday I have one of my laptops upgraded Windows 8 to 10 Windows without disabling the Photoshop CS6 Student Edition on it. Now, when to start the download of the software again in the same portable computer the installer says, I used 2 options and impossible to install any other software. What should I do to install the software again?

A Win10 update is SUPPOSED to maintain all existing software without having to reinstall... so exactly how did you install Win10?

I received a request to share Windows Media Player library. I'm not on a network. Is this some type of malware or something? How should I handle this? A month ago, I received a similar request for iTunes sharing Jeremy-PC. Help, please. My computer has been hacked?

You're invited because you are on a network, this is a security feature of Windows.

I assume that you have chosen the option to not share when asked?

You can safely share if you know who you are sharing with (if you know who is Jeremy-PC)

If you prefer not to share with who you can disable media sharing.

    To activate:

When you are connected to the internet, go to: Control Panel, network and sharing Center.

Expand the sharing of multimedia files, click on edit, if media sharing is currently disabled, there will be a popup.

If you check the share my media, then click OK, you get another popup.

Here you can highlight the computers on the network and allow or deny.

If you click settings, you can choose what you want to share.

    To turn off:

When you are connected to the internet, go to: Control Panel, network and sharing Center.

Develop sharing media files and click on change, if media sharing is currently on uncheck share my media to:

    Click on apply, OK

  • Windows Update disables competing anti-virus programs

I use Norton anti-virus for nearly a decade.  For this reason, I have not installed Windows Security, as it is in conflict.  I do every week a routine Windows Update.  Two nights ago, it looks like Windows Update automatically installed Windows security without my permission.  This has created a huge conflict with Norton anti-virus, various alerts of infection appeared and my network of connections have been disabled.  I had no choice but to do a system restore and disable Windows Update altogether.  I want to update Windows for occasional useful bugfixes, but cannot take the risk of extreme hassle of security of Windows being installed without my permission.  Any ideas?

So far, the system restore and the sweet Norton seems to have fixed.  But he was mean.

NOTE: If your computer came with a set of disks, there is a hidden partition restore (not to be confused with the restoration of the system) you would use to do the clean install (AKA a "destructive recovery").

After the new installation, you will have the equivalent of a "new computer" in order to take care of EVERYTHING on the next page before connecting the machine to the internet or one local network (i.e. other computers) AND BEFORE to plug in a flash, SD card, or any other external drive to the computer otherwise:

  • Update Windows KB915597 disabled my card (nVidia GeForce 9300GE) graphics

    Reposted
Hi, after updated windows updated 10/19/09 my graphics card has been disabled (nVidia GeForce 9300GE). I tried to activate the device, prompting the update driver, and the update failed to install the device became "not recognized".  I restored the system before the update and everything was ok until the PC has been stopped and restarted.  I have been through the process of restoring about 6 times, each time, try another way of preventing recurrence for example turn off the automatic updates, uninstall KB915597, etc., but nothing works. Is there a permanent solution to this mess?
PS my system is Vista on a 64-bit AMD Phenom X 4 processor.

    Hello, Mariel,.

There are several discussions on the issue-

Step 1: uninstall Internet Explorer 7 and check whether the problem is resolved.

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/927177/en-us

Step 2 : repair Internet Explorer 6 by using the System File Checker in Windows XP.

If you already have Windows XP Service Pack 2 installed, and you do not want to install Internet Explorer 8, you may be able to resolve problems with Internet Explorer 6 by running the System File Checker.

To run the System File Checker, follow these steps:

    1. Click Start, click Run type sfc/scannow, and then press ENTER.

2 follow the prompts throughout the System File Checker process.

    3. restart the computer when System File Checker process is complete.
